CB750 - making up the new HT leads (spark plug wires)

During the inspections on the ignition system on this Classic Honda 4 cylinder motorcycle we found so many issues, including, but by no means limited to, open circuit plug caps, damaged HT leads, suspect coils & way more faults within the wiring loom to mention so the owner 'bit the bullet' & Dyna ignition coils were fitted.
These coils, unlike the Genuine Honda ones, do not have integral HT leads, bonded into the coil's casing, instead they are like those used with distributor type ignition systems found on older cars.
A good idea in my opinion, allowing the HT leads to be renewed should they develop a fault or become a little too short due to having the end's tidied up!
So in this video I run through how to make up your own set of HT leads, the video is equally relevant to both Cars & Motorcycles, probably pretty much anything that uses separate HT leads or 'Spark plug wires' as they are known as in 'merica...

" Moisture is the enemy" that was so true back in the late 70's when I was 18 thrashing around the Derbyshire countryside in the Peak District on my Kawasaki KH 250 when it rained the middle pot always went down cos of moisture so I ended up running on 2 cylinders more often than not . Nice vid thumbs up .

I learned a lot from this video.
Every time you spray dielectric grease directly on the contact points I cried a bit (dielectric grease is an insulator and should not be directly on your leads or else it will reduce electrical flow and conductivity)

@@holyjay101 right, because you don't want the best connection possible. Especially spark plugs, you want those connections nice & insulated so the spark plugs are getting almost no current. Yes thats the point, lower conductivity and make your bike run like shit. How could I have missed that?

The point of dielectric grease on contacts is to keep the current moving where it's supposed to and reduce leakage. It also prevents moisture from corroding the contacts. When the contacts slide together it scrapes the grease away so it does not in any way reduce the current flow through the connector.

Just a query isn't silicone grease an insulator therefore maybe isolating some of the connections??
ICT - Ignition Coil Tool... Park tools do the same thing with theirs. Mostly bicycles.

@AndyMechanic If you get a new set of coils how do you know which is 1,2,3,4 ?
Question: I’m reading a lot of people saying using dialectic grease on the metal connections is bad. I just made mine using about half the amount you used, but I’m concerned from a lot of comments on dialectic grease at the met connection points…
If you get a new set of coils how do you know which is 1,2,3,4 because it didn’t come with instructions or anything

Hi Jamie, unfortunately the HT leads on the original Honda coils are bonded in & can't really be replaced to a high standard. Youd be best purchasing new coils given their age too. Cheers Andy
