Your grades from CGC strengthens my belief that CGC is very gracious with grades while CBCS is more strict. I've been loyal to CGC for decades when they started, but I divorced them to date CBCS.

I spotted FF 260 on the wall behind you in this video, also one of my favorite covers and story arcs. My SW 8 also came back as 9.4. My Nova 1 also came back as 9.6 and I was elated. SW 68 looks slightly crooked in the slab. My pristine copy of SSM 101 is going in on my next submission. Did I see you kiss the Inifinity Gauntlet 1? Geeze, Mike!😂

Congrats on the good cgc grades!! Spending the time pressing it before sending it makes a huge difference!!

Discovered your channel by accident but it's really grown on me! Love your positive attitude and seeing all the great books. Keep up the great work!

Great video! I think a series on “yard sales to CGC” is an excellent idea.

Pleased you got good grades, but the cynic in me wonders if this is how they lure people in. High grades for the first submission and as you said, can make it infectious. CGC have a new addict!

I liked seeing this. Only thing I would have liked added is the process you took to pack up the CGC shipment. Since it was your first submission, as I haven’t done one either, it would be interesting to know what you did.

Your reaction to the Spectacular Spider-Man was priceless. I have the exact same philosophy about slabbing books, once slabbed it's becomes a trophy, you can no longer interact with it. But this video what great and authentic. The Comic God were kind to you my friend! CONGRATS!

Need to try cgc. Submitted asm 300 with one color breaking spine tick ( need to hunt to find it) and a small color smug on the back and got a 7.5 from cbcs. First Nightwing came back worse than I sent it. Everyone told me they were too harsh and to resubmit/complain. But I had no pre pics. Just made me stop caring about slabs. Think they are kind of a con. However, just my dumb opinion and so happy to see your excitement!

My wife said it best. I'm not into grading books either But it changes a comic book to a piece of Art you can display and preserve. I gotta tell you I just recently traded some comics and when I pulled my comics out ( ungraded ) and set theme on my table I went to grab something out of my closet and my puppy German shepherd tore the top comic to shreds. It pains me to say it was Secret wars #1 and it Was beautiful. Totally my fault but had it been in a slab this would of Never happened. Nice books👍

I’m not big into grading comics so I probably wouldn’t send them in. But they might make for good video.

Yeah it’s great! The funny thing is I wouldn’t have done it without having a raw copy in reserve, but I’m very happy to have both a SW 8 to hang, and one to read.

This was fun to watch!

That was fun watching you uncover those! I feel the exact same way as you do. I would much rather have raw comics than graded, but there is something special about getting a box of great a comics back. And you hit the nail on the head, slabs turn them into wall posters. :-)

Wow, great submissions and great grades with awesome books. I sent my first batch out to CGC and got them back. It's like opening presents on Christmas day for us comic fans lol.

just want to say as of recent im glad i found this channel. Really fun and relatable content for people just trying to find books for good deals. Anyone can spend thousands of dollars on books but this style is more my alley. keep it going dude!

The grading companies for comics, cards, video games, etc. all strike me as being a bit unreliable in grading. They are incentivised and motivated to give higher grades in order to keep people sending items to them for grading.

Just got my newstand SW 8 9.4 back a few months ago. Sadly i didnt fast track and the label was announced after. They wouldnt let me add it to mine. Looks sick

Way to go! I had a really hard time deciding if I should go with the custom label on a SW8 I just sent in with some other books. Ultimately I went with all standard labels since it would have cost an extra $25 ($20 shipping + $5 custom label) for just the one… but after seeing yours I kind of regret that decision 😂

That was a super quick turnaround. I’m still waiting for a drop from 8/2021. I’ve found my own presser now so hopefully my next one (probably in the spring 2023) will have a quick turnaround.

Awesome books. Good grades lucky guy. If your Sylvers are worth it yeah I would get them graded. Especially if one out of the so many books you sent in can pay for two submissions if you sell one of the books. Have the hobby pay for itself and yes slabs are addictive I've only been back in for 2 or 3 months of comic book collecting and I have two free slabs that I won and two that I bought.

