Celebrate BELTANE the Mayday Witch's Sabbat || Part Two

This is Part two of the series looking at the Mayday feast on Beltane - although you don't have to watch part one to understand this. This is celebrating the light half of the year, and is primarily a sun and a flower festival. The Romans had the goddess Flora, the Germans Ostara, we have a the wonderfully pagan Mayday celebrations centred around the spiral dance, sexual union and flowers. This is my favourite of the witch sabbats, as it really is pure joy as well as a wonderful spectacle for all.
Watch part one of this Beltane series is here:

I washed my face in the dew before dawn on May day morning, I was about ten years old and wearing Elizabethan costume (don’t ask) Our postman saw me walking of the mist like an apparition, he wobbled on his bike 😂 I was an very odd little girl 👧 😊

I will be taking my daughter to a may day celebration in a couple of weeks, my mum and sister will be coming. It'll be my first time and we're all quite excited!! It is with our local grove of druids who hold celebrations for many of the years celebrations at our famous Beacon Hill in Leicestershire. 🌸💃💚

As another poster mentioned, I also remember dancing around the maypole in California at school. I remember how the ribbons wove a design around the pole.

I remember participating in dancing around a may pole as a child in California, but I don't remember how that came about. Either through my very neat charter school, or girl scouts. Either way, it really stuck with me as being a lovely experience. I asked my sister, and it was at school. She remembered because my teacher was named Mr. May.

You are delightful! Loved this. In the late 1960's, when I was in 2nd grade, we did art projects for May Day. We were taught it was about celebrating May flowers. This was in the US. I never really understood all of it until now. 😂😂

When I was in grade school in the early seventies it was tradition in the schools for the kids to pair up boy to girl and dance the maypole. It was such fun and I remember it well even though it was over 50 years ago. 😊

I wish I could remember more about the teacher that coordinated that.... There's a good chance she might have been just a little bit witchy. 😁This was in the US in the state of Oregon.. The pattern that we wove with the colored streamers was quite intricate and we practiced it, several times, before we did it in front of the school and all the parents and family that were invited to our festivities. I remember we brought the streamers down and then we untied it and laid them down with great reverence. What a wonderful memory thank you for reminding me of it.

It all sounds lovely. Hawthorne doesn't grow around here, but I'll be watching for Wild Plum blossoms.

Hi Ginny, We have almost the same celebration in Philippines called Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May) where young ladies paraded with flower decorations and beautiful gowns, it was one of the most awaited parade. It was surprising to know that this activity relates to Beltane because the Roman Catholic supported the Flores de Mayo parade. ❤😊

In our village of Flore, the school celebrates May Day with Maypole dancing and festivities. All my children took part when they were young. Sadly, never on May Day...usually a week or two later.

Same! I was born and raised in FL, and no one cares. I still decorate with flowers and fairies, and get up for the sunrise. After that, just make it a day of personal celebration. Buy yourself some flowers, or do yourself a May day luncheon with a delicious spring salad and spring fruits or desserts. Whatever you do, ENJOY! 💐🪷🌼🍎🍐🍇🥗🍰🍹🥂
