Literally the platform is packed to the max, when the tube arrives people just simply step aside from the opening doors, the exiting passengers head towards the rear of the platform and the waiting passengers at the back take a step forward as the front passengers enter the tube. It’s like clock work, not a word uttered nor are there printed rules but the people just do it...mainly because they all have the same goal...to get home hassle free!

This is an improvement to the rush hour on Tokyo trains. On my line, train doors often have to be pulled open because of the sheer amount of people putting pressure on the doors, keeping them from opening on their own. Trains are often delayed because of a "sick passenger" which usually means someone fainted from the crowding. People here also occasionally violently shove their body into the train, desperate not to wait for the next one. Outside of rush hour, Tokyo trains are a relatively pleasant experience.

I wonder how much more capacity the deep level lines could handle if they widened every platform like they have done at bank. The gridlock on the platform really seems like a huge bottleneck, if it was just double the width then he trains could probably depart much more frequently as there would be space for people to move on and off the train much more quickly. Of course it would be incredibly expensive to do so, but probably worth the cost.

10 years ago it wasn’t like this. It has got 25% more passengers in 10 years. In 10 years from now it will be even worse. The London Underground (a century-old network built when the metropolis was virtually the same size but had a fraction of the population) is completely overwhelmed. It desperately needs expanding. Not just with 1 crossrail line but with multiple. Look how dangerously and extremely overloaded it is. And the population density is increasing every day.
