Cats Being Badass: A Tribute

Комедия

Commentary on cats being fearless. Cats can be surprisingly fearless in a fight, whether they are facing off with a dog, a coyote, a fox, or a bear. So this video is an appreciation of cats.

Not all cats hate dogs, I agree. My Grandma and Grandpa always had cats and dogs living together. But on the other hand we have a cat named Sam who hates dogs because he was chases by a rather large one when he was one.

We had an outdoors cat when I was in elementary school growing up in New Hampshire. He was a big ass Tomcat named Tom ( I know, how original...). One day, a very mean German Shepherd from up the road broke it's chain and chased me and my two friends up a tree in my front yard. No one seems to believe the story of Tom kicking this vicious dog's ass and sending him running up the street. He bled all the way home. His owner tried to accuse us of abusing his dog. We were 10 year old kids! That dog would've eaten us if not for Tom.

That reminds me of a story about a cat living at a horse riding facility. They had warning signs up about not trying to interact with that cat. One day a large dog ran after the cat. The cat went down and they thought it was done for. Nope. The dog needed 97 stitches. The cat was fine.

I got so sick of being accused of stuff as a kid. One time the neighbors tire swing came loose from the tree it was hung from and I almost broke my neck. They accused me of untying it. It was about seven feet up to the first branch and I was four years old. Plus why tf would anyone do that? Untying knots is not nearly as fun as swinging in a tire so there wasn’t even a motive. I still want to track them down just to tell them off. I don’t care if it happened 30 years ago. I’m still mad.

Back before we had phone cameras with us everywhere, I had this little 7 lb striped cat. She was so sweet. But this bully of a kid much older than me sicked his pitbull on me and came at me to beat me up in front of my house. My cat flew off the porch, jumped on the dogs face clawed her way to his back with him screaming, just ripping on that dog, then leaped onto the guys head just ripping away, he managed to run faster than the dog, then she jumped back on the dog and rode it like a jockey all the way down the block with them both screaming the whole way. Dismounted at the end of the block and ran into the lower branches of a tree. She was yowling like a crazy beast the whole time, and then growling, hissing, and drooling in the tree. The guy and the dog ran screaming all the way home. Once he was inside, she came back down and strutted back. I was sitting there with my jaw on the ground the whole time. Neither him nor his dog would come onto my side of the street any more. The one time he threatened, she was just suddenly right there and he ran away again...and the dog. I wish we had cameras back then. It was the most badass thing ever. 7 lbs of striped terror.

Yep. I grew up in the middle of nowhere northern Michigan and went to a one-room school from K - 6th grade and the school was right across the road from my house. . I had a Siamese cat, Yum Yum, who was sitting on our porch one day minding her own business when the mean German Shepard farm dog that lived down the road started approaching our house. It was lunchtime so I was looking out the window of the school and saw the dog heading towards my cat. Upset, I asked the teacher if I could go and rescue my cat, but the dog was too fast. He ran into the yard and straight for Yum Yum. Yum Yum fuzzed out then launched herself on that dog's back like a ninja and started slapping its eyes like a boss. The dog started "yipping" and whining then beat it out of our yard with Yum Yum riding him like a rodeo star on a bucking bronco. All the kids were cheering and screaming, lol. A minute or two later, Yum Yum came strutting back up the road, into our yard, and back onto the porch. I was never so proud of her! And that dog never came into our yard again. I still miss that cat.

The description of a cat's instinctive fighting strategy in this video is spot on. The reason it works so well against dogs is that the instinctive fighting strategy of dogs against anyone they know might not be a one shot is to start with a bluff. If their intended victim shows weakness at that point, they will move in for the kill. But cats respond to that bluff by immediately going on the attack, thus triggering the dogs to back off.

As a cat owner, I can summarize the difference between cats and dogs this way- Dogs: I will defend and protect my human because my love for them is so great, that I'm willing to ignore my own fear and put myself at risk for them! Cat: This human is MY PROPERTY, and to attack them is blatant disrespect against me, and for that YOU WILL BE DESTROYED.

