CCC LET - Heil Formula 4000 Garbage Truck

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here is the next installment of adventures with SSC, this time featuring one of their commercial rear loaders! This single-axle Crane Carrier Co. Low-Entry Tilt (LET) cab and chassis is paired up with a mid-sized Heil Formula 4000 rear load body is the perfect size for navigating the narrow alley ways, crowded parking lots, and tight apartment complexes that make up this commercial route. The Formula 4000's quick packing cycles and kick-bar easily keep up with the 1- and 2-yard dumpsters with ease. The most unique feature of this truck is the cart tipper assembly. A Bayne Thinline Taskmaster cart tipper is affixed to a custom frame work below the hopper sill. When it's time to empty a dumpster, this whole assembly is raised up by two hydraulic cylinders, folding up over the hopper, and out of the way of the kick-bar and hopper sill. This allows the cart tipper to be installed without having to make any permanent modifications to the kick-bar or hopper sill. I was able to catch this truck handling a very well-rounded variety of stops from a number of different angles, which I think made for one of my best videos to-date! I am quite proud of how this one turned out, and I hope you all enjoy it too!
As always, a huge thank you goes out to this very friendly, dedicated and hard-working driver!

I'm thinking I've watched this before, or maybe it was Alan's video, but it really is the perfect-looking truck and very pleasing to watch. 6:03 was a wicked angle on this one, I actually took like three screenshots for my own amusement to save that view.. so cool. and needless to say I think many of us would happily cross behind the hopper to run the packer after every two carts if it meant driving this truck. what a cool route. and speaking of carts, I've long thought that SSC is the only hauler with any business buying EVRIIs. since their old carts boast the same font spelling out "SSC," the EVRIIs just look like the up to date version of all their square toters.. rather than the bland, everywhere cart model that they actually are. plus everything they have works stunningly well with those cylinder tippers, and the 7000s have soft touch grippers, yada yada. anyway, awesome production of a one-of-a-kind company which I do love..

Flickr whet my appetite for this truck now a full length vid! Love LET1s, big fan of the Formula 4000 especially with a kick bar so all the basic stuff is covered. But like so many SSC trucks the details really make it. All the little bits on the truck show a lot of thought went into putting it together, something we see the least of in 20 yd mid range RLs which are usually as off the shelf as you can get. Fuel tank/battery box/tire chain placement, nice wide shop-made ladder to get into the clean out door, spray brushes on all four corners, dig the turn signals at eye level on the side of the hopper, and most glaringly that cart tipper. Seems to me if you were to go through all the effort to fold the thing away you'd at least use one of those fat high dump style tippers like the MarBorg 5000s. Otherwise might as well just add the usual bit of hopper extension and tweak the kick bar as needed for clearance. Still very very cool as is. Neat to see the whole assembly sway as he uses the cart tipper plus looks like it sets the tipper out a teeny bit from the hopper making latching carts onto it a bit easier. Not like those Thinlines have a huge pickup envelope so getting them just right saves a lot of pain. Lifting the heavier stuff up onto the latch gets annoying. Like food waste carts, glass and such. Not sure if it works with the angle the whole thing rotates at but looks like you might be able to make small adjustments moving the height of the whole cart tipper to adjust for uneven ground. Wouldn't have chosen to split the controls the way they did with the packer and kick bar on the usual curbside but cart tipper and tipper frame lift on the streetside but I can see why they did it that way, they used the holes in the side of the hopper and the stock linkages to the valve body provided for opposite side packer controls for a really clean stock looking installation. Like I said, details. The Crane Carrier looks pretty as ever on both sides, have equal love for the regular and bi-fold doors and luckily we get both here. As a driver might prefer bi fold on both sides though and just keep them open all day. Unbeatable visibility and maximum fun. :D It's the ideal chassis for a job like this. I'm regularly impressed with where you can fit one of these on an International 4900, with the low cab forward you can probably get in even closer to keep distance to walk out carts or push out dumpsters to a minimum (like the stop at 2:32 and 3:48?). The Formula 4000 is underrated. Hopper just big and heavy enough for commercial duty, packs fast enough not to slow you down, simple, cheap, reliable. In tandem with the Crane's short wheel base the short rear overhang let's you get into the tighter spots pretty easily. Getting 8.5 tons on our tired abused 20 yd (granted with a bunch of restaurant stops) isn't hard. And that's leaking probably another half ton of garbage juice through the route. Yet those Southern Californians and others are putting 9 legally on their tandem 40 yd front loaders. I know which I'd choose.

Beautiful clean truck, very nice colouring. I imagine this is a bit of an older unit judging by the flatter shape of the sweep blade, looks good for the age it must be. When I saw this on Flickr I couldn't get my head around those red cylinders and the steel frame they supported, but now I know! Very interesting set-up to totally lifter the cart tipper out of the way, never seen something like it before, I figure it's something unique to this truck and/or company? Funny he has to walk between the left and right sides to run the tipper and packer haha Not so bad that it takes a couple of seconds, benefit of the dual lever pack control he doesn't have to worry about the cart getting sliced by the packer on the down stroke still inside the hopper. Mad quick work of those steel bins, threw them up and dropped them down quick like all kick bars seem to dominate in doing so. Loved the aggressive action with the smaller (I think) 1yd dumpster trunnions hit the top of the latches and slam down against the hopper edge - probably a favourite aspect of kick bar work :D What a gun pack cycle... open, down, closed and up in no time, very smooth hydraulic operation as well. Something I really enjoy about the 4000 is the slide panel moving in/outwards as the sweep operates, don't really see anything else like it out there. Great job as per usual, well done!
