In germany there is the "Erntedankfest". It's an old tradition to celebtrate the harvest. It literally means "harvest thanking celebration". It was even embraced by the Reformation in Europe and got to America with the first Pilgrims. Thats where Thanksgiving comes from. The Erntedankfest is still celebrated in a lot of smaller villages and cities, especially in protestant communities.

Not exactly. We in the United States talk about Thanksgiving and its connection to pilgrims eating with the native Americans. But in reality nobody really celebrated Thanksgiving until it was declared a holiday by Abraham Lincoln. And even then it didn't gain popularity till even later. So nobody really knows why Thanksgiving became a thing in the United States. Other than people like packing their face with food.

We have Thanksgiving. It was on the 4. October this year. Its called "Erntedankfest" and we usually give thanks about specificially the Harvest from the year. At that time we donate a lot whats left from the harvest to the church and it gets decorated in the church. After the service people are free to take some of it and the rest we will donate to homeless people mostly. It isn't that huge in Germany anymore though sadly.

Hi there, great vlogs. Thanks! As a German-American born in south-east Asia and raised in Jamaica, now living in Germany, I'd like to think that I share your "broader perspective" of our earth. Especially enjoy the enthusiasm you show in wanting your sisters to experience your love of Germany. 😊 Some literal "brotherly love" to be seen there! Haha (I'm an older brother myself) They seem great, BTW. Though I did worry about you force-feeding them too many German candies at one point. Haha. Anyways, all the best to you, though you don't seem to need it (940k subscribers is nuts, dude!! Awesome! ). The religious afterthoughts are strong and perhaps a little heavy on the sales-pitch side of "join the winning team". I understand and respect your belief, but seeing where all you've been and all the cultures you've experienced, I am surprised to see that your spectrum has remained where it is. I, myself, have dealt with every race, religion, culture. Verdict: None. Whom am I, as just a man, to judge others?! 🤔 And whom are men, to try to speak the word of God? Try asking him that...haha. He/she would face-palm, I think. I know this is out there, but that's my personal belief. I believe if anyone's out there, he would embrace all religions and be quite disappointed by our progress of togetherness. Shoot, I've been rambling...haha. Sorry. One last thing: there was an anti-vaccine message in one of your videos, put forth by a sister. Saying that "the Lord" will guide us might be true for her and hers, but how can she speak for the other 9/10ths of the human race....is that not selfish and hence against her belief? Would she not help her brother/neighbor by taking the vaccine if they believe in it? And how is science going against God, seeing that he gave us this ability to achieve grand things? Many complex thoughts. Give it one or two. :) All the best

95% of the grafitti is just somenones art. The other 5% are soccer club grafittis! I´m sure you´ve seen some VFB grafittis. But grafitti in germany has nothing to do with gangs.

In Germany, Gangs like the US has don't really exist. We have a crime rate that's a lot lower than the US. Unfortunately, we do have Criminal family clans, especially in Berlin, and there is also a bit of Mafia, but chances are high that you will live your entire life in Germany and will never encounter any sign of that because it is very hidden and Germany is a very safe country. The street art / graffiti are mostly by artists and have nothing to do with criminal gangs, mostly they are by individuals. There is good graffiti, like the ones you pointed out, that is often not removed by the city because they respect the art. But there is also a lot of graffiti that is just obscene, penises or swear words under bridges and so on. This is very frowned upon in the German society and in the art circles as well. The graffiti on the side of the train is absolutely not ok, it's rioting and damaging DB property, but unfortunately happens a lot

Gravy: this reminds me of my time I was working for the U.S. Army in Böblingen as a German local national. The dining facility was used by both, U.S. Army soldiers and German local nationals; they also had German and U.S. chefs. The U.S. chefs have thrown away the roast juice and have made an instant gravy using chemicals. The German chefs have used the roast juice to make the gravy. Guess which has tasted better.

This reminds me of an encounter with a bunch of US servicemen in Stuttgart in 1983. They took me to the barracks in Ludwigsburg and at 3 a.m. they switched on tv and there was a show called "Solid Gold" running. I was shocked that you can watch tv at night. In Germany they shut down tv at around midnight in those days. Good memories hanging around at the barracks - not only because of "Solid Gold".

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum! O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, du kannst mir sehr gefallen. O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, dein Kleid will mir was lehren: die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit giebt Trost und Kraft zu jeder Zeit! O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, dein Kleid will mir was lehren.