The most badass cat I ever knew was a big mostly feral tomcat we named Steppenwolf. He was black and white with striking and unusually colored eyes of sea green. It took me almost an entire year of feeding him and respecting his boundaries to become friends with him. Believe me, if you tried to take liberties he would leave bloody furrows down your leg through your jeans. When he finally let me touch him I was only allowed to touch the last few inches of his tail, but within days I was able to pet him from head to tail. The first time he jumped on my lap I totally froze and was afraid to move--this cat was huge and all muscle. At one point, he didn't show up for food for two days in a row. The third day I spent a few hours walking around and calling for him, in a panic at the idea he was hurt or injured and couldn't get to me. The life of a feral cat is rough and usually short, but he totally disdained any feeble attempts on my part to make him a house cat. He was so smart and tough and knew how he wanted to live his life; I had no say so and had to respect the boundaries he set if I wanted to remain his friend. Which doesn't mean I didn't worry like crazy about him. He finally showed up that day and I could tell by looking at him from a half a block away that he was very sick. So sick that he didn't fuss when I picked him up and hustled him through my house past my cats and dog to my back room. I managed to keep him in there for a day and a half giving him antibiotics, great meals and copious amounts of pets and treats before he got serious about letting me know he wanted OUT. When I first brought him in the house I was petting him and felt something hard right above his eye. I discovered another cat's entire claw embedded in his face! I wiggled it out and Step never even blinked. Definitely a badass He recovered and remained the undisputed lord and master of the neighborhood.

Now I understand why my semi-feral rescue came home one morning missing many claws from each paw. I hadn't intended to bring him to live inside, but he had to be neutered, because he was spraying everywhere, right through open windows, and he fought constantly all day and night. The howls were pretty terrifying. I lured him inside and got him into the vet, and found out he's FIV+. So that explains why he never stopped fighting. It's an FIV thing. It's how the virus is spread. The vet insisted that I had to keep him inside to protect the feral colony from his viral contribution. So I steeled myself and acclimated him to life indoors. It was coming along nicely, but he would occasionally sneak out when I brought groceries in or whatever. But I could always lure him back inside by snapping the twin pack of Sheba wet cat food. And then one night he didn't care about that. He ran off in the direction that cats from the colony always come from, which is an industrial park. No trespassing or you will be investigated by Homeland Security. I snapped the twin pack, and he stopped to look back, and then shook his tail and kept on going. And there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't get through the fences and gates to go after him. I didn't sleep well that night, and got up at 6 the next morning feeling awful. And there he was, sitting on the dining room windowsill looking inside the house. And he was a mess! Scratched up and missing 3 or 4 claws from each paw, feeling much worse than I did. It had been a bitter cold night, too. It had been 3-5 months since he had last spent a night with the colony, so he didn't have a place there any more. Somehow they find warm or at least not freezing places to sleep in the industrial park, but he had lost his spot. So he suffered the fights and no sleep that night. He hasn't been as interested in going back in that direction since then, and wasn't even interested in going outside for a month after that. He started trying again, though, and has gotten out twice, but both of those times he ran off in the opposite direction to the other side of the colony's territory, and he came back within an hour asking to be let back in. It's been a while since he's tried to sneak out, but I don't know if it's because he knows he doesn't belong to the colony anymore, or if he decided he likes the easy indoor life.

Kenyan guy here. We had a female cat growing up, her name was Jessy. Used to be that she'd always get bullied and harrased by these two mean, stray dogs that were always roaming round the neighbourhood (we don't have "animal control" here, so strays are common, sometimes rabid). One day, after she didn't come home for dinner and the door to the house was locked, she was forced to sleep outside. I go to sleep as usual, but in the middle of the night, I'm woken up by the sounds of a fierce fight between a cat and some dogs going on in our backyard. I open the window to see what's going on and I see Jessy cornered by these two dogs. Seeing as I can't go out of the house as it's the middle of the night and I'm a kid, dangerous place, etc, I say a prayer for her and go back to sleep. Next morning, I go to the back of the house to pick up what I assumewould be my cat's corpse to bury, only to be met by two dead dogs with scratches all over their body. A couple of hours later, Jessy comes into the house limping and just sleeps for the whole day, she wakes up to eat in the evening.

