Cattle Grazing in Cover Crops in Southern Minnesota

Tom Cotter has been using soil health practices on his 1,100 acre farm in Mower County, Minnesota for the past 20 years. He plants cover crops on 99 percent of their land. He uses no-till and strip-till farming practices in their corn, soybean, and pea fields. His cattle graze in cover crops during the summer, fall, and winter months as he transitions to more organic acres. Videography by Dan Balluff.

Great Video on how to incorporate cover crops, armor the soil, graze livestock and add diversity to the cash crop rotation as well as within your cover crops!

You'll start seeing higher protein content if you hadn't already. Soil has been beaten to death. Early 1900s Kansas wheat was running around 20+%protein. Nowadays it's around 8%. What changed? 🤔 You have some happy cattle. Great job.
