An ongoing CBP operation recently identified an illegal vehicle coming into the country. An importer tried to avoid paying the appropriate duties and bypass environmental standards by altering the true lineage of a Land Rover Defender, at the port of Baltimore. By manipulating the VIN and other parts of the vehicle, the importer rendered the vehicle an illegal product for entry. It did not make it onto the U.S. roads. U.S. Customs and Border Protection works in close partnership with multiple Federal agencies to ensure the safety of consumer products entering our country.
