As a curiosity, the phrase "Empire on which the sun never sets" was originally used for the Spanish Empire, which was the largest in territories of its time, and also present on all continents, not for the British. The British, who were the ones who inherited the world from the Spaniards and even made their Empire larger than the Spanish Empire, started using that phrase too.

@@maxdavis7722 both Russia and ottomans weren't bigger at Spain's peak, which was around the end of the 16th century, Russia still had a long way to surpass it and the ottomans were the biggest in their region, but were not a global empire, like was the Iberian union.

As a brit, people really underestimate the historical size of the British empire.

@@sgg6643 Not actually. The Napoleonic France would be a little smaller (without Croatia and some not connected to main France territories). Russian Empire would be without Alaska and Manchuria. Mongolian Empire on the other hand would be as big as we imagine it, because of the time context. So, yeah most of empires are probably as big as we imagine. But colonial empires aren't that big

Not Including islands is weird, cause then it means that any island country only actually owns its capital island, which makes zero sense. The best definition of if your in a country or not is if you are considered a citizen if you are from there. I believe this to be the most fair definition

Well, it is such an empire, only because it acquired Gibraltar from the War of the Spanish Succession that is coincidentally antipodal to New Zealand. Without the antipode, the British Empire still wouldn't be an empire in which the sun never sets. You can have an empire that covers the entire Western Hemisphere (excluding the poles) that isn't an empire in which the sun never sets, and you can have a Planck area-sized region in an empire that only consists of that and the antipode of that region of 1 Planck area being an empire in which the sun never sets. Therefore, size is not what matters, it's the antipodes that really matter. Also, the Antipodes Islands were originally planned to be a permanent uninhabited British territory just in case of Britain collapses through decolonization, so it can still be an empire in which the Sun never sets, but it wasn't really a true antipode after all, if only those islands were shifted 50 km south...

I like the ending it's my favorite part and the video is a 100 percent good (my opinion).
