Celiac Disease & Gluten Sensitivity Part 1: Symptoms

What's all the hype about wheat and gluten? And why is everyone talking about it now when we never had problems with wheat in the past?
In this video, Dr. Biscoe discusses what celiac disease is, the difference between a food allergy and food sensitivity, and the common yet little-known symptoms of celiac disease and gluten intolerance.

I’ve been having digestive issues for 3 years now (constipation, diarrhea, abdominal cramps) along with migraines and mild depression. have gone to the 3 doc, hospitalized twice they have ran test (CT scan, X-ray and colonoscopy and results come back normal. Never once do they ask me about diet or what I have I ate before these symptoms occurred. Going gluten free starting tomorrow to see if it helps. Thank you 🙏

I'm so sorry that you were left without answers for so long! Many people don't realize that medical doctors don't learn nutrition in school - it's not a part of their curriculum. I hope gluten avoidance helps, and thanks for sharing your kind feedback. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is another great tool. ~Dr. B.

Thank you so much for this series, Ashley. It's so informative and helpful. I appreciate it a lot because in my opinion these 3 videos are some of the best most comprehensive videos on celiac disease on KZread and on the Internet. I'm guessing this series took quite a bit of time and attention to put together. I've researched quite a bit celiac disease in the last few weeks, and can say that these 3 videos on this topic are really good. And I appreciate your sensible and intelligent take on the fact that biopsy is not necessary, that with a bit of attention one can definitely avoid to poke people's intestines from the inside with sharp objects... In most other videos people/doctors don't talk about it, and also for some reason people seem to think that yes - we should avoid biopsies in children, but in adults - who cares, I guess? It's ok to poke from the inside the intestines in adults, I guess? 😄 Just madness...) 4:02-4:32 A very important detail. Not to mention that malabsorption alone leads to bad physical and cognitive development, weak immune system, etc. I can only imagine how much suffering people endure when they don't get diagnosed correctly for decades, or even more tragically - never. 🙁

I like that you mentioned the mental aspects, somehow a minor mood disorder became full blown in correspondence with my gluten consumption. I couldn't figure it out and obviously the typical response is SSRIs and not "have you tried cutting out gluten?" But I managed to see the pattern and caught it before it got too extreme.

Doctors said it’s auto immune but nobody said it’s due to my gut health . whenever I eat oily foods very next day I get itchiness on my skin . Doctor pls tell me this, I’m eating healthy foods and no Gluten foods for the past 1 year - will this fix my gut linings ? And if yes, will this fix my body to stop producing antibodies and cure my thyroid or the mouth ulcers ?

The problem is that gluten especially wheat gluten causes inflammation and it also keeps the body from absorbing the nutrients we need to fight inflammation naturally. Plus we've been told not to eat eggs and replace them with more wheat gluten ect . I gave up wheat years ago but I just recently found out that I was iodine and lutein deficient as a result of wheat sensitivity or Celiac disease . I have discovered that taking lutein supplements works wonders for my inflammation everything from head to toe . All the symptoms you are describing are inflammation. Take lutein ASAP .

I found a good muscle tester to be very effective. Try the school named Ulan down in Florida. Their graduates are all over the country. Or you can look up NAET or Dr Klinghardt on the west coast. All three teach their own system of muscle testing for allergies. There is also the MHA - meridian health analysis, which can catalogue over 7000 sensitivities in one visit to the doctor. I've been through all of this stuff since 2001. Let me know if you need more info. I wish these food allergies on nobody.

Thank you for this video!. you mentioned many of my symptoms. First symptom(18 months ago) was massive hair loss(about 500 hundreds per day out of nowhere) from scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows and body hair. I lost 80% of my hair all over my body. After every shower I was traumatised. then came other symptoms- constipation, unexplaind iron deficiency that doesn't respond to iron pills(for 10 months),unexplained weight loss, tingling all over feet and hands, memory problems, extreme fatigue, yellowing of the nails, stomach rumbling no matter what I eat, stomach cramps. my gasto suspects celiac but the weird thing is that I got a biopsy a year ago and it was normal(only gastritis). my gastro wants another one. there is a chance that second biopsy can show celiac?(do you know any people who their first biopsy was normal?)Thank you!

White bread is typically made with bleached wheat flour, so it will still contain gluten. A better option would be to skip bread altogether, make your own gluten-free version, or look for brands in the store that are certified gluten-free.

Its not a hype. hugs . xx. I have real Coeliac Disease/ Celiac disease and Morbhus Durhing its very rare and only can be tested by a biopsy, this is the real way. I am also allergic to grass, pollen etc but INTOLERANT for GLUTEN and WHEAT. This is called intolerancy not allergies. Offcourse we as rare disease auto immune sufferers can only get better if we stop gluten and wheat. The rest you have to do allergy test. Lactose is also an intolerancy not an allergy. I follow a vegan/vegetarian diet and let it be known its dangerous as im plantbased and a gluten free wheat free human being thats almost impossible. SO DONT TRY THIS AT HOME WITHOUT A DOCTOR OR YOUR DIETIST please. Most people can eat gluten with being plantbased but i cannot its medical. I wish their was a pill but there wont be. Otherwise i was a vegan without any trouble. So i am still cruelty free xxxxxxx
