Stepwells have for centuries played an important role in water conservation, storage and propagation but in today’s times they’ve been forgotten. This may change soon as a modern construction based on their ancient principles is changing the life of a village in Andhra Pradesh. The village of Nandyala is flourishing today thanks to the work of Architect Sameep Padora who used ancient learnings to create a modern solution to the village’s water wastage and irrigation problem. Temple of Steps is part landscape and part building, harmonized through the module of single corbel to bring water to a dry village. The water infrastructure is able to harvest roughly 1,370,000 litres of water. #India #Temple #andhrapradesh #mandir #architecture #stepwell

We need people like this who carry culture along with modernity, and this has happened in the past as well, ancient temples were also built for many purposes, worship was not the only purpose, Temple of Step and Jatayu Bird Statue It is an example of both culture and modernity

If you visit Hindu temples of Angkor Wat ,Cambodia you can see how every temple had a big water reservoir around it . The main Angor Wat Temple can hold approximately 2 million cubic meters of water.

Leave angkor Wat. Go to any big temple in South India, you'll find a temple tank.

The now in ruins, Martand Sun Temple is said to have a water reservoir within the the temple walls, plus many temples in Gujrat and Rajasthan also had water reservoirs.

@@rage8673 True. I completely agree. But I'm talking about functioning temples and not monuments. If you see it by numbers, definitely it's less compared to the southern states.

yes. its one of the largest man-made reservoir in the world, influenced by the Tamil kings, like Chola when they ruled over that region. also angor wat is the biggest ancient city after IVC. its about the size of SFO and that tank is what made it possible.

@@darkboss8399 Politicians will never do anything. It's time all Hindus come forward and officially announce that caste system is dead forever. This should be done in every village all over the country. Inter caste marriages should happen more to break the walls of caste.

@@chinanumbawun111 My family is multi-caste, so caste doesn't exist anymore. We're only Sanatan. ISKCON, the largest Sanatani organization in the world today, has no caste. Same is the case for others. Promote those devout Sanatani groups and families that represent this true Sanatan. As for Babasaheb Ambedkar, he and others like the AryaSamaj, Swayamsevak and others tried in various respects, but the British and their Indian stooges never wanted caste to end. How would they "divide and conquer" easily, if you end caste? The British never really left, their agenda was ongoing during Congress rule.

@@darkboss8399 They should have banned it in 1947 itself. But the Nehru Congress was and still is highly controlled by the British agenda that wanted to "divide and conquer" India. Ever since, the Congress worked to strengthen caste, in order to slice, dice and destroy the indigenous Sanatan unification.

It's a really good Idea.... That architect could also consult with Temple architects and could add beautiful designs too . I think we could build such temples in rajasthan, MP, jharkhand,and in Bengal

We have enough temples with carving. I love the simplistic stepped pyramid design for this temple.

Wow didn't expect that this temple would be featured here. This temple was built by JSW cements, a private cement factory located approximately 15km from Nandyal town. The temple is situated at 10km from Nandyal town. Little did I know when I visited that this has been built in a way that farmers can use water for fields. Amazing architecture. Thanks for featuring something from our town. Love from Nandyal❤
