I had the gastric bypass done and i have severe acid reflux and heartburn. I wish i NEVER had surgery.

Dang really? I had the sleeve and I have it really bad now too. Was considering going to the bypass but not if you can still have it. Guess I’ll just take Prilosec the rest of my life

Sounds like my friend she has to take enzymes also because she has been on antiacid pills or she throws up.

I had gastric bypass over a year ago , everything was going great. Until about a week ago. Now I have multiple ulcers post surgery causing tons of heartburn and abdominal pain.

GERD can be due to technique as well, and an MD did confirm this to me. I am told that where the incisions are made and avoiding certain landmarks of the stomach, Angle of his, etc etc...can be very important. I Would have had the surgery, but there is NO way for me to confirm the type of technique my surgeon uses. GERD can be due to other reasons of course, but technique is a factor.

I had the sleeve but converted over to the bypass. I had severe heartburn from the sleeve but lost bunch of weight. Once I had the bypass, had nothing but problems. And after I had the bypass I had bad problems with eating. My food and drinks came back up making me throw up every time. I had a stent put in for 2 months and it worked. The next day after I had the stent taken out, WHICH WAS DECEMBER 15,2023, I’m throwing up again. HOW CAN THIS BE FIXED!!!!

If you have hiatal hernia surgery which surgery should you have?

Would taking a PPI (Nexium) daily help for sleeve-related acid reflux? Is that an option or does it have to go straight to another surgery?

I had a sleeve gastrectomy back in 2019, with no issues of bad reflux or heartburn until recently, after a kidney transplant. Apparently, it’s a side effect of one of my anti-rejection medications. I take protonix twice daily, and it eases it, but it doesn’t eliminate it. I wish there was a solution that didn’t involve another surgery.

I was just put on protonix last week. Due to ulcers now post gastric bypass. The protonix is helping with abdominal pain but not helping with the heart burn.

Thinking about a sleeve but this worries me the most. I DON'T want a complete gastric bypass.

I had sleeve my reflux got worse now doing revision to bypass I don’t think anything helps

I had my gastric sleeve 5 years ago, and my acid reflux continues. It's so bad now that they're recommending I do the gastric bypass to end my issues with acid reflux😔

Exact same story. I know I did liquids during my preop phase and my hernia shrink, or my doctor said that it did. If I did a week or maybe two weeks of liquids and protein shakes would that shrink it again? Will it ever go away without being converted to Bob Hess? I am currently taking 80 mg of omeprazole daily and still have reflux.

I have LOTS of reflux and I had the bypass in 2018 so I don't think converting is a solution 😢

can i ask how things wnet for you? I am considering getting the sleeve but want to know if you had any relief. Very afraid of this acid reflux issue.
