    Thanks for the vids Mark, always a fan. Some of these "emotional" impacts I would say in many cases are inflicted by circumstance and CFAI themselves. Having cancellations being at the whim of gov. policy that is non-transparent, having to lock in a location 6 weeks before the exam and then hoping it doesn't get shut down, and then seeing places like Atlanta cancelling candidates a few weeks out when they had lax covid protocols made this entire process additionally stressful right up until the end. Being in Ontario, the day to lock in an exam location was the same day Doug Ford had a press conference to increase provincial covid restrictions. Needless to say, no studying got done that day. Just a lot of stressful phone calls between family, Prometric, and some friends writing trying to strategize whether it was worth risking writing in Ontario or booking a location in the states. Tip for the future: places that up restrictions a couple months out from the exam may actually be safer to lock in, as cases dropped significantly by exam day. I can speak for myself that this was one of the hardest things I've ever done; trying to concentrate through the uncertainty. By the end I wasn't even worried about my performance, just that the exam would actually take place. It definitely took it's toll, as I've never really had any mental issues before, but was just in a huge mental / physical rut for over a month afterwards. Fortunately ended up passing lvl 3 so don't have to worry about doing this over again. But seeing that pass rate and knowing there are candidates out there that originally signed up for June 2020 that haven't written yet because they don't happen to live in certain locations, it's kind of ruthless. Good luck to those picking up the books for the same material again, you guys / girls are stronger than me and we'll all be celebrating with the charter soon enough, you got this!

    Mark Meldrum is such a legend. He reminds me of a main character in an Ayn Rand novel - masterful in his teaching, a true genius. He also has a great voice I can listen to happily for hundreds of hours. He doesn't charge nearly what he could for his products. It's not everyday I use a product I feel should be far more expensive. I recommend him to everyone I talk to about CFA study. Mark is truly a "prime mover," a "man of the mind." Earning the charter is likely to change my life and its all thanks to Mark. Thank you.

    I get that no question is harder, but reducing the total number given the detail level needed esp for L3 while not reducing the number of LOSs does make it harder imo and raises the variance of outcome. Thus to pass the level you need to know the material increases dramatically imo

    In the middle of L3 preparation journey I was looking for best practices in writing part, so was my first experience of MM videos. Actually, neither bloombergpreps, nor CFAI provide good training for efficient exam writing skills. For a person like me, who is not a native speaker, the AM session seamed too challenging. I liked the technique of concise writing that MM proposed, although untill yesterday I doubt if it works well for grading. Anyway, I took MM mocks as I believed the proposed technique is the best choice for me. At least, it enabled me to write an answers to ALL the AM questions. The PM was a way easier and I left it 30 mins before the end. Finally, I pass L3 (my first try), and I attribute huge part of AM success to MM training, thanks a lot!

    Hi Mark, Thanks for the great videos as usual. I would really apprieciate if you can provide some feedback on how to deal with the fact that in the AM exam, the individual questions in a vignette did not have any time allocation provided and there was no space provided to show calculations for the numerical questions. These two factors really threw me off and led me to perform quite bad in terms of my answer management. Obviously, I ran out of time before I could answer a big chunk of AM exam because of this. Would be great if I can know what to do to not repeat that mistake when I retake in November.

    Failed level 3 just right below the MPS. Literally had no problem with recognizing every question. I had problems with exam starting at 8am and formula typing during AM session, for some reason asterisk for multiplication was dissapearing when I was entering the formula and for example 567*567* (I didn't use formula input cfa created, used excel style of formula entering). This thing completely distracted me. You could test this thing out on prometric site still. I even have a video.

    There are rumors that the reason Level III AM/PM result breakdown were not provided by CFAI is that AM is being marked very differently now, and that there might be lack of consistency on how it's marked. Will this rumor be look into and will adjustments be made to your approach to AM now? Maybe too early to know...?

    Isn't it because the candidates could not circle key words/numbers and do calculations, right next to the vignette and the questions? With paper-based exams, we used to be able to do that. With the CBT, our eyes have to go back and forth between the computer monitor and a sheet of paper, where we do calculations.

    I think another explanation is the following - since L2 and L3 are now being administered twice a year (as oposed to only one time per year before) - maybe CFA Institute has a numeric goal of X new candidates that pass L2 each year, and Y new candidates that pass L3 each year (in order to keep the qualification scarce), etc - in such a scenario it is normal for them to lower the pass rate per exam in order to reach the same totals as before per year..

  • @Residentevil659
    @Residentevil6592 жыл бұрын

    Very good analysis but I’m not sure if managing director or staffs salary correlate with CFAI profits…grabbing more money is always good regardless of any share capital or individual beneficiaries…seems all macro factors will still be valid this year…it is more like a trend…those factors may be less impactful and push up the pass rate by few %…still low pass rate and a disaster for candidates… Would like to talk about fewer questions…if it is one of the reasons of lower pass rates, then it’s CFAI decision, not candidates fault…we have no choice but have to accept..,I would like to do 100 more questions to prove my ability and maintain the usual pass rates

    Well, you say stick at it, but I’m going to bow out at level 3. At least until they fix the exam format and/or the CFAI embraces a more reasonable level of transparency. I feel as though May L3 takers were used in an experiment. A very unstable experiment. CFAI saying candidates weren’t as well prepared as previous years is frankly insulting, especially for L3 takers where the opposite is more likely to be true. In my opinion unaddressed tech issues and the reduction in length of the exam made it a roll of the dice and a sub optimal representation of the curriculum.

    I am done with it as well. CFA are right though, we were not prepared as well as in previous years. That is because it was a completely new format. Bookwise we all did our jobs. I got 15 minutes less time than I should have and had to deal with a clunky user interface. Others will have faced similar issues. And as you say I think they got the AM length and time all wrong. I have seen a few other failures reports and they were like mine, all over the place. I scored very well on a chunk of topics and completely bombed others, that does not seem right to me. Ethics, something I have never gotten below the 90th percentile in, I managed to get near zero this time. Then you hear, like in this forum, about people that did go in unprepared and managed to pass. Something went very wrong with this exam cycle, and my guess is that the students were the same, it's not us that changed.

    @@jamesj.mccombie5031 yeah, my subject scores were all over the place too and don’t reconcile with how I performed in over 2000+ practice questions or how I felt on exam day. If I bombed I would have felt it, but I left thinking it was easier than I expected. A lot of people are saying this.

    It is unfair. The exam didn't measure the knowledge of true financial manager. I studied hard for 2years that is my time and life they play with! I have the previous exams since 2007 nothing like that! It is not technical problem the cbt is much better than paper exam. But the questions didn't measure anything except your luck

    29:00 There is nothing wrong with being average in most things. A person cannot be above average in all things. You just need to be above average in a few things.

    I really don’t understand how should I register CFA level 3 for 4th time. When I do practice, I believe that over forty percent of the official answers are wrong, such that too many questions are not really testing on real knowledge, with false logic question and mostly partial information reveal. For example, 20% alternative investments of national reserve fund is classified into most conservative even though, conservative level is of none alternative investments which include private equity investments. addition, this year report didn’t disclose two parts score separately. In conclusion, level 3 are fully cheating results. Of previous year passed, most likely all are questionable. How Should my exam results under manipulation for 4 years? I feel that Those withe people never deem they should be human when they deal with minorities, killing without reasonable mind.
