Mate, please consider posting 'shorts' on celestial objects you observe using your telescopes and binoculars. Thanks in advance! ❤

Is it similarly capable to the other 114 astrosense that you got ? How does it compare? Thank you

If I may I can respond comparing it to other 114mm I have used. I have never seen an Astrosense and can't find it for comparison, but if you are talking about the Starsense Explorer LT 114, then they are the same exact optics, and both are Bird-Jones designs. Compared to other short form factor scopes that use a corrector lens like my own iOptron 114, and others some children brough to Astro parties, they are about the same viewing quality of planets and the moon. I am pretty sure the primary mirrors are pumped out from the same place. When culminated they are decent scopes for planetary and lunar viewing on a budget. On DSO they aren't so bad either for andromeda or Orion, Not great for smaller or further objects though. There are drawbacks. Culminating them because of their design, is a bit more involved. They have a corrector glass inside that has to be removed before you can star culminate or laser culminate. They also do not have a center mark on the primary to make targeting the center easier either. Out of box, they tend to be culminated well enough. Just set it outside several minutes before usage and there should be no issues. If you need to culminate there are several videos on how to do that for "Jones-Bird" and Celestron 127EQ on KZread to help you with that. There are other options. It really depends on what you are looking to do. Typically, I suggest a decent 80mm refractor over the 114mm Jones-Bird. With children, I tend to not suggest Dobsonian designs because of their fidgeting when using them, and the storage space problems. I have lost a lot of aspiring astronomers due to damaged Dobs from improper storage. Dobb's do give a better image when culminated but at 114mm, in reality, they are comparable in quality with a Jones-Bird designed Newtonian although do edge them out on DSO's. With this size of scope DSO's will be difficult to enjoy outside of clusters unless you have good Bortle skies, regardless. I hope this was helpful, or at the very least not an annoying read.

It's a review and a honest one. I take it this is about the snobbier around Jones-Bird designs. Over the years I have watched Dobs end far more aspiring young astronomers than the Bird-jones. Summer after summer seeing Children show up with bent or crushed tabletop Dobs or long focal ones from poor storage just made them heart broken and discouraged. This particular scope however, I notice kids who got it returning year after year into their teens. Keeping the equatorial mount and using it's dove tail design to mount better and better scopes. They enjoyed their original scope well enough to return and through the eye piece it was no worse than a tabletop Dob but kept the ability to be able to be setup anywhere. The difference was the Dob kids never return or switched to equatorial mounts while the Bird-jones kids just kept stepping up to the next level. So what did I observe? The Dobs needed flat surfaces for setup. The kids that tended to not have a steady ability to track and when using the chest method their heartbeat even interfered with their enjoyment. The equatorial bird jones kids had to learn to set it up correctly but learn tracking smoothly and enjoyed what they seen. The ones that had blurring issues, I taught them how to culminate a jones and the extra steps. They are no more complicated than any other Newtonian. 1 extra step. I figured out that what kills a hobby faster is smug amateur attitude's like yours. You would just tell them to buy a different scope and never teach anyone anything unless they have the "proper" equipment.
