Central Cascades, Gold Prospecting Near Portland Oregon. Gold-N-Sand and Gold Slinger.
Ойын-сауық
Welcome, on this adventure I go gold prospecting near Portland Oregon in the Central Cascades. My goal is to break apart shallow bedrock for chunky gold. I use the Gold-N-Sand which is hand operated to clean out the cracks. I also use the Gold Slinger Classifier Bucket to classify the overburden. After all of that I run the gravel through my sluice to retrieve the gold. Follow along for the adventure.

Time to put that Dakota Fred signed bucket on the shelf as a saver. :) He was a legend. Great vid. Keep it up.
Just found your channel. Great stuff. I've been interested in gold panning forever. I think you've motivated me seeing as I'm also near Portland. 👍

@@prospectingforadventurekinda new here too and was curious, how did this hand pump dredge pan out? Do you still use or recommend? I just started prospecting early this last summer and have been blessed to have found a speck my first time out here in Ohio, then a few months later I'm pulling gold outta rivers and streams in S. Dakota, Colorado and Wyoming and this thing looks like a great tool and workout.
Another enjoyable watch. Will watch some others later. Keep em coming

Little creeks and bedrock are my favorite!
Forget that hand dredge. Bring a cut in half the long way 55 gallon plastic barrel with heavy rope tied through it. Shovel into it and pull it to your sluice. Move more get more. Box running high and fast with a good grizzly like the ones I make with 3/8 holes in the punch plate. Heavy duty steel

That would work in a situation where the gold is distributed through the gravel. That's not always the case here. Most of the time, it's down on bedrock where shovels fail to finish the job. I appreciate the tip though, that'll be useful in other locations.

There are just certain situations where running more gravel isn't going to net you more gold. I could run gravel here all day and get very little gold or just tiny dust. Or I could target bedrock and find chunky gold and typically more than sluicing. That's not always true with every river. That's just how it works there. This is also a 4 mile hike. I definitely wouldn't want to carry a heavy keene box in there.

I see your request on Facebook. I'll catch you there.
I just finished assembling the same hand dredge and was looking for videos of people using it. Watching this, I was wondering if it were possible that some of the fines ended up stuck in the hose, but I'm sure you thought of that already. I'm looking for a smooth hose but haven't seen one flexible enough.
@prospectingforadventure
Жыл бұрын
Yes the hose catches gold. You can flush water through it and shake it out into the bucket. I've had gold hang up in the valves too. Just clean it out occasionally and you'll be fine. Make sure you soak the leather cup before using.
@nwoboecane
Жыл бұрын
@@prospectingforadventure Thanks for responding! Funny enough, I soaked it in the bath tub and tested it there. Water was shooting up out of the top for a couple of days and I thought the leather cups had a problem. Taking it apart I realized that oily hair conditioner coated everything and kept it from absorbing water. Cleaned it up and re-soaked. Appears to be working great now.

Where do you get the hand dredge?
I can't get my Gold and sand to run right. Keeps building back pressure to the point I can press down the plunger. I've checked the valves . Just won't work for me. Idk glad yours is working great

Do you have a rock plugging it up somewhere? Call Cash Best at Gold-N-Sand. If you have an old valve setup he'll probably send you an updated one. Tell him you spoke to me. The valves also work better positioned a certain way.
