Centralia Graffiti Highway Covered Up With Dirt

Ойын-сауық

The abandoned highway, formerly part of Pennsylvania Route 61, closed to the public in 1993, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. It was shut down due to damage caused by the continuously burning Centralia underground coal mine fire.
The road is privately owned by Pagnotti Enterprises, but continues to draw visitors. Some admire the graffitti, while others ride dirt bikes and ATVs. Graffiti Highway is a cultural landmark for many Pennsylvanians - a reminder of how beautiful things can arise from awful situations.
The owners of Graffiti Highway closed the site earlier this month, covering it with between 8,000 and 10,000 tons of dirt, the highway will become a field filled with trees and flowers, eliminating all of the creative graffiti and attractive imagery.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks for looking into Centralia further! I'd forgotten about Graffiti Highway altogether when I told you about the town earlier.

I heard the story of this town before, but this was a different angle that was new to me.

Will trees grow through bitumen a foot thick? If you bury a road like that doesnt it become landfill waste thus a rubbish dump? Do they need a permit for that? Maybe that's why 3 years later those piles still haven't been leveled?

People are enjoying something? We can't have that, let's spend money to bury it.

@@CathodeRayNipplezWell, they did show it coming out from the earth. You must have closed your eyes and slept through the part in how it happened. But hey, you go over there and go down inside there and let us know there’s really no carbon monoxide, ok Nippless. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@6Twisted.. Like I told the other guy, you must have fallen asleep when the narrator was saying that people were leaving empty spray cans all over and other trash and near a church, too. And they were spraying graffiti in a cemetery. That’s beyond disrespectful, especially to the families of the deceased. There’s millions of other places the people in that state can go to, to have fun. Give them your address so they can disturb and trash, and spray graffiti your neighborhood. You do want these people to have fun, right? Lol 🤦🏻‍♀️

Those piles of coal rubbish have now sat there for over three years. This will never be leveled or have trees planted on it, even weeds struggle to grow in those piles of crap to this day.

Except for grass. I saw a fair amount of grass growing on some of that dirt rubble in the video. Eventually it'll just look like a big grassy, hilly stretch.

It was beautiful to see in person, all the creativity. Such a shame they covered it up.
