Cattle Boat | Visiting with Huell Howser | KCET

From 1901 to 1998, the Vail and Vickers families had been cattle ranching on Santa Rosa Island. When you ranch on an island, you have to come up with a creative way to get your cattle to the mainland for market. The families had a custom built boat made named the Vaquero. Huell travels to Santa Barbara to visit with the families and builders of the Vaquero and learn about it’s fascinating history.

I live in Vail, AZ - named after this same family. Just visited Empire ranch, which pre-dates the Vail Santa Rosa operation by about 30 yrs. Very interesting family story.
This was and is my favorite show. ❤️
That boat is now decaying on the California delta not too far from Sandmound road. Saw it yesterday!

Yep passed it today sitting on the bottom of sandmound slough. Such a sad end to a beautiful boat…. Meth is bad mkay
