And they made it all for an IMAX movie with a production budget of only $3.8 million ($6 million in total). Just shooting it was already more expensive than usual so they had to work with a miniscule budget.

Absolutely! doing the breakdowns is a lot of work too.

This is absolute world class CGI. And I've never seen a better design for a futuristic combat suit.

Hands-down, some of the best CG work in current movies (Hollywood, international, and beyond). The details & clarity of the crash landing is the best I’ve seen in film so far. 👍🏼 Props to the Russians on this beautiful work!!

You CGI animators of this age are true artists. Absolutely brilliant and amazing artwork at its finest..

This video should be titled: "A new level of CGI you'll never reach. And now go and make some cubes in Blender."

You totally cannot. Maybe make some of the assets, but just the full-scale simulation of the destruction? The procedural generation? The muscle simulation and rigging of the creatures? Nope. The fluid simulation in blender is fun but it's mickey mouse stuff compared to houdini. Cycles is super cool but it's still a decade behind arnold or vray. So, as it stands today blender cannot come close to this level. Let's hope someday, though.

@@Belfrahn What are you talking about ....this was made with Blender 2.4 a couple of years ago! But seriously what could you not do here in Blender!? This is a low poly scene and basic shapes with bump mapping all over. The smoke simulation can be done with fluid in combination with particle simulation and proper physics settings. Yes It may take a little time to tweak but absolutely doable in Blender 2.79.

So much detail that would be a passing glance...if that.....so many talented people that only get their name in the fleeting credits...these are the stars of the films. 🏆👍🏼😊

Marc’s Fx omg so true, who cares about the actors, the cig people are really putting in the hours, making more then 30-50% of the movies these days, society always cheapens the glory of true artists, eveone just wants artists to do their best work, for free and done yesterday.

This was honestly better than watching the actual movie (which I thouroughly enjoyed). Hats off to the VFX artists who created this work of art. You are the unsung heroes of the film industry.

I legitimately looked to this movie for something to draw. Those mechs are SO cool. I know the guy was definitely in a LOT OF PAIN as it literally stitched itself to his body, but man does it still look amazing to watch them move around at inhuman speeds.

1:47 This is so epic! Hyper-realistic physics and models..

Spectacular! I loved following the story while simultaneously receiving insight into the animation process. And very original aliens and ship. What a super experience! There are so few REALLY good ones out there. I have never seen any better than this, though. This was outstanding, so exciting!

Wow! The way the ship flies is mesmerizing.

You can't fool me, I know it was real.

I was thinking the same thing. The scenes where they tear away layers of CGI, or when they build the landscape, is a reverse-engineering of actual footage, made in an attempt to make everyone believe the real footage is fake!

I've found this on Netflix and immediatly remembered about this trailer, didn't believe my own eyes until I saw one of the alien exosuits on the movie and HAD to go back here.

I'm an animator... who animated those creatures, it must be a fucking alien, humans can't do that. It looks amazing, speed, body mechanic, balance, weight distribution, contact poses, anticipation... fucking hell...

I watched this movie twice and you make me to watch it again.... I think that we need to be open more to Russian and European cinema. Enough Hollywood..... At least European movie specially Russians have got concept and philosophy behind them while american movies are becoming for non-thinkers...

This was incredibly. Well made. Wow so many things in each scene.this needs to be a full two hour movie. The alien space craft was amazing.

Finally some fresh air. Instead of that endless parade of Apaches and Humvees, we get some Suchois and Kamovs. Good job. Next i wanna see a german Tornado ECR killing a SAM site while hugging the ground.

those parametric buildings are amazing how they can quickly generate hundreds of option to simulate a small detailed cities.
