This driver station will cause severe injury to the operator because he only sits and does not move his body. All movements are minimized, the steering motion is reduced , only a small steering disc means the motion of the roller operator is reduced to a minimum. The result of this socalled monotone body position is severe danger for the health of the operator. If the body of the operator is supported too much the danger becomes very big. Muscles need to be used, it is called "use them or loose them". Well, here you only loose the power of your muscles and within a couple of years especially older operators will become trouble with normal walking, climbing stairs. The whole ergonomy of the roller is a piece of shit, sorry I have to say this but it is the truth. If you want to see how real ergonomic looks see the youtube movie of the 2006 Leeboy 400 roller. Here you see how the operator has a much more active body position with the driving levers at the steering wheel.

Thank you very much to hear that, you know I am not just complaining. The last ten years I have worked with Hamm DV 70 rollers and I was part of the development of the newer DV70I. But to be honest, the result to my body after ten years of work with this kind of ergomy, where all the controls are mounted in the driver seat has caused a lot of trouble to my body. I started my job as a roller operator in 1977. I was involved by the development of the Bomag BW 184AD , this development started in 1994, in december 1996 I did the final test before the roller was presented in 1997. What I like about the new Hamm is the cabine with a lot of space, but what I don´t like is the ergonomic level of the seat, this is not good. I told that to the company, but they put a lot of money in this system and they had contacted some Universities to develop this kind of ergonomic driver seat and they decided to put this system in every large Hamm roller. (I wonder what kind of experience Universties have with road rollers, in my opinion absolutely nothing). The seat can only be operated electrically. So the operator have to sit the whole day in only one single body position and when he wants to put thee seat from left to right or opposit it can only done electrically. So the operator has only a statich body position. I think you can imagine what effect it has on the circulation of the operator, he´s every day in severe danger of getting problem with blood clots and thromboses. I have designed several solutions, if you want to get some advice you can contact me. A former colleague from me is working in Holland by the dutch importer of CAT , the Pon company. We have already spoken about ergonomic. Maybe a possibility to keep contact with the help of the dutch CAT company? My Email address is adklompenmaker@gmail.com

@@walsmachinist1 What? You can't stand up and stretch? You can't get off the roller and walk around? You can't dismount and help the guys rake and shovel? Perhaps you need something more than a steering wheel.

@@margaretborne5918 I go out of the cabin as often as possible, I have a mountainbike in my car so when there is some time when we have to wait for the next truck I go cycling for half an hour. At the end of the day I cycle, walk. So I do a lot. But I am also a consultant for ergonomy and the way the new rollers are built is quite stupid. There is nothing ergonomic about it, look for example to the small rollers, every operator has to sit in a position where he or she has to bend over a lot to see the outside of the drum. Very very stupid, all people who have designed this kind of ergonomy should be send to prison!
