Het kasteel van Durbuy, plaatselijk bekend als Château de Durbuy, ligt in de gelijknamige stad, in de provincie Luxemburg in de regio Wallonië in België.
Volgens archieven werd op deze plek in 900 na Christus een eerste kasteel verwoest. Hoewel Durbuy al lang geleden menselijke bewoning heeft gekend, gaan archeologische vondsten in de stad terug tot de Gallo-Romeinse en zelfs de prehistorie.
In 1024 werd het landgoed overgedragen aan Henri I, door zijn moeder Regelinde. Henri bouwde hier vervolgens een kasteel voor zichzelf. Dat kasteel werd in 1156 door een brand verwoest. In 1199 ging het herbouwde kasteel via erfenis naar de Luxemburgse familie.
Het kasteel van Durbuy werd tijdens verschillende oorlogen verwoest door de Luikse bevolking; eerst in 1237 en opnieuw in 1317. Durbuy diende toen als de noordelijke verdediging van het hertogdom Luxemburg en verdedigde het vooral tegen de expansionistische doelstellingen van de stad Luik. In 1331 verleende Jan van Bohemen Durbuy stadsrechten. Hierdoor claimt Durbuy nu de titel van ‘kleinste stad ter wereld’.
In 1412 ging het kasteel van Durbuy over naar het Huis van Bourgondië. In. 1484 en 1492 werd het kasteel ingenomen en verwoest tijdens de burgeroorlog tussen Willem I de La Marck en het Prinsbisdom Luik.
Het kasteel van Durbuy werd in 1628 verworven door Anthony II Schetz, een militaire commandant in Spaanse dienst tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog. Via erfenis ging het naar de huidige graven van Ursel. In 1636 werd het kasteel tijdens gevechten opnieuw beschadigd. Tijdens de Veldtocht van Maastricht in 1676 werd het kasteel verwoest en uiteindelijk ontmanteld door Franse troepen. Pas in 1731 werd het kasteel opnieuw herbouwd door de toenmalige graaf van Ursel. Tussen 1880 en 1882 werd het kasteel gemoderniseerd en vergroot. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd het kasteel van Durbuy bezet door Duitse troepen en later door de Amerikanen die het gebruikten als militair hospitaal. Momenteel is Durbuy de privéwoning van de graaf van Ursel en kan daarom niet bezocht worden. Een leuk kasteeltje in een toeristisch, maar leuk stadje.

In 1024 the estate was yielded to Henri I, by his mother Regelinde. Henri then built himself a castle here. That castle was destroyed by a fire in 1156. In 1199 the rebuilt castle went to the Luxembourg family through inheritance.
Durbuy Castle was ravaged by the people from Liège during several wars; first in 1237 and again in 1317. Durbuy then served as the northern defense of the Duchy of Luxembourg and defended it especially against the expansionist aims of the city of Liège. In 1331, John of Bohemia granted Durbuy city rights. This now makes Durbuy claim the title of 'smallest city in the world'.
In 1412 Durbuy Castle passed to the House of Burgundy. In. 1484 and 1492 the castle was taken and razed during the civil war between William I de La Marck and the Prince-Bishopric of Liège.
Durbuy Castle was acquired, in 1628, by Anthony II Schetz, a military commander in Spanish service during the Eighty Years' War. Through inheritance it went to the present Counts of Ursel. In 1636 the castle was damaged again during fighting. During the Campaign of Maastricht in 1676 the castle was destroyed and finally dismantled by French troops.
Only in 1731 was the castle again rebuilt by the then Count of Ursel. Between 1880 and 1882 the castle was modernized and enlarged. During WW II Durbuy Castle was occupied by German forces and later by the Americans who used it as a military hospital.
At present Durbuy is the private habitation of the Count of Ursel and can therefore not be visited. A nice small castle in a touristic, but nice, little town.