I had a cat about 10 years ago who LITERALLY came with the house we moved into. Our oldest daughter was home sick, and our youngest was only 3 at the time. I took our youngest outside with me to pick mint for her sister, and a boxer, rottie, and Aussie came from the side yard and went after Laila who was on a swing. My bestie (duck the wonder Kitty) came flying out of nowhere and went straight for the dogs about two inches from our daughter. I had enough time to get Laila inside because of duck being so fearless. Unfortunately, my best friend passed during the attack, but our daughter would've died if not for her being so selfless. Animal control caught the dogs, and they were rabid. They were family dogs a couple blocks from our home, and they'd all been in a fight with a coyote carrying the disease. Duck was a lioness, and I'm forever grateful for her

Dachshund saves cat! We live in Texas, a few stray cats come around the neighborhood, but one was my dachshund's "friend". I fed her so she'd come and go, one night the sirens went off, "TORNADO COMING TORNADO WARNING!" I grabbed the family got everyone safe but my dog Max kept pushing on the door to go outside!! I gave in and what he did shocked me. That cat was under our shed out back, he rounded her up and pushed her inside the house then nipped at her until they were under the bed!! I thought, "Well, okay!" Tornado passed we only lost part of the roof. They were still under the bed. Took her to the vet, she was perfectly fine. I got home and said "Max, you adopted a cat!" First cat we ever had and it was great. The games they played were hilarious. Still, I think about how he knew what to do to save her. Incredible really.

@@mawmawvee :/ Are you not letting them back in at all? If she is afraid of storms can you get her in before they start? Idk if I'm just reading it wrong but you seem like you are more annoyed at her for coming home to get away from the storm. If that is the case and you are trying to get the kitty to stay away maybe it would be good to rehome them. I mean no offense with this. If you haven't given up on the kitty and would being it back inside there are lots of things that can be done to help with the scratching/biting etc. Usually there is a reason behind that behavior and often you can get them to stop with a few changes. If you are nervous and hesitant when you go to pet the kitty they may strike out because approaching them in that way can seem threatening. If you wrestle with the kitty or use your hand to tease it they will be rough with you when you aren't expecting it. There are a lot of reasons they may be attacking. Sometimes even a health issue could cause something like this and a trip to the vet could get the behavior to stop.

But the dogs were sniffing around it too much and not backing off... so the heavily pregnant cat leaped off the ground and slammed into the face of one of the dog's, sending both of them running for cover. They didn't come back.

I found an orange tabby kitten hiding under a stairwell with a bent rear leg. The vet checked him out and said the leg had been broken but was healing and he wasn't in pain. To fix the leg entailed rebreaking it and she suggested it was kinder to let it heal. I took it home and decided he would do just fine indoors even though he could not jump or run as well. My house had dormers on the second floor with windows inset and a small flat area indented into the pitch of the roof, allowing the cat to lounge on the sill in the summer until he spotted my car coming around the corner. He would jump in the window as I pulled into the garage and be waiting to greet me at the kitchen door after I parked my car. He was never a cuddler but he was always somewhere in the same room as I was and eventually he took to laying next to my leg but never on me, always with his bent, bad leg away from me. He could not jump up on the counters and I set up a 3 step way for him to get up and out the upstairs window when the weather allowed it to be open all day while I was at work. One day I was outside of the front door, around the front side of the house when a german shepard came tearing across the yard straight at me from behind. I had barely registered what was happening when an orange blur shot past me, landed 4 paws and claws and teeth on the dogs face before jumping off, as the dog yelped and ran, and somehow landing on the angled constriction of the brick chimney about 7 feet up and behind me. I was looking at him trying to understand what had happened and how he was able to do what he did when the dog and its owner came back asking what happened to his dog. I proceeded to chastise him for letting it run loose and chasing my cat up the chimney but he tried to say everything was fine and letting go of his dog, tried reaching up to grab my cat off the chimney. The now loose dog also follow his owner and reared up with 2 paws on the bricks while I said no, no, wait! But before they could react my cat proceeded to piss on both of their faces and everything else except for me. I wasn't hit with a single drop but man, did the guy and dog get blasted. I could not have been more proud. Cat was fine when I got him down, just a couple busted claws. I never saw him jump like that ever again or even move that fast on his crooked, bent back leg but he continued to show his gratitude to me for being rescued for the rest of his years until he passed from kidney failure at 18 years old. I miss that orange tabby to this day.

