First saw Gerald Wilson and his big band performing in the ballroom of the UCLA student union in spring of 1961 during Mardi Grau, an annual spring carnival in those days. It was a moment of truth.

I was a true fan of Gerald Wilson also I would not miss buying every LP for my collection of jazz over many years as I really enjoyed his jazz Latin sounds and his uptempo sounds. His teachings to bands taught many new musicians and band leaders in sound even Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, Dizzy Gillespie was listen to his outstanding sounds that he produced to the human ear. He lead the whole industry in some of the first big band stereo sounds of a big band as well in recordings. He was the Father of Latin Jazz Music His sound will live with us as a high mark in music history.

What a magical moment in Jazz!! Thanks for the opportunity to see the legendary composer and arranger Gerald Wilson conduct his big band arrangements with the CCM Jazz Ensemble. It's just as if the music from my Gerald Wilson Orchestra LP's have come alive here at this live concert, which I had the good fortune to attend in Cincinnati Ohio.

Thank you, Scott. I saw GW at the Catalina some years back before he passed. Truly a music treasure as is this band. A kick-ass band playing kick-ass arrangements and I can't say anything more complimentary than that. Jazz lives!

@@phyllishinton9377 Oh wow that's all so interesting, thanks for writing. And how amazing that you actually talked to Gerald Wilson on the phone. I've enjoyed his music for years too. I got to know more about such musicians when I moved to the USA in 1999 and started listening to the local jazz station here in LA. Well, I could chat away, haha, but anyway...fun to read your message, thanks !
