Cedar Planter Boxes // How To Make

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Makers Mob 99¢ Summer Sale: rlnk.cc/summersalefrankmakes
In my latest woodworking project, I wanted to help out two friends of mine that own a restaurant. For this project build, they asked me to make some outdoor planter boxes that would help divide a new outdoor seating area. These outdoor Cedar planter boxes ended up being 8' long, 13" wide and about 2' tall. I made the planter boxes from 2" thick Cedar. I put 2 pieces together to make the height for the sides of the planter boxes and I mitered the corners and used glue, biscuits and metal brackets to hold the planters together. Overall this was a great woodworking project that I really enjoyed building, and I hope that it will help you make your own set of outdoor planter boxes.

To get glue all the way through a crack like that, just pool the glue on the surface and use a shop vac to pull it through from the underside. You can get glue through the tightest of gaps in just a few seconds that way without needing to open them up first.

I was thinking more in terms of blowing with an airline. I also have a set of disassembled feeler gauges in my toolbox that I use for this - the 6 thou gauge is stiff enough to push glue into a crack providing you open the crack a wee bit. BTW I mainly use the feeler gauges to adjust tool height on a metal lathe as we don't have a British tool post (with the screw height adjustment).

@@richbuilds_com I expect Bill Gates started out the same way. I am old enough to remember when he was working to create an OS for IBM, and reading about it every month in Guy Kewney's column in PC World. We had no idea back then that Bill Gates and Microsoft would go on to be bigger than the monolithic IBM. Looking at Bill's Wikipedia page now, it seems that he had the foresight back then to make good business decisions. I don't think it is mentioned on the Wikipedia page, but I remember relations between Bill and IBM being extremely strained. We look forward to reading about you making our first billion dollars Richard.

if you get pipe clamps and have say multiple 6 foot long pipe segments, you can use a threaded coupler to put two lengths of pipe together and then attach the clamps to the ends of the double long pipe. I've only needed it once so far but its nice to have the option without having to buy dedicated extra long clamps which would be even worse to store, not to mention the cost. The coupler costs a buck or two at the hardware store.

Let your friends know they should put some mulch on top of the dirt. If the wind ever picks up while people are eating the topsoil has a tendency to blow around. It's always a good idea for when it rains, this way it won't splash mud everywhere. We had something like that in one of the kitchen I worked for, I put mulch down because people were complaining.

Somewhere along the way, I ran across a manual for a very old tool that recommended putting glue on the top of the crack and using a shop vac to pull the glue into the opening. I've only done this once since learning this trick, but holy crap, it was much _much_ more effective. /me mental note about checking out Oak and Olive before I move to Hillsboro.
