    Excellent job introducing the F12X and F12M in a real world type application that we users are likely to pursue! Myself I have an F12-X200 and built the cabinet that Celestion published the specs for so I could be sure it was giving me everything it was designed for. It is a great speaker for modelers for sure, it gives that little bit more of a 'real amp' experience that we all look for when using digital 'amps'. Since I have it connected to a mixer output that my quad Cortex is feeding into it is easy to use the presets you uploaded and they don't disappoint! I'll be saving a few of them to use and as templates to plug my own captures into. Looking forward to the rest of your journey with QC and the F12M / F12X

    Great job Doug, best showcase of these incredible speakers to date. I put an X200 into a Marshall VS112 closed back cab which sits under a VS100R combo, then added a cab switcher to allow me to select which speaker is active. My Boss GT-1000 sounds so much better through the X200 cab compared to running it through a normal guitar speaker. I still get to play through my amp in the normal fashion when I want, but when I use a GT-1000 patch with modelling, I simply flick the cab switcher to run through the X200 cab. Great setup for home based playing.

    @@JustinShreds Hey! Totally depends on the vibe you're going for. If you're looking for uber-tight bottom end, the you probably don't want to got with a port or open back in order to keep maximum punch. And as I sure you know, a classic part of Fender style tones is the fact that the open back cabinet loosens things up in the bottom and the sound has more of a fill the room vibe as it bounces off the wall behind the amp. So... if you're seriously leaning in either direction, you'll probably go to one of the two extremes, if you're looking for a balance, open back is probably the better way to go with a single 12. If it's on the floor you'll get the aforementioned back wall bounce. Like their 4x12 counterparts, closed back 1x12 cabs are pretty directional, which means that if it is on the floor you'll be hearing a really off axis version of your tone which means that what you'll tune your tones to will most likely be pretty different that what's actually coming directly out of the front of the cab. This can sound awesome, but begins to be problematic when creating tones for 'the room' AND recording/direct out. Hope that helps! Cheers ~ Doug:)

    Hi Doug - any recommendations? I bought a pair of F12M-150's and put into my old Vox cabinet. I am having really mixed results, that are perhaps not that far from some of the experiences of the Kemper w/Kones. On my Quad Cortex I find that generally high gain sounds are very washed out and I have to make some serious EQ tweaks -- generally boosting low (125hz) by 3.0+dB and then 4-5k boost by 2.0dB -- additionally often reducing some mid range frequencies (2-4k) by -1.0dB. For clean sounds the same frequencies but the increase are far less.

    Hey Jari! The Power Stage is a GREAT choice. While anything you add will add some sort of color, these power amps sound great and have been 100 reliable for me - I have the 170 too. The key advantages of the 200 is dual outs and if you need it (which you won't with the QC) speaker emulation which is cool if you just want to use some sort of amp in the box thing. While I haven't tried the 200 yet (or using an amp in the box with it), I've been super impressed with the 170 and the 700 and have the option of speaker emulation is always a great card trick to have up your sleeve. Hey JASON - NICE! So here's the question, are you a mono or stereo player. If mono is your thing, the blend is AWESOME, and will add some depth of field that is really cool. If you're running and/or thinking about going stereo, using two identical speakers is ideal. Why? You can always use two different IRs, but having the 'matched pair' enables you to have a shared based tone that you can add stereo effects using a common 'base tone'. I talk about that a bit in the next video in the series. If by chance you went hog wild and got two 2x12 cabs, then I'd suggest using the blend in each cab, as that would be great for mono with one or both cabs, and stereo with both cabs since they'd share the same speaker blend. Again, in the next video I do an A, B, A+B demos with clean and dirty tones, and the blend sounds REALLY nice, IMHO. Hope that helps:) Thanks again ~ Doug;)

  • @DougDopplerMusic

    @DougDopplerMusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Dave! I really like the blend. What I'm loving about the comments is that we're collectively visiting some options we've never really had in the modeling world. That is to say, what about two 2x12 cabs? I would be inclined to place them in the cabs in such a way that if I were to stack or put the two cabs side by side they would replicate the x-pattern I went for in the 4x12 cabs. As I was editing the video I kept noticing that not only the M150 only had more high end at 5k, it seemed to have a bit less low end. At first I thought I might have missed the low end on the mic placement so I went back and checked the frequency curve chart, and noticed that the M150 does have a bit less going on in the bottom end. For this reason in particular, I think they compliment one another really well. It's not like the M150 is bass light, or that the X200 lacks top end, they are just a bit different, which is kind of odd to say about flat speakers. To add a bit of a twist to all of that, if you or I just played Strats or Les Pauls, then I *might* be inclined to suggest X200 and M150 respectively. While the X200s aren't in the least bit tubby nor are the M150s fizzy, on guitars that can get tubby or bright, this is a legitimate consideration. Speaker geeks unite:)

    Do celestion make or plan to make IRs for amp in the room kind of sound? Since all modelers and IRs are emulating sound of the recorded cab, which is not the point when you are trying to mimic a real speaker in the room, not a recorded one. So if that buzz lives somewhere between 6500 and 20,000 Hz, the F12 will still audibly reproduce it, but you wouldn't necessarily hear it coming from the V30.

    @@NSRider24 So I just finished swapping out the G12H-90 for the F12-M150. Fits fine, the F12X-200 won't fit however. The short version is that you have to unscrew the back panels and various screws to get access to the speaker, of course making sure to disconnect the cable from the back of the amp chassis. Interestingly, the chassis is held in place by the screws for the handle - never seen that done before. Once the handle is unscrewed you pull the chassis out and then you can swap the speaker. The next video is going to be on the Line 6 family, and since I have two of these amps I''ll be able to do some 'true' stereo demos since they'll have the same speakers and I can get away with putting different stuff on the left and right. that would be my thought in this moment at least, so thanks for the inspiration. Unlike Helix, the Quad Cortex does not currently give you separate pre-amp and power amp blocks, the latter I'll probably not use with for the demos. BUT, there is nothing wrong with a tube power amp, and via MIDI there are some really cool things you can do with the topography for the power amp section. I'd suggest checking out the next video which will hit in a a little under two weeks. Cheers ~ Doug:)

    GREAT question. Like P.A. speakers, these are full range, but the response to how they feel underneath the fingers and strings is markedly different. It's why playing through monitors never feels like playing through a cabinet - the attack and bloom never feels right since they were designed for a range of instruments, not just guitar, which unlike pretty much all the others is ALL about the feel and the bloom. If you think of standing in front of a P.A. with a modeler going front of house and chugging (if you do the chug thing) and the way they respond is different. These speakers were designed to produce the frequency response with the 'live' feel we're used to as guitar players from guitar speakers, and I think they do a great job at both. Again great question:)

So the whole thing about F12-X200 being rated at 200 Watts and the F12M-150 is 150 Watts (FINALLY a product whose name actually means something to the 'rest of us') is that some folks will use this with higher powered power amps like my Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 watt monster, which obviously sends out 350 watts per side. THAT is where you can get into trouble by overpowering a speaker's rating vs. under powering it, as the good folks at Celestion pointed out. The thing you WILL need to keep in mind is the depth of the speakers. The M150 is less deep and has fit into just about every cab I've measured it for (doesn't fit in the Mustang 100, unfortunately. The M150 is approximately 5" / 127mm deep and the M200 is approximately 6.5" / 165mm deep. Some combos snuggle all the bits around the speaker, so a quick look with a measuring tape would be my suggestion. ALSO - double check it has an effects loop, which as I recall is on the bottom side of the chassis, accessible from the back of the amp:)
