Celestron Omni 2X Barlow lens Unboxing and full review.

If your looking to upgrade your existing stock barlow you can't do much wrong with the Celestron Omni. I am so impressed with what you get for the price, this is a quality barlow I would recommend to anyone. Even caught a glimpse of the Cassini Division whichI haven't been able to see before through a 130mm telescope..... But, it does come with bit of a WARNING!
APOLOGIES! for low quality I uploaded the video in 480p instead of 1080p.....what a fool.

    A splendid review. I've this Barlow lens. I bought it here in The Netherlands a couple of years ago, for about €40. It's an absolute cracker too. There's no discernable reduction of image quality when I use it. Everything remains sharp and bright. It kind of leaves you scratching your head while thinking, how do Celestron do this? For the price, you can't go wrong with this X2 Barlow lens. It's a great addition to your astronomy/astrophotography box of tricks. I will mention that to get the best out of quality lenses like this Barlow. It's highly advisable to upgrade the inferior, stock diagonal mirror that usually comes with your telescope, to something that's super flat with 99% reflectivity. I use one from TS Optics and it makes a huge positive difference to the viewing quality. It also has a nice brass compression ring.

    Another great vid but have to add - ebay useless for issues but Amazon I have always found spot on. Just make sure it is not market place and they will support the buyer every time. I hate to support such a conglomerate but they deserve it imho and that is why I use them. NEVER had an issue with Amazon customer support.

    Sorry left another comment somewhere re celestron eye piece / filter kit, but realise now that it means each item in it must be quite cheap. Maybe the Omni 2x Barlow + omni 15mm eye piece etc better? Also is there a star diagonal you can recommend? Using the default that came with my travelscope

  • @TheDragonballboy

    Wow I think I found a heavily underrated channel! Awesome tips! I have a question though! I'm not sure if I should get a 4mm eyepiece ($17) or the 2x Barlow lens ($37) the one featured in this video. I have a celestron travelscope 80 (400mm focal length) and I'd like to see the craters of the moon up real close.

  • @smalloptics753

    @smalloptics753

    Thank you friend for kind words. without a doubt I would choose a barlow over a cheap 4mm eyepiece, cheap short focal length EP are just that cheap and bad views, with a barlow lens you will get the views you are looking for. With your telescope I would go for maybe a 3X barlow. If you use a 10mm eyepiece and a 3X barlow you will be getting about 120X magnification, which is plenty for the moon. Hope this helps.

  • @TheDragonballboy

    @@smalloptics753 Oh the 4mm eyepiece is an official Celestron one not some poopy generic one, sorry I forgot to mention it. Thank you for your kind suggestions but 3X Barlow is a bit too pricy for me (more than $100) but the 4mm Celestron eyepiece would yield 100x zoom on my scope, my current highest zoom is 40x. I think the best value for money might be that 4mm at $17. Thoughts?

  • @michaelshea1683

    @michaelshea1683

    3 жыл бұрын

    SoldierSparky, the problem with the 4mm eyepiece is the very small opening to see through. You'll have to hold your eye directly over the lens which is difficult. With a Barlow you maintain the bigger opening of the higher MM eyepieces with the benefit of the 2x or 3x magnification...obviously. 😁

  • @TheDragonballboy

    @TheDragonballboy

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@michaelshea1683 I did have a more thorough comparison between the two and yes you're very right. The 4mm has a very teeny tiny hole to look through in comparison to a 10 or 20mm attached to a Barlow. I did have a look at Small Optic's suggestions and dug really deep into the Barlow lenses and actually managed to find a 3x Barlow for $30!! Made by SVBONY and amazon reviews for it seem to praise it very well for a budget piece. I think I have the ultimate beginner astronomer starter kit mwahahaha xD!

    Just re the pricing from China: Don't you have to pay import tax/duty from China? I asked a similar question from a guy I bought an SCT from when he said he bought stuff from Aliexpress (also China) but he didn't pay any more than the advertised price. So I'm confused. Can you clarify?

    Hello Jean, for the planets I usually use a barlow with a 15mm or a 10mm, and if the conditions are good a 6mm plossl without a barlow. As a guide, a 10mm is around the highest power eyepiece to use with a barlow without the view getting blurry. Hope this helps, Take care, clear skies :)

  • @smalloptics753

    @smalloptics753

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Darren, when you use a mirror diagonal you can connect a barlow directly into the focuser followed by the diagonal then the eyepiece, the reason you would do it like that is so the eyepiece doesn't protrude to far out of the diagonal. You would do it barlow then eyepiece in a reflector telescope, so really there is know right or wrong way, it all depends on what type of telescope you are using the barlow with. Hope thats cleared it up for you.
