Did the Celtic spiral have any spiritual significance? What was its purpose? Was it even a Celtic symbol?

Thank you. I just found your channel. I found the triskele symbol on a diy craft that was given to me by my neighbor. It was a part of his deceased wife’s collection of diy arts and crafts. I find that to be symbolic in itself. In her death some of her supplies were given new life when passed on to me. Idk that’s my quick interpretation.

Thank you and welcome to the channel. Its good to hear that your neighbours wifes hard work and skill will continue to be appreciated and cherished after her passing. That I think is important in honouring the memory of her.

Hey! Nice to meet ya! Hen and I live in New England and are avid history lovers. I just saw a TED talk about another symbol found all over the world. It is the three hare symbol. This image consists of three hares following one another with an ear from each hare touching to form a circle in the image's center. Now if you focus on one of the hares it appears to be displaying both ears but if you pull your focus back then each hare is displaying just one. Since both images have the number three and feature an unbroken loop, I'm wondering if they are related maybe one evolving from the other?🤔

Thank you and nice to meet you too. The three hares in a circle is the same one I use as my youtube branding symbol at the bottom right of my screen. The hare was a symbol of spring and fertility and as you pointed out the number 3 was significant amongst those who came from the long line of nature based religions. The interconnection is also significant as everything within nature moves between cycles. The Sun, the Moon and the Earth's seasonal cycles, the vegetation cycle (life, death and rebirth). All things in nature are cyclical and their all interconnected. Hope that answers your question and thanks again for the comment. Glad you liked the video.

Great channel, finally something that is not New age.... About the spirals, yes, probably they were not originally Indo-European but they become part of our heritage and our collective consciousness. Cucuteni-Trypillia culture also had spirals and this culture influenced Eastern Slavic. So now we have triple spiral as a decorative symbol on the Ukrainian Eastern eggs. Ancient Danubian cultures influenced Southern Slavic one, and these ancient cultures also had triple and other spirals. I also noticed spirals on Western Slavic folk clothes, which could even be Celtic influence cause Celts inhabited Bohemia...

This is an excellent channel, I'm glad to have found it. Thank you. I agree with you too. The symbol is primordial and eternal and represents all things life-enhancing that come in 3s, including the Christian Trinity. The Holy Spirit I am tracing through SW Cymru often draws triskeles at sacred places. I have some videos on Her journey on my channel.

Thank you, I'm glad your liking the channel. I agree there are many ancient beliefs that have filtered down through the ages to influence todays religions, the trilogy for one (Isis, Osiris and Horus as well as the christian trilogy made somewhat unclear due to the patriarchal dominance of the christian church) the manifestation of the god in human form such as the Egyptian pharaoh being the earthly incarnation of Horus. The death and rebirth of the Sun God at the Winter solstice and the resurrection at the Spring Equinoxe to mention a few. Welcome to the channel.

Triskelion is not a greek symbol. It was there long before the Greeks invaded Sicily. It also cannot be associated with Christianity, as Conservative Christians in Italy want that symbol to be removed from Sicily's flag.

I made blogs on these I looked into every culture known that used them and found a pattern each spiral means different. Single spiral most likely means The Sun & Rotation of the planet and the Galaxy we live in. Double Spiral means Water & Healing Triple means The way into the afterlife quadruple spiral means The Solstices & Equinoxes. The one in spain with the moon and other small spirals mixed with one big spiral also has to do with Astrology how the earths orbit revolves around the sun & moon. Looked into Greek sources, Roman sources, Sources in Mexico, Sources in Spain, Sources in Native American beliefs for those who don't know The native americans once settled along the Danube river. And varies tribes have not only their culture but other European cultures from the time of Siberia. Before inhabitting of the americas also Euskal Herria sources as well Lots of sources all groups ancient Celts we're around at one point of time. As well as other Iron aged people

Yes, many want fast food social media, in turn though they miss the context and then perhaps the whole point. There are those though, I agree, would prefer to gaze into the eyes of Ronald Mcdonald than the Mona Lisa. Sometimes there's a lot more between the air than just space.

You said that the New grange people were before the celtic culture arrived. Every religious thought grows and changes through time. New grange is a family tomb and its tri skellion has two large spirals and one small spiral. Perhaps it represents generations. Most people's families have only grandparents, parents, and children.

As far as I know, here in Ireland it is associated with The Morrigan. The 3 spirals for the 3 forms the goddess takes on. They are Macha, Nemain and Babd. Also Mind, Body and Soul which make up the mental, spiritual and physical aspects of life.

Yes, the quantum soup of which all is manifest. Science is the gospel that tells what we currently know about nature. Not sure it had any place in the minds of the people that made these designs though all they understood was the natural world and how they saw it as interconnected.

I don't know what any of that has to do with the video, but anyway, to be correct, All you mentioned is mythology and Celtic mythology I may add. The Celts never arrived in Ireland, the most current thinking is that the Celtic culture spread to Britain and Ireland through trade and migration.
