Caught in Mudslides in Laos! (Thakhek Motorbike Loop Day 2)

A motorbike loop around the most beautiful part of Laos was suppose to be easy, but things started to go a little pair shaped on day 2.
We left Phosy Guest house in Thalang Village after arriving there on our first day on the Thakhek Loop. After passing a few control borders, we saw our first mudslide. Locals in the area were warning us before we even started the Thakhek loop that there is a possibility that we would encounter some mudslides but we had no idea what they would look like.
Loas experianced heavy rainfall about 2 weeks before we began our motorbike loop and caused one of the worst mudslides in the region in over 20 years. It caused a village that we wanted to stay in on the loop to have no electricity for about a week and a half.
After checking out some rock statues, we encountered our first massive mudslide that left us in shock! We could not believe the size of these land slides and what type of distruction it could actually cause. Most of the roads were destroyed and we had to ride through the mudslide which was something we were not expecting to be doing!

What an adventure.. Stunning Laos. Jaw dropped to see such devastation.. Amazing how you integrate so well with locals. Love the way you adapt and greet them in their language. Glad to see you guys back ☺️. On a side note, friendly advice from someone that travels mountain roads frequently, try to avoid stopping where the mountain side of the road is sheer like that. Even though it isn't raining the ground still can shift and a slide can happen. Safe travels! 🇨🇦

What an adventure, those roadside sculptures were beautiful. Dan, did you ride scramblers or enduro bikes previously because of your riding style of standing up over the rough ground on those wiped out roads. Hopefully the next part is much easier for you both.
