This is a great overview. We were on Equinox just this past January, it was great to see the ship again and recognize all of the spots you recorded. The one other complimentary eating spot is the Aqua Spa Cafe in the Solarium (though there are some items for charge like the Smoothies), but a great spot for a light breakfast in the morning. Love your videos!

Enjoyed this video! One added bonus to Celebrity - the main dinner dining menu has been the absolute best in quality and assortment. We find we don't even want to go to the specialty dining restaurants. Otherwise, we've only sailed with Seaborne and Holland America - Celebrity easily beats them in the main dining room.

Never been on Celebrity but they do boast a unique restaurant selection. Millennium used to have the A la Carte Restaurant from RMS Olympic and other ships has restaurants from the United States, Île de France, Normandie and more. While all the ocean liner themed restaurants were removed in 2015-2016, the Edge actually had the removed Normandie restaurant added to it, which means it is likely the Olympic one might return on a future vessel. Which I indeed hope so, I’ve had several friends whom dined on Millennium’s Olympic Restaurant and it was splendid!

We were devoted Celebrity fans since the Horizon; that all ended with the Edge class. In 30+ cruises the Edge was the only ship we couldn’t wait to get off of. It was cold, soulless and gimmicky. Hated Eden and that the Eden performers would come out of their lair and annoy people throughout the ship. I’d still consider a cruise on a Millennium class, though they became more homogenous and bland after the “Solsticeization” program, and I’ve heard they have changed things again since Edge came along. I view Celebrity as being pretentious now and departing from their strengths. Despite being near the top of the Captain’s Club program and suite travelers, Celebrity has certainly lost my loyalty and I will never be found on an Edge class ship again under any circumstances.

I remember Celebrity when the Chandris family owned it and you certainly didn’t pay extra for alternative dinning although there were only two alternative restaurants then. You only paid for alcoholic drinks not sodas, and tipping was at you discretion. It was then 5 star. Now if you go on a 20 day cruise you are looking at a $5000 basic extra bill just for packages. No tours or WiFi or casino or ship shopping.

Rick Steves did a mini series on tips for cruising, and he said that when you leave the ship, there’s a lot of different tour companies that meet the ship and you can choose from among them for shore excursions. He also said that you can also book a private tour guide. You don’t have to book the cruise line shore excursion.

Pretty simple, watch for specials. We got free (premuim) beverage package, free tips, free internet and $150 pp ship credit. Even at full price, that whole package is $310 pp. Do the math for and it's still ridiculously cheap. Book specialty dining early and you get any 3 restaurants for $109 pp. If you choose everything a la carte with no specials, then yes it will get pricey, just like the others. Premium beverage gets you EVERYTHING on the ship...specialty coffee, alcohol, etc.

Ships with capacity of 2800 passengers are not big ships but medium size. All deluxe cruise line ships built within the last 10 years are 3600+ passengers that actually can hold more because they are based upon double occupancy. Royal class Princess ships are stated at 3600 but can actually hold over 4000 if the triple and quad cabins on the ship are maxed out. Everybody is building bigger ships except the near and luxury ships because people want more to do on the ship and there are economies of scale with bigger ships, i.e. same size navigation and engineering staff.

Why the lines will find another way to de-struct your fair so that you might now pay for the space that you take up. After all the entire industry is based upon making the bottom line for the shareholders and alike. It is just he nature of the beast. If you want Perrier water and it costs the line $3.00 per bottle, if they can sell that to you for $36.00 they will. And why shouldn’t they. Remember “Buyer, Be Where.”

