This made me think of a child growing up with an imaginary friend. That imagination can help through tough or scary times. Sadly they eventually grow out of belief that they are real but the memories of that friend never go away.

I see it as a story of growing up. Leaving childhood to go and learn with a mentor and when that time was done, returning to the tribe with the skills needed to survive. As for in-world lore, seeing all the other stones in the water made me think that the mentor creature is created as part of the ritual. They are there to teach and help the child grow and learn. When they are successful (as shown with the fire) the time of mentorship is done and they must let go.

How so, isnt it the opposite, parents send their kids away to let another raise them far away and then they come bace when they learned all they need...? If not i didnt gey the story ... I didnt gey it anyways If this was a ritual, it means this happens with every generation, but the giant thing turned to stone when she left and tjere were only that one, i looked to see if any of the other stone columns looked like him,but no... Any ways if i get this right i still dont get the point of this....! Can anyone explain...?

I really liked this one. The metaphors to growing up are obvious, but the beauty in this short is all in the how the story was told. Having to earn it and learn so much, rather than just a straightforward defeat-the-monster, get-the-muguffin, is really where this short shines.

I don’t understand really the moral of this. The animation is good but really in reality no child would be happy to leave there parents knowing they may never see them again. And she basically grew up with the pastel Bigfoot so how is she so okay with leaving him forever? I’m sorry for any kind of criticism. It was still good tho!

  • @trashyfangirl2394

Not all animations have to have moral this one just shows a short story and the reason why she's okay with having to leave her guardian is the same way why when you grow old enough your okay when you have to leave your parents house as you grow up you got to be your own you can't always be with your parents/ Guardian and even though it will be a little sad when you leave you know you're destined to start the rest of your life with what you have learned from your parents/Guardians weather that being how to pay your taxes or how to start a fire

She obviously didn't know that was going to happen to the guardian. As for her not being ok leaving her parents. If it was the way of life? If every single kid (or a chosen few? To me it seemed maybe they were going to see if they had what it took to eventually be tribal elders) did the same, and the kid grew hearing nothing and knowing nothing else they'd be sad but fine with it

The most exclusive magical boarding school ever. One student per teacher and you don't have to deal with them during those messy "growing up" years. Plus, when the student graduates, the teacher turns to stone, so no pension to pay out.

when you tell a story without speech, you will need to make use of other ways to clarify what's going on to the viewer. In this film, things just sortof happen and you never find out why

This was so nice! I didn’t like how the arms and legs were quite inflated and that the characters moved a bit slowly but the inflated arms and legs go better with the clay like animation texture and the slow characters can always be improved on. The story was great as it showed the relationship grow between the creature and the girl and it made it quite (spolier alert) sad when at the end the creature turned to stone and the now big girl felt sad that she had to go and no body else could meet him. Overall I'd love to see more and have the meaning of the three rings explained to me!

Only 'you' can say when it is time to join the real world and go back. This is an amazing film about trials of growth each of us take, some of us accomplish more then others, while others stay in time a child within childish ways. Beautiful Film.

Some say parenting is the point of this movie, but isn't it the opposite, parents send their kids away to let another raise them far away and then they come bace when they learned all they need...?If not i didn't gey the story ...I didn't gey it anywaysIf this was a ritual, it means this happens with every generation, but the giant thing turned to stone when she left and tjere were only that one, i looked to see if any of the other stone columns looked like him, but no...Any ways if i get this right i still don't get the point of this....! Can anyone explain...?

  • @shaylee6881

FleurAdel maybe there's a giant creature for each child that ends up on the island. And each turns to stone as the child it took care of leaves. Maybe that's why there are so many stone columns of different shapes.

A wonderful little story that transports the spirit of something that we have almost completely lost in our Western culture. The initiation of childhood into youth! The child is sent out alone into nature to experience power, knowledge and strength for his future life. And nature, here as a living troll, is your teacher. Wonderful implementation of a life theme that concerns us all. What our society lacks are rituals that accompany our transitions from one stage of life to the next. Thank you, creators!
