CFMOTO 650MT 6 months review, Flawed or Fantastic?

a honest review to my OWN CFMOTO 650mt.
for more details please visit CFMOTO website for that extra info on their much underated motorcycles, and check out that awesome 650nk.

I'm Damon Hendrix and I haven't done nothing like this before, talking to a camera with no one there is an alien concept for me, I will get better, I was always a shy person, the type of person that you'd always find in the corner at a party, but the more I do it, the better I'll get.
hopefully I'll release the next video very soon, for the important riding test.
keep the shiny side up and ride safe 👍

So the wife said 'Buy a new bike - one that you really want' - wow. OK, you twisted my arm. However a Tenere is over $16k here in New Zealand, and the 650MT out the door at $8.5k. I thought that I had 'settled' on a lesser bike, but bang-for-buck, I couldn't be happier. Great video - get a windsock for your mike - and thank you very much.

I must've missed you otherwise you could've taken my MT for a spin, I took the GT for a spin as well yesterday and the power delivery is pretty much the same as the MT, but the seat is a lot more comfier on the MT as I rode to Yorkshire last Saturday, 158miles without stopping, I couldn't have done that on the GT. Like I said in the video, I took my MT into work pretty much every day last year, I got her in mid May, from +20°c to -4°c she just kept up with the punishment, started on the button every morning so reliability wise, she's spot on 👌

Do you feel any discomfort by the engine heat? D Is the chain quality so poor and it needs adjustments every 500 km (as another owner states). And the 1 mil$ question: Would you buy it again? Thanks! Good luck!

  • @iceniscrambler344

Thanks for your questions, my kind of questions,,, so, I still own her and apart from a seized up engine, faultless. The heat 🤔 the fan does kick in slow riding towns/cities however we had the warmest day in the UK in 22 at 40°c and I didn't feel the heat from the engine as much as other people say, maybe coz I'm welder by trade. The standard chain is crap, I had to change it and I put a smaller sprocket in the rear wheel, 70mph at 4.5k revs 👌. Would I buy it again?? The other one I'd buy is the honda cb500x which in my personal opinion is the most underrated bike in the world,,, but for what you get with the CFMOTO, I'd still buy the MT, maybe the new MT700 but definitely a CFMOTO

I’ve been looking at this bike for a while now as well. I commute and tour whenever I can, do about 12 to 16k miles a year. So not interested in resale value, but I am worried about the quality of fasteners, bearings, seals, shock, rust etc all the stuff you can’t see when you have a bike for only 7 month. The 3K savings must come from somewhere. Then what about sourcing parts? So Im going to wait a little I think. Im currently riding a 2017 Honda CB500x which has 60k miles on the clock. My swing arm bearings are going now, so is the rear shock. The head steering bearing.l need replacing. I had the water pump replaced at 56K. I get all the maintenance done as per schedule. I do nothing else but a little cleaning and chain maintenance. The bike has almost no rust. It’s parked outside always under the cover At work it’s parked in the loading bay, nice and dry. It will probably do another 60K miles after all the work is done. I just wonder if a CFmoto would fair as well as the Honda. If it does I’ll snap up a used one in a couple of years time. I love the concept. It has everything you need. Thanks for the Video

Thanks for the message, in a short answer is no. The honda cb500x to me is a far better bike, slightly slower than CF but a great bike. When it comes to savings, well they're made in China and the plastic pop rivets are atrocious to get out, also if you don't use the CF for a bit, the disc brakes rust like a Weasley. The parts are simply available if you buy Kawasaki er6 or versys parts, even though the CFMOTO 650 lump is built in China, the parts are still transferable as I found out with my first service, my 2nd service is coming up and I'll be doing a video on it and a 6000mile review, so hopefully that'll help

Nice review! Thinking of getting this as my first bike - BUT, it should have 56 hp and performance similar to Honda NC700X, which is poor (0-100 km/h 7 sec) and far away from Versys performance? There are mixing information on HP and don't know why, but in one video 0-100 km/h was 7.2 seconds, which suggests it indeed have 56 hp or so hp. I understand that as a beginner (old bloke tho), less is more, but also I'm sure after 4 months less is less and more is more. I'm 190 cm /6'2(?) and 110 kg - wonder if the size is ok for me? I'll be driving on highways and on some bike magazine articles they say you need to go down to third gear to overtake at 60 mph or so because the lack of power. Is there any way to increase hp? It's really nice bike and with proper power it would be my first bike. Again, great review, thanks!

Thanks for your comment, 1st: CFMOTO claim 60bhp, and I had a Harley with 80+ bhp and my MT650 pulls better, the 0-60mph or 0-100km to me is irrelevant as no one will ever do that in the real world, from 52mph to 70mph in 4th gear, she doesn't hang about. I actually filmed me overtaking a car that was doing 55mph and all I done was down to 4th and next thing I was doing over the speed limit, but safely away from said car 2nd: I'm roughly your size 6'1/188cm, 100+kg and I had a ride out last January where I did 158.6miles/255.2km without stopping, I found it really comfy and I shall be doing a long(ish) ride video soon as I'm planning a ride out to Stonehenge. 3rd: there is a way to increase bhp by putting an air command box, it just tells the ECU its slightly colder or warmer than it actually is and she'll increase in speed, as the touring/sport mode doesn't really make a difference, she just pops/bangs when coming off throttle on touring mode. As a 1st bike, she'll be more than adequate, I hope this helps 👍

@@iceniscrambler344 Thanks for prompt reply and good information! In Finland CFMoto announce 41.5 kW (~ 56hp), but outside Europe they seem to have 70-71 hp of the same bike(!) - could be because of the emission requirements? Those still apply to UK? Wondering if there'd be some remapping or something available. Well as you said I'm sure power is enough for me to learn to ride one - but sure would be nice to have an option later to upgrade to that 70hp. Looking forward for more CFMoto-vids! 👍

I do have a "power jet fuel commander controller" to be fitted, I just haven't got around to it, on the versys it makes a difference, but I haven't fitted on my MT650, that'll be a future video, as I'm in the process of moving home so that's keeping me busy, but the next video will be on 6000mile/10000km review as I just hit that, and basic servicing so hopefully that shouldn't be long before I release that video

@@iceniscrambler344 I have a 2021 Versys 650, that is how I know, only change was the EURO5 engine, the rest is the same as 2020. as for the warranty, my lambda sensor gave up the ghost in may 2022 and the dealer asked 400EUR for "warranty service", even if all products in the EU are subject to a 2 year warranty free of charge. I contacted Kawasaki Corporate and they responded that they stand by their dealer and if I don't like it I can take them to court (which would cost at least 1000EUR). So Kawasaki has no warranty!