My Mr. Puma was a black short hair. Born in my desk by Beltsa, the wildest feline this side of the Pecos. Mr. Puma grew up to become the undisputed king of terror for many a poor animal soul. He was big, no fat and felt like a sack of wet concrete when picked up. One morning he was sitting in the middle of my street taking in the morning sun. When a rottweiler from up the street came wandering down. This huge dog saw Puma and ran at him as fast as he could. Puma didn't move until that dog was within reach. Then in the blink of an eye he literally shredded that dog's nose with one mighty swish. The dog wailed, turn and ran screaming with blood flying everywhere. Puma never even got up, sat there there the whole event and ended it with one punch. He lived 14 years and never quit his Fight Club ways. He sure loved humans though. :)

We had a black kitty, Midnight. She had a litter of four little cuties and was chillin while they frolicked around her. Neighbor’s big black GSD was hanging its head through a gap in the fence, barking non-stop, drooling at the sight of the kittens. I glanced up at the door to see dog owner smirking at how brave and courageous her animal was at bullying those 4 little puffballs. My attention was drawn away from a-hole neighbor by a moving black blur accompanied by an ungodly screeching sound, then bleating and pathetic whimpering. Midnight retreated back to her babies’side, and drops of red blood began to fall on the pavement beside them. She had sliced and diced the dog’s snout and tongue. I looked back up at the dog owner…she smirked no more. I left the bloodstains on the pavement for a long time as a memorial.

Long experience with cats, including having tomcats for as long as I've lived, has taught me this: Tomcats don't just want to protect their area, but also the status quo of everyone and everything on that area. Anyone that threatens a creature whose presence has been accepted (and maybe even appreciated), immediately becomes an enemy. This protective instinct is probably to ensure that female cats are comfortable on a tomcat's territory. If the ladies don't like aggressive dogs, then aggressive dogs will just have to go. If the ladies like the kid, then the kid will have to be kept safe. Their gentlemanly nature has been greatly underappreciated.

Cats have a very real sense of pack solidarity, which is why feral colonies thrive so well. They don't see humans as masters or providers like dogs do. You're their sibling, you're family, and they may bop you in the face for no reason and drop a dead grasshopper on your toes, but they'll also jump into action if they perceive a threat to either you or the rest of the colony. This is also why they feel entitled to your food and don't give a damn about your boundaries, lol. My family had a cat named Dillon when my sister and I were very young, and he saved my sister's life. She was going to check the mail, but he wouldn't let her off the porch. Our oldest sister came out to tell Dillon off for being a bully. That's when she realized there was a massive water moccasin in the gravel driveway, right where my other sister would have walked. Thanks to Dillon, my oldest sister was able to act fast, get my other sister into the house, and kill the snake so no one else would get hurt. Dogs are great, of course, and I love them just as much, but cats are something else.

Watching a snake trying to strike at a cat.... and the cat's reflexes are so SUPER-QUICK, it just pushes the snake's head away like it was nothing. Cat's lightning-fast reflexes are one of the ways cats are able to intimidate larger animals. Like you said, a cat can swipe you in the face 20 times before you even register what is happening. It's the element of surprise, and it makes other animals want to run away. AMAZING!!!! (Plus, those claws and teeth can be wicked sharp!)