I discovered your channel and have really been loving it. Ironically I just made a comment on another channel about slabs and the whole money aspect of the hobby. I too have some graded books but I do try and avoid them. I noticed how another channel how I've seen his channel evolve over time and now it seems all he focuses on are spec videos and values and even seen him go from a raw collector and now his wall behind him is over 1/3 graded. I hope this doesn't happen here. I'm not cutting down ppl that do those types of collecting with slabbing and investment but that's not why I got into comics. I'm a reader and that's to me the real value of these books. I buy some virgin covers on modern books just for display now but they're usually damaged or I look for deals. Money was never the big draw or reason I started comics and to me if anything it was always a nice escape from the real world and real day to day issues we all have to deal with. I don't want money to poison my enjoyment of this hobby. It's so easy in today's world to let money find it's way into everything in our day to day lives and how it can rule over our happiness. I hope you stay a reader and maybe just do like you did with these and slab a better looking copy but always have a reader copy too. No matter what just keep enjoying this hobby and find enjoyment in whatever form that takes for you personally. Love your channel and hope it doesn't change too drastically but no hate if it does just offering my opinion.

Thanks for the comment! I don’t intend to stop being the Lunch Money kid I was in the 90s: dumpster diving for comics to read, that’s my favorite! I do have a few videos coming out where I buy some “big” books and discuss grading but I’m so out of my element I literally appeal to the viewers what to do lol! I figured it’s fun to mix it up now and then to bring in different viewers but I promise to always be a yard sale and flea market guy first, I love finding and reading comics too much to change. Promise me you’ll call me out if I ever do!

I actually see graded comics, not as posters, but his works of art that I collected and I know what the price is based on the grade. Insurance purposes wise I would say.

I accidentally skipped to 13:14 and I laughed at your reaction😂 that was amazing. That’s how I felt when I got a 7.5 on my asm#300 that I thought was going to be in the 5.0 range

Yeah I think I mixed up my grader notes too, so I was doubly unprepared for that grade. Upon further review I think that’s actually pretty spot on. The Nova on the other hand… no way that’s a 9.6

@@lunchmoneycomics I’m so happy your first submission went well😆 Their grading is inconsistent, my first submission I sent in a vengeance of bane #1 that I’m looking at right now, is in perfect condition even in the case and somehow got a 9.2 with no graders notes. No one can find anything wrong with it. Other books I have in a 9.8 don’t look as good. My second submission I had just gotten back a few weeks ago was that 7.5 asm #300 which I’m very Happy about

Yea that's exactly why we shouldn't be valuing these books because of grading(thats gunna get some blow back for sure haha) ...it's 100% subjective...sure they have parameters, but it's up to the spacific grader and how they inturpitat said parameters...I've gotten two books back that I wouldn't be comfortable selling as what they graded them at ..two books one was a 9.6 the other a 9.4 and to me they were maybe 8.0 ..there was damage on the books that was quite clear...when I get a little extra money I'm going to Crack them out re submit and see what happens..I would ultimately like to do that three times just to see if there even close on any of the grading..maybe I'm just grumpy though haha

It's somewhat disappointing (in a strange way) to get back cards, books, etc. that you know are graded way higher than they should be. It's almost like you'd rather have faith in the integrity of the grader than just get a bunch of 9.8s or PSA 10s back. Sort of makes it less special. I dunno, maybe just me.

I'm glad you got high-grades but CGC is so inconsistent in there grading i will never understand why they are the industry standard. Ive seen 9.8s that look like 7.0s and 7.0s that look like high 9s for the last 10 years solid .I always buy the book not the grade .

Hey lunch money, just curious.....the manufacturing wrinkles on the secret wars #8, are those at the top of the book? Because I had a few circular wrinkles on mine and I had wondered about that. Mine is currently getting pressed and sent out for grading but I literally got it pressed just for that. Could you tell me more about this? Thanks!

Sure, mine seem to be right in the middle, mostly visible on the back (it’s hard to see once it’s slabbed). Very subtle. And they are more or less straight lines, not circles. And although they didn’t completely press out, they are better. So not exactly the same as you, but as far as grading goes I don’t think it affects the grade.

I agree that the Spare a Grade forum tends to be conservative. I'd rather be too harsh and pleasantly surprised than too optimistic and disappointed.

I definitely agree. I’m pretty conservative on the grades as well because I assume I’m missing something. I still think I received some very favorable grades on these that few would have predicted correctly.

Damn man! the grader you got must of got laid that night. I always get the dude in a bad mood grading my stuff!

I’d say, I just can’t justify the 9.6 on the Nova especially when comparing it to others. Maybe the grader was blinded by that high gloss lol

The market is crashing. Cgc is going to loosen up on grading to keep people sending
