CDC: Tips From Former Smokers - Christine B.: I Have to Quit

Christine started smoking in high school to fit in and continued to smoke menthol cigarettes for many years. She was diagnosed with oral cancer in her early 40s. She lost her teeth and had half of her jaw removed. In this video, Christine talks about the moment when she finally realized the effects of smoking-year after year and cigarette after cigarette-and decided to quit.

Instead of showing videos of fake lungs to school children, videos like this should be shown, because the younger generation cares about looks and seeing that that would happen if they smoked would terrify them

And it's what could happen to them, it depends on how long you smoke. You don't look like this woman did for smoking a few cigs here and there.

Smoked for 14 years, starting at 16 years old. I quit 4 & 1/2 years ago and never looked back. It can be done, and the *ONLY* way is 100% cold turkey and having the nerve NOT TO BUY ANYMORE.

I'm an asthmatic, I tried smoking once during an occasion. I was very drunk at that time, all I felt was a spicy feeling in my chest and left me a minty expression on my throat. Three days passed and I was rushed to the hospital, transported by an ambulance because I was already lacking oxygen, high fever of 40.3C, and a chest full of phlegm. What I learned that day was: I can have several memorable experiences, but don't do stupid decisions.

I’m not supporting smoking but it’s too large to ban it, and the people saying it’s population control and the government; do they not know the CDC is a part of the government? Same one that has been making countless anti smoking ads

My father stopped smoking 2 1/2 years ago and switched it to vape. Today, I found him smoking in hiding in my parents room. He didn't see me but I noticed he had a cigarette in his hand. I began to doubt everything my father tells me and I don't think my mother knows he's smoking again. I'm quite disappointed and sad about all this and I'm starting to think I'm getting trust issues (i also have anxiety).

Please do not be too hard on him or take his actions personal. it is the power of nicotine. Remember, he very well may have quit but returned temporarily. It takes several attempts to quit for good. Each time you get closer and closer until one day you can do it cold turkey. That was my experience and the experience of many people. Be patient and he will come around and be able to break the habit! :)

I smoked as well and I have not had a cigarette in 10 years. However, cold turkey is not for everyone. Every smoker has to find their own way to quit for good. I tried cold turkey and the withdrawal was insurmountable, so I went to my doctor and we worked out a plan. I hate the smell of smoke to this day and I am a testimony that it can be done.

I quit smoking by cutting down an not smoking in my home and then i stopped, no patches no nothing as i believe some of these things what are meant to help really don't....they just replace. I found the 1st 2 weeks the very worse and keeping busy and hands moving and mind focused on something helps. I would love a smoke after my dinner etc so i stopped sitting down for a smoke, i got up an cleaned till i was so tired i just wanted to sleep....it really did work for me. Smoking takes up so much time i realised also.

Awww poor beautiful lady i just want to hug her... I can only imagine the pain to see your own sons reaction after something like this. God bless her. This video made me cry. I'm using smokeless tobacco swedish Snus. It's not as bad as smoking and chewing tobacco but it just cant be healthy to have tobacco in your mouth most of the day.. Made me kinda worried. At least i cut smoking out of my life a couple years ago. Anyway awsome channel i just found it , i will subscribe. Much Love / TITO

One month tobacco free yesterday and I got to have my new cardiologist change my chart to non-smoker. Problem: I'm already compromised. After 25 years-even as a lighter and outside only smoker, the damage is done. Right now it is finding out which it is: heart, lungs, both.

When I first saw this commercial, it really hurt my heart skipping a few beats when he showed that woman’s face after having her jaw removed due to a tumor which grown on her face within because they shown pictures of her even when she had the tumor living in her jaw before it was removed because this Is what happens when you smoke for so many years.

Is she still around? I knew this woman, back in 1969 when cigarette commercials were STILL on TV, I was visiting in this hospital and this woman DID NOT quit, she was still smoking, from a hole in her throat! A few weeks later, when visiting again that woman's elderly mother had come to see her, and she soon became very upset when she realized her daughter had already died in bed! She looked fiftyish and wasn't moving anymore (at this time I was 13.) The only cigarettes I ever had, when I was 9 to 10 years old were CANDY cigarettes (at 10 cents a pack they were quite tasty). No, I'll have nothing to do with the real kind.

To be honest I never found the appeal to smoking cigs I stayed in Europe for a about a month and smoked almost every day when I was there. I came back to Canada i haven't bought a pack of cigarettes since just because i didn't want to. Maybe i did it in Europe because I was on vacation at the time. But I dont know I was never addicted to it. I guess other people have different coping methods.
