"They treated leaving as a sign of betrayal." Wow. Many years ago I worked for a restaurant chain. They had dozens of locations, as well as hotels and other real estate interests. Not a billion dollar company, but definitely successful, and I was about to go into their management training course before I changed my mind and left. On my last day, the owner came in, and I told him that I was leaving to pursue my career doing what I really wanted to do. His response? "Good. You're better than this place."

Jesus, you can’t have a side hustle and you can’t say you’re looking for work when you literally need a job to survive in this world lol. This right here is why CEOS often don’t get a lot of respect from me. They are so toxic to their employees that literally make THEM money! Let’s keep it real, there is no company without the hard work of the employees, period. On top of that, how disgusting of a person do you have to be to write how “unprofessional” a former employees post was and possibly get him blacklisted from getting another job. That is just pure evil. Because let’s face it, it doesn’t matter what the employee would of said if your old boss says stuff like that about you then that can have a huge impact on your ability to get rehired somewhere else. This is straight up unethical retaliation!

I usually have to refrain from informing the employer that I mess around with stocks and programming. Everytime I mention these 2 things, I never get a call back. I've come to a realization they're just looking for a docile, low skill employee who has nothing else really going on for themselves. Because if you aint got any goals your only objective everyday would be to wake up and work for them. They need you to 100% rely on them, that way you will do as you're told because that is your ONLY income. Meanwhile they have several incomes. They need somebody who is dependent and not independent. It's unfortunate because you think it would be the other way around. You would think you would want to hire leaders and not followers. Sad world.

Over time a few influential people morphed it into what it is today, a way to benefit the few. A part of the original concept is that profit is an important part of creating a better ecosystem for everyone. As profit allows for evolution and improvement. What they didn't think about was how people would abuse the system. It's a shame really. Point is that profit itself isn't the bad part. It's the mentality that's been created and promoted. By the kind of people like Joshua here for example, who believe a company's only purpose is to make profit and not to benefit the people.

I feel that the more the executives boast, celebrate and pretend that everything is great and everyone loves to work there; the worse the company is, both in culture and morals. IMO it's typically the companies where the executives are able to leave subordinates the fuck alone to their work and whatever they like to do in their free time, that's the better places to be. And they're usually better off economically too, because happy employees are productive employees.

Every business needs to accept that they're the "side hustle" in their employee's lives. They are not the reason your employees live and breathe. They are a hand crank that gets spun because money comes out every ten rotations. Any business that tries to be your family, your life, or your god is run and managed by psychopaths, and you need to bail out of that as fast as humanly possible. What employees do in their free time is not their employer's business. You get one life on this earth, just one, and you should spend it with your family and on hobbies you enjoy, like skiing or writing or painting, and not fighting to be the best slave possible. Employers who understand that are the ones that will earn real loyalty.

Our entire IT dept had to wear a company shirt that said "Team FAG" on Fridays. The CEO came up with the "Fourth and Goal" team concept as a way to unite and smash deadlines. He was older but not so old he couldn't get away with not realzing what he was doing. When it was brought up in a town hall meeting, he dismissed it as us being juvenile. Thankfully this was in Vegas in mid-2000s where dev jobs were plenty.