Fast, strong, stealthy, acrobatic, courageus, cute and a sense of justice and appreciation of peace. Cats are everything I want to be. Also, I did not know that cats know how to jumpkick. I do know that a cat's paws may seem harmless, but they aren't. My mom got punched by our cat once, and she had a hematoma on the spot for days. A cat's paw is built on an absurdly powerful mechanism with its bones and muscles, and isn't just fast, but hits like a wrecking ball. Couple that with claws that can continuously be sharpened by growing back after the cat whets them on any coarse surface, and you have blades that are so fine, the cuts take ages to heal because the tissue is cleanly severed, not torn apart.

My mom was an animal hoarder, which was pretty horrific. But it was pretty funny sometimes too. Cats definitely have a pecking order when they live in large groups. The cat who ruled the roost at my mom's was a tortoise shell named Pumpkin, Punny for short. She was also known as The Bitch for reasons I will soon make obvious. The other cats would often squabble amongst themselves, but Pumpkin didn't allow this. When she heard them, she would run over to them, ball her front paw into a fist, and start beating one them on the head. She hit them so hard, their chins would actually bounce off the floor. She basically dribbled their heads like basketballs. So when they'd squabble, they kept it very short and then run away quickly, before Punny could come and beat them. One day, my mom adopted a dog (just what she needed). She was about forty lbs. The dog heard two of the cats squabbling. She went to investigate the noise, not knowing what would happen. When she got to the spot, the cats had already run off, but here comes Punny. She launched herself onto the poor dog's back, wrapped her front legs around her neck, and began chewing on the dog's neck. That poor dog ran through the house screaming and yipping in pain and terror. She got along with Punny after that and learned to follow Punny's rules. She was a very sweet, loyal dog. When my mom went into a nursing home, I sent her to live with my uncle. I was able to find good homes for all the other animals too, though it wasn't easy. Rest in peace, Punny. I'll never forget you or your strong spirit. Be sure to keep all those cats in line up in kitty heaven.

When I was growing up in a small rural town, we lived next door to the feed mill where the local farmers would bring their grain to be ground. One day, a farmer brought his dog along. The dog decided to run into and around our yard. Well, our mama cat, Boots, was having none of that! He was big, but I don’t think he was a real danger to her kittens. Nevertheless, she wasn't taking any chances. She made a beeline for him and chased him back to the truck he had jumped out of. I remember cheering her on, "GO BOOTS!" The dog realized who was in charge real quick!

Many a dogs have gotten their tails whooped by the barn cats for trying to chase them, or charging at the fences to bark at goats and cows. Then there's our indoor chonky girl who sits growling at the front or back door whenever a rattler is close to the house. Last year she ran out the door ahead of my spouse and killed one.

One day my mom was working in the front yard, when a stray dog came out of nowhere and started barking at her. Our cat immediately came charging and sent him running. Some minutes later, I hear my mom screaming our cat's name and then laughing. When I came outside to see what was going on, my mom said that the same dog had come back...along with some of his buddies (😹so funny) and our cat just launched at one of them and then chased them away, again. I can just imagine our cat thinking 'I beat yo *ss and I'll beat theirs, too'. Her name was Punky. I miss her so much.❤

We had a cat, who’s passed on now 2 yrs. She was fearless. While other kitties would run and hide at the mere sound of a footstep upon the porch, she would be there to greet whomever was visiting. Her favorite place was sitting on your collarbone and throat as you tried to watch TV with her fur pushed up into your face. She also threw herself into one thing, the bathroom door. You weren’t allowed privacy no matter what you were doing. Whether showering or sitting on the throne, there would be a mighty thud, and Kiki would walk in, give you a “wat s’up”, and then walk out, leaving the door wide open. Shouts of Kiki! were enough to warn us someone’s privacy was infringed and to give them a moment to exit with dignity.

