    Had an Ambeo (Plastic cracking Issues), Samsung Q950A (Boomy Bass, Poor Stereo Music), HT-A9 (Great atmos effects, but non existent mid range and crappy sub), in the end went with Integra receiver and Kef 7.1.4 speakers as I was tired of waiting for a quality soundbar setup. This Dragon is the soundbar I was really waiting for, what a beast!.

    Now this is how you revive a brand! The Dragon name stood for something that was at the TOP of its class, and this system clearly delivers! Dont think anyone else is even close to Nakamichi in sound bars right now. I say they should eventually get back to the HiFi stuff, perhaps start with a Nakamichi "Dragon" DAC and go from there.

    Just watched Caleb Dennison's impressions and even in the youtube video it sounded amazing. Unfortunately, $3,500 nowadays buys you an entry level home theater (most AVR are well over $1,000) so this being an optimized system should handily beat that. Heck, even 2 SVS 3000 Micros with an AVR would cost almost as much. We'll be seeing a lot of high-end soundbars as home theaters are too expensive and too complicated. Those overhead speakers are now the domain of dedicated home theaters or homes that don't mind having a few floating speakers in the ceiling with cables on the walls etc. Most people settle for 2 or 3 channel HT or a soundbar.

  • @Jacob-ed1bl

    @Jacob-ed1bl

    Entry level at best and it's not going to be a dolby Atmos setup, just a basic 5.1 or a little better. I couldn't come close to $3500 even if I used garbage speakers for my 7.2.4 theater room equipment. For what this does and how it performs i think it's a good deal "if real world results are good".

    I think, it'd be tough for anyone to come up with a system for $3,500 that would beat that because subs are expensive. You'd have to spend at least $1,200 for the subs assuming you go for the B&W 608 or $1,600 for the SVS 3000 Micro. Your AVR would have to be at least $1,500 for a fraction of the power assuming it can put out 3,000 watts. Then you go cheap on the speakers and get the Polk Reserve R600 and the matching center. You're already over that and you only have a 3.2 system. Sure, it's a fantastic system but it's a 3.2. And these are the easy and cheap speakers as the others require cables in the ceiling and in the back walls. Once you've run cables in the ceiling and rear of your living room, there's no end to what you'll spend on the speakers and electronics. Suddenly, the Nakamichi looks free. Although I would personally prefer that it looked like the MUSO 2 - in a nice maple/light oak, I would even consider replacing my B&W 703s since B&W will never make a speaker like that again for anything less than $15k. Looks matter as much as sound especially for soundbars which do not go into dark home theaters.

    @@je19921 Oh, that's how it starts. Everyone should watch Andrew Robinson's video of installing overhead speakers to understand what is involved. Unless the house is pre-wired or new construction, the word Atmos should be reserved for soundbars which are technically free when it comes to sound. Sure you pay some money but it's absolutely nothing compared to building a system in a real living space.

    At the MSRP of $3,499 (US), you can have a Mid-level Top-End AVR + 11 very good speakers & Subs which will definitely sound much, much better than this expensive toy. 😂 But I do appreciate the enthusiasm not in that price segment though. If it only has 2 subs & 2 surround speakers, Nakamichi is playing games by counting them twice (Kef doesn't do that with its subs with dual drivers, and no one did that with bipolar surrounds) - pretty sad for a company that used to be so respected.
