Love the pizzicato on the cellos! So COOL! The Wiki page for Apocalyptica stresses no guitars or bass, just drums and cellos, so it appears they are mimicking a guitar sound pretty well. Love the selection Shira so please dive into more. This is my first listen to them and I really enjoyed it. Looks like another symphonic metal rabbit hole🥰

Saw them at Aftershock back in 2022. They were glorious, and it was hilarious listening to all the young teens & tweens spinning out after hearing them cover some Metallica tracks as well as doing their original stuff. My absolute favorite track of theirs is Rise. When they toured with Epica last year they re-released a version of it called Rise Again with Simone singing. Both versions are stunning but I prefer the original. They also did a wonderful collaboration with Epica on their song Rivers. All three songs are on KZread. Well worth checking out. And just grab their recent album Cell-0. Its all class. Not sure about the guitaresque sounds but I'm pretty sure they have modified the cellos and use effects pedals with them.

I’m shocked you had never sat down and listened to Apocalyptica until now because I believed it is right up your alley! I was given a burned copy of their CD when I was in orchestra by a girl who was NOT my classmate. She was in Concert Band, not in orchestra, and heard of me from our music teacher, who I assumed loved punishing me and screaming at me to play music properly but was actually telling other classes how badass I was, and said since I was a rebel, I should have a copy of Apocalyptica’s Metallica played by Four Cellos. Don’t remember her name. I remembered standing there confused. Our school had a very large music program and a larger school population so she just left me standing there in shock. I thanked her though. And watching your video just reminded me of her. That was 23 years ago! 😮 The only thing I remember in music class was the higher you go on a cello (lower on the fingerboard), you can sound exactly like a viola or violin. And listening to stringed orchestras cover Metcallica, usually the violin plays the higher guitar part. That’s some crazy mad skills to sound exactly like a guitar though. Even I had to stop and really listen. 😮 Try listening to their Plays Metallica by Four Cellos. (I knew there used to be four of them, but wasn’t sure.) I know I am going back to confirm if one of them played like a guitar. 😱

For Me the Drums are Not necessary. My Favorit apocalyptica Song the last 20 years is path vol 2. It is from the time when they was still 4 strings and before the a Drums. Singer is Sandra Nasic From the band Guano Apes.Definitely worth listening to or a reaction

It's definitely all cellos, but they're not your standard acoustic cellos these days, they have pickups and amplifiers and effects pedals like electric guitars have.
