First song I heard by Anna/Eluveitie was Omnos about seven years ago. It was so foreign to me. Offputting at first, but mesmerizing. I had to hear more of the band. Eluveitie became one of my first exposures to European rock, specifically folk metal. I quickly fell in love with the band. The passionate voices. The hurdy gurdies and other (Celtic?) instruments mixed beautifully with modern counterparts. The amazing melodies. The stories told through the music. To this day it remains my favorite band. So sad to see band members part ways. Obviously we'll never get to hear quite the same kind of music again, but it's good to know that the spirit of the band will live on in the people who made it. This new music sounds awesome.

tbh, I like Cellar Darling more than Eluveitie, I'm not saying I don't like Eluveitie, they are really above awesome, but this album has an overall shill, deep, sentimental, hypnotic feel to it that imo really is something else, I can't stop listening to it. Freezing is the right word, the whole album gives me a sense of coldness and freezing, the constant lyrical idea that they manage to translate into the melody with great melodic composition together with great lyrics.

"The hurdy gurdies and other (Celtic?)" - fun fact: the hurdy gurdy is the "upgraded" version of the "organistrum" which was invented some time around the 10th century in France.

fantastic instrumental. Ivo and Merlin kill it as always! the vocals didnt really grab me till about halfway through, but when they did grab me i was hooked! Eagerly waiting for more!

After listening about 25 times I have to correct myself. This is seriously good and perhaps better than Challenge. Sounds a bit like old U2 but more metal. The hurdy gurdy part is really catchy in a sneaky kind of way. Also could imagine this as part of a movie soundtrack. Last bit ("I'm freezing") sounds a little like Björk or Marie Fredriksson. Vaguely Scandinavian, can't quite pin it down. But I listen to Scandinavian stuff a lot and I detect similarities.
