CD V-700 Survey Instrument Overview

Ғылым және технология

The CD V-700 radiation survey meter is a sensitive low-range instrument that can be used to measure gamma radiation and detect beta radiation. It is recommended for monitoring of personnel, food and water when used in a shielded facility or an area of low radiation background, and for follow-up monitoring of areas for human habitation and food production. Please feel free to comment or ask questions. Thanks for watching!

Great video! Would like to add just a few things if I may.The battery clips are sharp and can cut the thin wrap on the outside of the batteries causing a short. This will burst the batteries if not caught in time. And even with the batteries out of the unit the capacitors still hold a charge unless shorted out with something with a INSULATED handle. And last they did make a gm tube with a lower sensitivity by a factor of 10. Fur use in more contaminated areas but you will pay for them now. :)

Survey meter is a general term. Geiger counters are a type of survey meter. The other type uses an ionization chamber to detect radioactive particles.

@The99REBEL Yes, I have a lot of uranium and it detects it very easily. It's best to have the slide/window open as uranium and a number of it's decay products give off beta radiation or a weak gamma ray.

Nice demonstration! Gotta love the old CD V-700s! I have a Victoreen model 6A, and it works great! It's calibrated, too! I'd love to get a Ludlum too, probably a model 12, but unfortunately they're a little too pricey for me . . .

@thecooldude9999 It's a survey meter. There are many types of survey meters. "Geiger" refers to the type of detector employed by this instrument. Some survey instruments have scintillation detectors, others ionization chambers, and others Geiger Mueller (GM) detectors.

Looks just like mine (CDV-700 6B) and the Serial Number is 38,000 higher than yours. My test strip peaked at 2.5 to 3.0 and the Headphone works. May have to return to the Trinity Site with this "New" old instrument . Has a Cal. sticker from July '92... Thank you for the video ! tjl

you can make any of these CD Geiger counters sense alpha radiation if you replace the sensor.... but you need a repair skill of about 45...... and a sensor module.... and some scrap electronics

I got one from eBay. Seller said it worked. My counter pegs out as soon as I turn it on and pegs faster in the x10 and x1 positions. What does this means. Is the tube broken?

It could be any number of things. You could have a bad probe, short in the cable, or the electronics in the instrument could be bad.

Maybe try putting a piece of duct tape over it to contain any of the stuff that is likely flaking off. I've seen them do that before and the little piece of metal under the foil (the source) is breaking apart. The tape will help contain everything and make it so you can still use the check source.

You shouldn't open it up and you shouldn't sleep with it right next to you, but other than that it is very safe. It is very weak - about the same as some minerals.

Just don't eat it :) It would not be possible to get radiation sickness from the check source on the side of the instrument. Most of the check sources, under the little foil sticker on the side, are either radium or depleted uranium. The amount of material there is not enough to pose an external hazard. You can get a little more info on the check sources here www.orau.org/ptp/collection/civildefense/checksources.htm
