BTW the announcer here is longtime CBS staff announcer Allan Berns, who is probably best known as being the long-time announcer for the soap opera Guiding Light, from 1966-1997

That's great!!

I always loved that CBS Special Presentation intro. When we were kids , before video , you could only see "The Wizard of Oz" once a year. The wicked witch of the west scared the piss out of me when I first saw it , but , then , I decided she looked pretty cool.

@Gentlem the wicked witch of the West was played by Margaret Hamilton in real life she was a very nice lady...if you remember she played Cora in the Maxwell House coffee commercials in the ' 60s and '70s...I hope you will reply to this

My niece and I would always watch this with the sound muted while listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" as The Dark Side of The Rainbow. That whole album goes well with the visuals especially on "The Great Gig In The Sky" which fits perfectly during the tornado scene.

This is my all time favorite movie. I remember seeing bits and pieces of it when my family visited my grandparents in Alabama, when I was about five years old. I didn't watch the whole thing, then, it was late, and I was sleepy. But I got interested in it, and my parents bought the 50th anniversary edition of the VHS in 1989. And even though I had the option of watching it whenever I wanted, without commercials, I still would watch it on TV almost every year.

Something about tv broadcasts, they bring back our youth!

Tonight a CBS Special presentation "The Wizard of Oz"! "The Dukes of Hazzard" will return 2 weeks from tonight, and DALLAS will return next week. This portion of "The Wizard of Oz" sponsored by Pepsi: The Choice of a New Generation.

This brings back so many memories, good and bad. I loved to see it when they aired it on Thanksgiving Eve when I was a kid. Then they switched to February in 1988. I was recording it on my brand spanking new Emerson VCR to watch after work. Around 8:30 I received a call that my Grandfather had passed away. I didn't feel like watching the movie afterwards and recorded over it. That was the only year I didn't watch TWOZ on TV.
