    This may not make sense, but I find there's a new way that certain singers say their r's, almost like a w sound, like an intentional speech impediment... is it called cursive? That sort of lazy, relaxed mouth singing? Those could be soggy r's. 😊

    @KingoftheJuice18 I can't think of a specific singer, but if you search cursive singing, there are lots of examples - it involves not annunciating consonants. Lots of people seem to like it, but I personally find it a tad grating on the nerves. 🤨😬😅

    Paul Rudd does it as well. Ellen, Paul Rudd, Sarah Michelle Gellar, among many others, do this. I lived in LA for a few years and noticed it almost immediately. People say I now have an LA accent. Hopefully I'm not doing the whole "Crispy R" thing without realizing it! 🤐

    Probably cause we all pronounce our r's that we can tell the difference, but it's pretty rare I would say I've met less than 10 in my whole life and I'm from California

    I mean…yes. Listen to specifically how the “r” sounds compared to a regular “r”. Especially in the clip at the beginning, you can hear the difference Trixie makes although it’s exaggerated a bit for demonstration purposes.

    To make an R "crispy", the tip of your tongue goes higher and farther back in your mouth, almost touching the roof of your mouth. I think most English speakers keep the tip of their tongue more relaxed than that when they pronounce their R's.

    Im not quite grasping/hearing what a crispy R is. I dont get it. Maybe its because I'm from Massachusetts, and we have nonexistent R's. But it just sounds to me like people pronouncing their Rs normally. (Basically what I try to do as much as possible, until I get tie-id, and it stahts to slip out.) Whateva!!!!

    Sarah Michelle Gellar! I noticed it a lot while watching Buffy as a kid, I’ve always been interested in language and I remember being so fascinated by how she pronounced her Rs at times. Gets more pronounced as the series goes on, iirc.

    There's a linguist named Erik Singer that has several videos about accents that are a fun watch and he mentions in one that some people curl their tongue tip up when making the Sss sound and the rest curl the tongue tip down. I curl down. I think the upcurl is the one you're noticing. Or they might just have a bit of a lisp and the tongue point isn't curling at all.