You remember that part of this video where the little dog was doing his business in the backyard and was attacked by two coyotes? Well, animals know that potty time is the most vulnerable time for them . And in the wild, other predators take advantage of that. So your Kiki was just trying to make sure you were OK while you were at your most vulnerable.😄 Every cat I ever had did the same thing and most of them also waited patiently outside the shower stall until I was finished to make sure I didn't drown. 🙄😆

Most of them disappear eventually and I never know what happened to them, but several have crawled back to my yard to die after running into some other animal. I wish they'd just stay in my yard. I have had the pleasure to own cats and dogs at different times and there have been instances where they have come to my aid to bravely neutralize a perceived animal threat. One time a big German Shepard wandered into my yard and my Siamese cat was instantly in attack mode and charged the dog with teeth and claws slashing away like a demented Bruce Lee. The frenzied cat was all over the startled dog as it yelped in terror at my cat's vicious attack and then the dog turned away and sprinted for safety away from my property. The hissing and screaming cat pursued the terrified dog right up to the boundary of my yard and then turned around and calmly walked back to join me on my deck, mission accomplished.

With sharp claws, and sharp teeth and her mother instinct kicking in, she clawed, bit the poor dog till it howled and bloodied. The owner still holding the dog's leash tried to kick my cat and use his hand to slap her. My cat then refocus her attention towards the owner. Ending, the owner had bloodied legs, the dog cuts on its face and nose with blood dripping. Next day, me and my cat was summoned to the village officials. A dog in our neighborhood loved to chase cats, squirrels, birds, whatever she could find. This cat was normally kept inside, but he got out one day and we didn't find him before the dog did. She charged straight at Snowflake only for this cat to launch himself three feet straight up in the air and come down on the back of her head, already scratching and biting. The dog went from snarling to yelping and ran off with this screeching cat hanging on and mauling her the whole way. A couple minutes later, the cat walked back to the house, sat at the front door, and started washing himself. I love cats.

Lotsa sun and he seemed harmless. A big loaf. But there was a big Blue Jay who would perch on the lowest branch of my fig tree and taunt him tirelessly. Bip ignored him. I threw walnuts at him and he'd come right back. Bip rarely asked to go out front but one day he did so I let him out and watched where he was going. The Jay was there, barking away. Bip casually walked over, sniffing a few flowers and eating some grass until he got right under that Jay, who was about 6' up. In a flash-like a puff of fur-BiP went straight up, grabbed that Jay, and slammed him on the grass. [graphic warning!] and held the Jay with one front paw then ripped its head right off. I was STUNNED. OMG. Bip dropped the head at my feet, went back to his perch to chill and clean up. WTF! He was a badass and I never knew it. No more Jays in that tree the rest of his long life. Whatta cat.

I can't tell you: 1 - how much I appreciate that this video was not a compilation of videos with a voiceover. Good to see a person's face, you know? 2 - HOW MUCH I COULN'T STOP LAUGHING!!! 3 - Your commentary/fight wrestling audio/ etc, just brilliant. Thanks for this video, it brightened my day.

Can we assume that the catapult was so named because the inventor(s) observed cats in action?

Alright, cat story time. I've seen a kitten riding a mole that was bigger than she was. She also rode a turkey vulture into the air before taking it down. She disappeared for about five years and showed up one day like it was nothing, stuck around a few years then disappeared again. I've had more than one cat who leaped off the roof of the house to take bats out of the air at night. We had a cat that went through a phase where it attacked every dog it saw. It always won. These were not small dogs. One was a German shepherd known for killing cats. She chased it in circles for nearly an hour. I've had a cat use my back as a springboard to catch a bird it was chasing, twenty feet in the air. My current pair use different bird chirps they can mimic for different and specific communication. They've developed their own language and seem to understand each other perfectly. They're my sparring partners, so I can really say my reflexes are cat-like. They go full claw but rarely tag me anymore. We had a cat that liked whiskey. Now we never gave him whiskey, but if you left a drink unattended he'd just know. He also understood that glass was breakable. One day he'd knocked a metal pot on the floor, and tried to knock the whiskey bottle into it to get his fix. He also didn't care about getting wet and used to dive into the river and come out with fish. Don't mess with cats.

LOVED this video!!! I love animals, so I do love dogs, but in my heart I've always been a cat person. Just something about their independence, and as you say their protectiveness, speaks to me. Great video, so thanks!!
