Absolutely great actor and I really do think he doesn't get enough credit

He does not get enough credit at all
Great role in True Detective season 1 as well. Great actor.
His fight scene with the fed in season 4 was one of the most brutal scraps ever.

There needs to be more of those fights in movies/TV instead of the fighting that looks like full contact dancing.

@@travisinthetrunk there's a great scene like that in deadwood, just RAW

Are you referring to the series Boardwalk Empire? I've never watched it and wondered.
Boardwalk was An excellent show with excellent acting.

I wanted it to continue sucked how it ended
Boardwalk empire is one of my favorite shows
I feel like he’s in almost every movie and show I watch and I love it
phenomenal actor. loved him in Perry Mason. 10001% underrated at his craft. also has one of the most random/funny parts in kong island haha
Hands down, unequivocally, without parallel, undoubtedly the best supporting actor in the business. Every project he's a part of is better for his having been a part of it. His only equal in terms of character actors, in my opinion, is the great Margo Martindale.
I remember seeing Shea Whigham for the first time in a microbudget crime picture at a film festival called South of Heaven. The movie is pretty good considering its obvious budgetary constraints, but it was instantly apparent that Whigham was gonna have a bright future. Like watching a talented player dominate at a Division II school and recognizing that they don’t belong in that league.

I know what you mean in both contexts. I saw Randy Moss and Chad Pennington play at West Point. Watching Moss, thinking, "who is this guy?" Because he was obviously trotting around at maybe 70% of his ability. Shea Whigham has that same thing. Sometimes you can see an actor excel around lesser actors but he seems to elevate or even the field with other actors. Not only does he not unbalance a scene but still draws you in.

@@seaninness334 Well Said! I totally agree!
One of the best actors out.
Eli was one of the best characters in that show!
such a great actor. man he needs bigger roles. the dude is a killer
That Scorsese Story...not gonna lie: somehow that made me a little misty eyed.
First saw him in Wristcutters, a very good under the radar film

Its literally my favorite movie. His character is so great.
Underrated but always dependable, this wonderful actor is another throwback to the talent of the 1970's and has that believability and presence that elevates any piece he's in.
Great, underrated actor.
One of the best actors that I’ve seen everywhere and don’t know who he is!
First time i saw him was in Tigerland with Collin Farrel and he was excellent.
He seems as cool as I always hoped he would be.
His daughter is also a pretty good actor. Pretty gifted, those two.
Such a good actor. His acting in Mission Impossible 7 was one of my favorite parts of the film. I really loved his presence in the series! Goofy, serious yet courageous. It was an all-in-one package! Super underrated!!
Wait…did he say they finished the next installment of Waco?! Fantastic!!

Great line. I gotta use that first chance I get!
love this guy's style. we cant ever see actors like him anymore in the next years. Boardwalk Empire is still the sh*t today! i wish he got more significant roles like he did with Eli
Take Shelter, Pride & Glory and Tigerland are all exceptional too.
I dont know if hes actually underrated or not but I've seen him in a few things, never heard anything about him, and was more than impressed with his performances. True Detective character was excellent.
When is Michael Shannon going to play as David Letterman in a film?
Needs to play Jeremy Renners dad in something
Also what a story man! What the hell the problem was is beyond me though why wouldn't they want him?
Makes a perfect older Batman. He was in The Joker so hes been in the universe would be with muscles great since hes only 4 years older than Affleck.
So what was the show Scorsese wanted to cast him in 10 years before Boardwalk Empire?

I just searched IMDb and I saw nothing that fits.🤷♂️
I love rich eisen and all these true or false segments. But please stop telling every single guest in the beginning “that’s our production value right there”. It was funny the first time and it’s really not bad at all.
Tjc I thinks it's awesome he went to school in the neck of my woods
He was great in Tigerland.
How did he get that accent coming from Tallahassee?
cool voice
What does he mean by "let him off the hook"? I've never heard that expression in regards to the context.
@skylinerunner1695

It means he took the time to let Scorsese know there were no hard feelings, that he shouldn't feel bad or blame himself since it was not his fault, but the studio wanted a bigger name.
He should have been a police chief...Chief Whigham.
Runnin’ jewels fast. Runnin’ runnin’ jewels fast.
I was there during the actual siege of the branch davidians. The show looked nothing like the real deal
