The mention of Belle being a daughter figure makes me wonder how she'd feel about Sage and vice versa. If Sage ever makes it to the comics in the first place.

Five years already. This is my introduction when it came to Sonic comics. It’s not perfect, but it is golden!

I still think killing off Starline was a waste. He was probably the most interesting villain of the bunch aside from Eggman himself. With his willingness to improve on himself, his scientific genius and his utter ruthlessness, he had so much untapped potential. He could have become a great recurring villain, second to, if not even equal to Eggman himself. But they used him up too fast. I do hope they bring him back one day, maybe in Issue 100, if the comic survives that long...

Well, Ian Flynn *did* state that if fan demand was high enough, they could more than likely bring him back sometime in the future. Then again, that is if this comic survives for that long.

It could be worse; they could ignore a whole slew of perfectly decent characters from the previous comics and start from scratch solely because they are hawk-eyed watch over Sega of Japan.......oh wait....

​@@HEMPHILL23 Unlike the whole Starline-thing, that's not the writers fault. It's not "solely because they are hawk-eyed watch over Sega of Japan". That's a big factor, sure, but there is also the whole matter of copyright: All the non-game characters from Archie don't belong to Sega of Japan. For example, there are three different owners to the Freedom Fighters: Sega of America for the pre-Reboot Freedom Fighters, the post-Reboot ones belong to Archie Comics and the SatAM ones are owned by Wildbrain. Plus, all the characters, over 200 including Julie-Sue, Sourge and many other fan favorites, that didn't appear post-SGW are owned by Ken Penders and other writers that left Archie before Penders. And we all know what happened there. The writers literally can't use any character Sega doesn't allow them to use. And if they were, that comic would not see the light of day due to Sega's tight grip on the comics. They could, of course, use the ones owned by Sega of America as well as the rest if they were to buy the license for them. But only Sega of Japan, being the heads of the franchise, can make that decision. And the formers case won't happen because they, for some unknown reason, seem to hate the Freedom Fighters while in the latters case, after the mess with Penders, they don't want to use characters they don't own 100% (which, unlike how it was with Archie, is now the case with IDW). Tl; Dr: Unlike the Starline-thing, that whole thing is on Sega of Japan, not the writers.

I hope that eventually, the IDW timeline will play into the events of Sonic Frontiers.

There was a prologue comic setting up the beginning of Sonic Frontiers. While I’d love to see Sage appear in the comics, I’m very curious as to how the writers will implement Sage into the comics in a way that feels natural and not forced. Maybe a time skip a year later could justify this? Either way, I’d love to see how she would interact with characters like Shadow, Silver, Metal Sonic, and others, in the IDW comics.

Five years, a lot can happen, and IDW Sonic is amazing & the future is promising at this time. Sally Acorn and/or Sticks the Badger might not be in it, but the ride is real good.

What Eggman said about Metal Sonic, wanting to become a threat again after the Heroes defeated and disarmed him back in the first story arc. If his presence hadn't triggered Eggman's memories then Starline probably would've picked up where Eggman left off as the main villain akin to Snively Robotnik from Sonic Satam and the Archie comics, with Metal working for him instead.

Man, I still remember how excited I was back in 2018 when this was first announced. Been on board with it ever since. ❤

You know "Hammer Guy" makes the third time Sonic has directly inspired a red furred nameless citizen into becoming heroes in their own right. With the other two being the wolf Avatar from Sonic Forces and "Barry" the Quokka from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. He also called them "Buddy" at one point or another.

A Great Comic Series and along with the movie got me back into the franchise. I hope the Idw sonic comics keep producing more issues bc it’s such a love letter to the sonic series overall

Great job with this recap. Could you make a video talking about Sonic Satam(e.g Review of whole show, favourite episodes , episode reviews etc), since it's that show's 30th Anniversary.

Everything in the franchise is going great. From games, movies, tv, and other media. Let us hope our blue boy keeps up the momentum.

Sonic World has always been Earth. It was just lost in translation. Iizuka said two worlds he mean two sides like the human side and the mobile's side. Love your videos .

