Mr Woolard's account of the War was very informative, you can tell he was in education. I learned a lot from his detailing of different situations which I found very interesting. I thank him for his service and taking the time to tell his story.

Old school tough guys. I miss them. I had 7 uncles in WW2 all saw combat. All came home alive.

WW2 halved the men of my family, out of 40 something 18 came home, those men were my mentors just not explainable to the kids today the stature the men of that generation carried themselves with, we walk on the shoulders of giants Semper Fi

I can relate to her deep reverence to one of our greatest generation!

My dad was born June 2, 1944 in Holland. Just celebrated his birthday a couple weeks back. RIP to all those whom are victims of war.

Great man and soldier. These WW2 VETs sound so different from the NAM VETs. WW2 VETs do not mention losing or wanting out. They are committed to victory and victory only.

Because they were fighting for freedom, not attacking a far away island that had absolutely no bearing on anything happening in the U.S., and has been called a meaningless war.

My relatives in Italy were bombed, raped, etc near Rome at that time. My Grandfather fought in north Africa , no food, water etc.. how I managed to give a small testimony is a miracle.

The 36th Infantry Division, the T Patch ( Which was an arrowhead with a capital T in it's center). I joined the unit during the Vietnam war many years after WW II.

My grand father was in the 82nd airborne w rank of capt and a medic who were allowed 2 carry a weapon.He was in normandy in the savage struggle in the hedggrows,then in holland operstion market garden;montgomeries bold plan 2 end the war quickly that fell way short of its objectives @ a high cost in men and equipment.He then got wounded in the battle of the bulge where he sed 1000s died on both sides.It was cold n bloody. Grandpa didnt tell this all @ once.It took yrs 2 extrcate this in short bursts and say anything 4 yrs in trying not 2 bring bak a nitemare.

The 36th and 34th div.s were thrown bak from monte cassino w heavy casualties.Like the man sed the germans had good troops in italy.It wasn't till late april that the germans capitulated in italy in late april 45.

My uncle said that they were mules, not burros! He also said that some were handled by American blacks.

Who had a truce during market garden?My grandfather was in market garden in the 82nd airborne.He sed it was ruff and the british got the worse of it.

@@hugbug4408 the British and Germans. The British used that time to collect wounded and those that could evaded capture. I did also hear that the Germans went in after they secured the area again and killed British wounded POWs at the aid station or field hospital. Any info on that by chance?

@@Dutychief yes,that's true.The ss did this in normandy on allied troops;mainly canadians and british troops.Ss also massacred us troops in.malmedy during battle of bulge.@ market garden yes I've Ted where the ss shot wounded british troops @ anthem;also civilians 2 which is typical ss(waffen).But my grandfather sed they pretty much wood fire 2 the finish;and also,german paratroopers units were finatical 2.

Why do these interviews always have to be interrupted so rudely? I love the content but the interviewer always comes off as a bit crass.

It's called a film/tape. They're not endless & have to be changed when they run out. Look into it, it wasn't that long ago when it was the only media available.