I have been on 10 Princess cruises and one Celebrity cruise. Here are a few comparisons which may help you. Princess has a lot more outdoor deck space if you love to walk around the outside of the ship. The decor on Celebrity is more modern than Princess and the food is better. Very much a drinking culture on Celebrity and a lot younger crowd, Princess is slower paced. The Atrium on Princess is huge and more imposing, the main area on Celebrity is small and gets very crowded as they tend to use it for games and sometimes for the dancers as well. Celebrity has too many specialty restaurants which they hassle you a lot to make a booking. The extra restaurants also take up a lot of room on the ship. The bar areas are very open and noisy on Celebrity and there is a lot of walk through traffic , unlike Princess which has specific small intimate bars across he ship. The cabins are nicer on Celebrity and they don’t have a shower curtain! The buffet section of the ship is better on Celebrity with a much larger choice and ceramic cups for tea and coffee, not plastic as on Princess. You can also make yourself takeaway coffees etc which was great. Entertainment was better on Celebrity. I found the service better on Princess, my concierge was the invisible man. Princess were much better organised in regards to dining as I never had to wait and always got a table for two. Celebrity closes one of the dining rooms till a later time and the shows finish earlier so you are left waiting for tables sometimes at least half an hour. The scheduling of entertainment and various events was poorly done at times on Celebrity. Enjoyed both lines for different reasons, would go on Celebrity again if there was a good sale or if you are destination orientated Princess is probably the way to go as it seems a bit cheaper.

IMTooShort2C Most cruisers on a line that isn’t carnival or royal are 60. Alaska cruisers are definitely older. It’s probably better to not be on a party boat or one for kids. If you’re concerned about age though I wouldn’t cruise. Adventures are cheaper and funner if you know what you’re doing. It sure is hard to justify my wife and I on a cruise for $4k a week when we can go to Thailand for 40 days for $3k total.. eat better food, experience amazing culture, and not feel couped up with little kids screaming and feeling like you’re living in an old folks home 🤪. Curious to see how Virgin changes the Premium Cruise ships as they won't charge you for gratuities and special dining options. Not sure about drink packages but that's extra on any ship (and only included in specialty resorts).

I'm currently using the "basic wifi" plan that I had to purchase on the cruise to text and have limited search options. This video won't play, but I can write a comment about my experience. Like everyone who sees the advertisement, I thought wifi was included. No... You will pay almost $300 for premium, and $138 for the bare basic for the whole 7 days. If you want premium for 1 hour, it's $24. For one hour. I'm not happy about it at all.

Great video Gary. I've cruised with a number of different lines and Celebrity is one of the best; however the biggest negative for me is the cost of alcoholic drinks. These are exorbitant compared to other lines and left me with the feeling of being ripped-off. Had one of the best steaks in my life at the lawn grill - highly recommended.

I just returned from my Celebrity Equinox cruise. A good job, mostly. One of the passengers died in the Casino. It made me wonder if Celebrity would want to offer a " Burial At Sea" option to passengers. Imaging. $1,000 if they just throw you overboard. $ 2,000 if they wrap you and hold a ceremony. $3,000 if the Captain presides and you get a 21 gun salute. Cruise lines are always looking to make money, right???

FYI, we sailed from Mexico to Honolulu. The first 2 days at sea were very chilly, even inside the ship. Thinking "Hawaii" we didn't take along a sweater or heavy shirts, and we wished we had. The shops onboard completely sold out of every type of sweatshirt, sweater, jackets within hours. We heard the ship's staff comment that it's always cold those first two days because of the cooler sea temps running along the west coast. Don't know if that's always the case, but if I were doing it again, I'd take some shirts to layer and maybe a fleece jacket. Comfort equals enjoyment!

I have just started cruising, and Celebrity (Edge/Apex) is a cruise line I would like to try. Is there a quintessential Celebrity cruise you would recommend? I want to do one transatlantic cruise in my life and can't afford the obvious choice (Grill in Cunard.) Does Edge/Apex seem like a good ship for that relative to others? (Ofc, this is just internet overengineering. If I just randomly selected a Celebrity, Oceania or Viking Ocean cruise, I bet whatever I got would be quite nice. Still, some are better fits than others.)

However, tips in this case are calculated based on demands made on the server (# drinks, # rooms) so it's reasonable more demands made = more tips earned. What I am totally pissed about is some restrictions on their excursions. For example, a Moderate excursion in Split, Croatia, for example, has an age restriction of 70. I am not 70 but my husband is and he is an active 70 year old person. This is an excursion I wanted to go on. I will be looking at outside vendors for sure... And trust me, Princess and Viking have the SAME tour and they have no age restriction. I know it's a third party thing, but come one Celebrity/Royal, get your act together... The 70's is the new 50's !!!!!! 😡😡 What do you think?
