Nice to see a video about Caye Caulker from a fellow Canadian. I was there in 1994 but I have done it the other way around. I started to stay in an ecolodge in San Ignacio, on the Belize side of the border to Guatemala, went to Tikal and finally to Caye Caulker. I spent a few days there, then took a plane from there to Belize City where another pilot entered the small plane (5 seats including pilot and copilot) and flew back to Cancun where my flight back to Montreal was leaving (I missed that plane, but that is another story).

@@PlanFree I certainly wished I had more time, but I just had two weeks off so I started with one week visiting the Yucatan peninsula followed by a week in Belize, after that I had to return to the freezing temperatures at the James Bay Hydro Electrical Project. I wished to go back, but the planet is big and my travel budget small...

Hey @Kimberly, yes we were pretty new to video editing at that time. This was one of our first "productions"! We've learned a lot since then. Have you seen any of our more recent videos? Thank you so much for the positive feedback, we appreciate it @Sherry Smith! It was hot. It was humid. We are from the dry, flat, canola and farming areas, the plains of Alberta, Canada! So it was quite humid for us. But, being such a small island, we found it so easy to pop into the water for a bit in the hottest part of the day and then use a fan the rest of the day and we were ok. And we did that for the full 2 months! If you rent a place with air conditioning then you may have the best of both worlds and not notice the humidity so much, expect when our and about. We tend to rent more "locally" (both from the cost saving perspective but also as a test to see if a particular location in the world will suit us long term) and so we did find Caye Caulker humid and hot during Nov and Dec when we lived there. Are you considering CC for a posible vacation or an eventual move? Hope you had a chance to click the LIKE button for us! Thank you so much!

We love connecting with our viewers and subscribers (hope you are a subscriber?)! We paid about CAD$500/mo for our little place. We found it through www.airbnb.com. ...oh so much to say here.... - we were surprised at how relatively high rooms/apartments were priced since it seemed (before we traveled there) like a somewhat unknown, quaint (it IS) little island, - we wanted something out of the way of the main "busier" roads where people some in and out all day, ...I mean who wants to fight all those golf carts every day (hahahaaaa!), - There was NOT much selection as Caye Caulker is very tiny! That was just OUR experience. Have you been there or thinking of going? Lori

@Chris Yates, Based on memory I had my best luck by going down the road to the old air-port. After the airport take your fist left and continue to the beach where there is and old (sketchy) pier. I caught some decent bones there. Good luck, enjoy your time there!🍹

I really appreciate your authentic and honest experience in your video! I'm currently doing a ton of research online in trying to find what may possibly be a ideal place for me to move to, preferably near a beach town. Unfortunately I haven't been able to travel in many years so I truly don't have my own knowledge of places except for what I've found online. Sorry if this is long winded, basically my question to you is...can you recommend some possibilities for me that I'd be able to live on a budget of approx $1200 a month? Info online is very overwhelming lol. Looking for fairly safe place for single female and my fur baby to have a good quality of life on a budget. Based on research.... Dominican Republic, Roatan or Utila Honduras, Puerto Rico? I don't think Thailand or similar places are for me, even tho they look amazing lol. I'd truly appreciate any feedback based on your experiences. Also fellow Canadian from B.C now in US. Thanks in advance!

You and most of us are looking for that ideal locale and budget aren't we!? @BADGRINGA your budget does seem decent but you might want to start to look into places away from the coast in any country. In all honesty, most of our travels (Roatan, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, etc) ...anywhere we've been that's been along or near the coast: prices go way way up. There aren't many undiscovered places anymore and they've been turned (not always but many times) into expat owned and high-priced locations. In our experience, we've been able to find very inexpensive more rural locations to rent up in elevation. Also it would be a little bit difficult to recommend a location to you until we got to know you a bit better! For instance, and off the top of our heads, what kind of foods do you like to eat? What kind of activities do you like to do? Do you need a network of other expats around or near you or you quite comfortable completely surrounded by locals? Do you need access to larger grocery stores for a larger variety of things of can you be happy with beans and rice 60-70%of the time? Lol ....we have some feed stories!! Most of all we really thank you for watching our video and taking the time to comment and ask us some questions. We hope we are able to guide you a little bit in your decision making and location searching process.

We've learned a lot since we put this first video out. 😊 Also, once we release a video (like this one) and it's live on KZread we can't go back and change anything (such as lowering the background music)... it's already done. Hey, I’ve been trying to identify a place where I can purchase a house or condo for a somewhat reasonable price and snorkel on a regular basis, have you guys ever been to a place like that, that you liked so much you would buy a house there? If not what was the closest?

We have been travelling to different countries 6 months a year for 12 years and counting and we STILL haven't been to a place that we would seriously consider buying foreign real estate in. Renting-sure not a problem. That said the place that we have been to that most closely satisfies your desire for regular, outstanding, and easily accessible snorkeling would definitely be Roatan, Honduras. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaadqpqllKuyktY.html I am not informed on the relative affordability of the real estate there, my apologies. @@PlanFree I really enjoyed my time on Turks and Caicos, I primarily snorkeled Smith’s Reef and almost every day I would be swimming with at least a couple of really large eagle rays which was pretty special. I even saw one swim to the bottom and then rocket up out of the water to knock off a remora fish. Maui with turtles and eels and Crystal River Florida with the manatees were really special too. The only place I’ve been to that I would consider moving to was Austin, TX but obviously no snorkeling there. I think I plan on continuing to live in NJ (family and friends all here) but I’d love to find a property somewhere that I love to getaway over the winter and enjoy my favorite hobby. I just went to Roatan but only for a day, I was told the best snorkeling was in front of the Grand Roatan so that’s where I went and it was really nice but didn’t spot any larger creatures. Do you have any video of your snorkeling in Roatan and possibly a map or list of locations with great snorkeling? That would really aid my research a ton.

@@timdiehl5507 oh that's awesome! You sound like you've got a decent amount of travel under your belt there and it sounds like we have a shared interest in underwater sports!! You know some of our absolute best snorkeling was with the whale sharks just off the coast of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Wow! And then yes Roatan was incredible for snorkeling and free diving also! Pretty well anywhere along the southern shore line of Roatan was awesome for us. We lived right in Brick Bay (you can Google that location) and we could just walk right off of our beach across some rock and older coral and free dive off of the reef right there. It was absolutely incredible: eels, sharks, lionfish for spearing... it was awesome! We also lived in Curacao for 6 months and the snorkeling in the upper west end of the island was also fabulous....huge schools of fish, large snook, nurmerous turtles.... When we’re you there and how much was it to renew your Visas?

Hi there! We lived in Caye Caulker for 2 months at the end of 2014. I (Mrs.) recalled the Visa extension being about CAD$50 as to renew but Mr. Plan Free recalls closer to CAD$100 ea. And...a whole bunch of paperwork! And, now a days (essentially 2021) it is closer to CAD$100 we believe. Every 30 days! That's why one of our visa 'renewals' was a trip into Guatamala for a week. We thought "why not put the money towards seeing another country"?

Visa costs BZ$200 (US$100 but the government only accepts Belize dollars) now for a moth by month extension. Fast and easy to get but expensive.

Yes, in regards to the music... if you read through some of our other comments this was one of the first videos we ever made on our channel. We were brand new and so we just started with what we had and what we knew!