Ok so it is all one big world rather than two separate worlds, still wanna see human characters getting involved soon. An Story Arc involving G.U.N would be a good place to start.

The comics exploring aspects of the franchise like G.U.N, and other human characters would be better if a future game followed suit.

Regarding the comics being cannon to the games, weather future issues will coincide with future games he yet to be seen. Granted it may be a challenge for the writers to implement newer characters, like Sage, and more recent events into the comics, I’d still love to see how she’d interact with the larger cast. Still, when asked if the IDW comics are cannon to the games, Ian gave a vague answer. Essentially, he’d said that the comics can be cannon to the games, if no elements within the comics clash with the continuity of the games. Which, if you think about it, is more for fans to decide. Writers have their outlines to follow, but how the comics may relate to the games and line up with continuity, is also for Sega to decide and choose.

I don't understand why people are worried about IDW Sonic ending, The Archie comics lasted 25 years, they did sell well, even in the "mid" era. Sonic is in IDW's top 5 best selling comics, so i don't think it will end. Even if it does end, the comics are canon to the games, so if the comics do end, the stories will follow in the games.

Sure is interesting how long IDW SOnic lasted so far, as I assume that around 75 or 100 could be the grand finale and also the fact that IDW & Prime are in the same canon of the games, I assume we're getting a new chapter soon, and how Sonic 3 Film will be.

Ian is now part of the Sonic lore management group and he stated on his podcast that IDW is now considered Canon unless it contradicts the games (so sort of how the EU at Star Wars use to work) And do to his new role do people take him rather serious on this statment As for Prime did its executive Producer state during an interview towards its release that its canon to the video games and Sonic Team lead Takashi Iizuka mentioned before that in a Japanese interview that unlike Sonic boom will Prime not gain a game adaption with the reasoning that its already plays in the world of modern Sonic heavily implying its also canon. My personal opinion is that I'm not happy with ether being canon (I dislike it for Prime far more for IDW at least so far) but what I just said is the current answers we have to the question of there canonicity.

@@rynobehnke8289 Iizuka said Prime would be based on Modern Sonic, but he did not outright confirm that it was canon. Sometimes, just because a Sonic project features something like, dunno, Modern Sonic, it does not make it canon. And regarding Prime not having a game adaptation, well, it was already using the game universe as a starting point and SEGA does want to avoid a Rise of Lyric scenario. Also, Sonic Prime is set in the Shatterverse and tells its own story, Logan confirmed that, and making it canon to the games would be hardcore restrictive. SEGA needs to reconsider what they are trying to do, without backtracking on ending the two worlds system & the Classic-Modern split. A unified universe is fine, but bringing all the mediums closer together goes way too far and causes glaring obvious problems.

@@59rlmccormack I mean Iizuka's word on its own isn't confirmation but in combination with Logan saying "its all canon" does it draw a pretty clear picture. The Shatterverse isn't even a unique place the promotion as well as basic analyse of the show so far make it rather obvious that its the result of Sonic's main universe being shattered along side the Paradox Prism and fallowing that are all alt versions of the characters just splintered peaces of there full regular selfs. So it being set in the "Shatterverse" means nothing for this point. I could also add that Ian ones again on his podcast said that Prime is sorta canon and Sega just gave the green light without thinking things through and the lore team is now attempting to figure out how it fits. Yes I do agree that Sega needs to be more careful to what retcons there are doing and what material they want to consider being canon. But this unfortunately doesn't mean that they will. As I already wrote I dislike the idea that Prime and the comics are canon precisely because they would cause 10 million lore issues.

I'M TOTALLY DISAGREE.

IDW has simplified the characters, doesn't care to focus on anyone other than sonic and new characters to the point of making Amy not be a hero just to forces a new character to be, and instead of actually being back robotizing they make a stupid unnecessary robot plague that removes combat, because there can't be any, and calls it what is most stupid and unnecessary thing possible! Also most events and thing don't get explain. So this is a downgrade to the mediocre of game sonic in so many ways!
