This is because the branches grow faster when the flowers are taken.

He explained that 1) you'll get a thicker trunk in about two years' time because all of these cuttings will fuse together; 2) twisting them is better because it ensures that the ones in the middle don't die (if you plant them straight, the roots of the ones in the middle won't have any place to spread out and will die) AND it could also create an interesting twisted trunk. 幹がくっつくより根がからまって取れなくなるでしょう。10年ぐらいすると幹も一体化するでしょう。
