@@andreae5417 Yes, when neighbor said her school might not be rated well but they were making her son a "Christian soldier" I said he can get educated well and still be a faithful child and adult. I don't like when people act like it's one or the other. Actually Harvard had in the last few years 2 nuns and 2 priests enter after graduation : )

Prayers please. I just enrolled my kids in Kindergarten and 1st grade in public school and I feel sick about it. My kids are sweet, kind, quiet and shy and I feel like I am throwing them to the wolves. I was supposed to homeschool this year but I failed miserably. I just want my kids to be happy healthy well rounded individuals. Please pray as I don’t think we can afford private school.

I believe they have something like bursary for low income earners in private Catholic schools. We got it as my husband is only working casually, but you have to ask the front office about it, just call them and see. It saved us so much money seriously, like we only pay about 20% of normal price to send my son to a Catholic school. I was so shocked. We love the staff there as we are totally appreciative of how they helped us, this is my son 6th year at the school and still on Bursary payments, we are totally blessed for this. But I do live in Australia so I’m not sure where you live as they’re could be different rules but that’s why you need to enquire about it. Cause in our country there is a foundation that usually rich people donate to, to help the less fortunate with payments of Catholic schooling (Bursary payments) but you have to be a low income earner otherwise you won’t be eligible. Just ask to find out if you are eligible. GodBless

I will pray. I have done all three, Catholic, homeschool and public. And you do feel like you are throwing them to the wolves when you put them in public schools. What I did was get very involved and knew all the teachers, principal and other parents. I volunteered in the classrooms on a three day week basis, I helped out in the library. My kids thrived and are very vocal about their Catholic faith. They are going to charter schools now as they are available since we moved. I would love to have them home again but I am terrible at teaching and the homeschool community is not always the most welcoming so they didn’t have friends. Your blessed they are still in the early grades. Those you will find are ok and not that bad.

If you desire private school ask the school what their financial aid offerings are. Also speak to the lead priest because he might be willing to work with you. That is how our school's priest is. They don't want to turn families away because of money, they really don't. If it still doesn't work out just remember your kids are in God's hands always. And you can refocus on building up an extremely authentic domestic church at home to immerse your kids in when they are not in school :-)

Eep, how come you failed? Honestly, I'd do everything in my power to make sure they're learning the right stuff, and as soon as they start spewing anti-Catholic crap, PULL THEM OUT right away. It's better to have dumb poor kids that live life for God than to have rich smart anti-Catholic kids in risk of being damned. Praying for you.

I ended up opening a school in my home. I had a small group from the nearby army base. I loved it. The kids thrived. Parents were happy.

I would gladly pay for that! Our family can afford a good Catholic school for our boys, but those don't exist where we live. I'm unable to homeschool due to chronic illness. I would love to send my kids to a good homeschool group where I trust the educators.

@@TheChickBowdrie It was wonderful. I thrived because I was able to really teach. We took field trips. My adult son and a few friends were always around to help out. I also had kids there before and after school. They learned. They had fun. And their parents were happy. I miss all of it.

So true. It doesn't matter if someone is home-schooled, goes to a Catholic school, or a public school; a good Catholic foundation throughout childhood is only successful if the family unit is healthy and balanced. The family unit has broken down and become more dysfunctional by the year and it is heartbreaking to see. Heather is such a breath of fresh air with her excellent mothering, which is a main reason I watch her videos weekly despite have children that are no longer young. I often laugh in my comments to her, saying "my son is 24 but I still cannot help but watch your videos on things like childhood toys and books for kids." I'm sure she gets a chuckle out of it. So many of her videos (the ones on kids) don't apply to my stage of life, but they still lift me up and make me smile, and I do my daily Rosary to her novena videos. She has helped so much with rediscovering my love and devotion for the Catholic faith. What a blessing she is to this KZread community! Thank you for your insightful comment. God bless!

Bush’s no child left behind act really was the beginning of the end for public schools.

It's a spiritual battleground for our children today. The catholic school our son is in is amazing and I am so thankful

We are so lucky to have found a true Catholic school where we live! They have daily Mass, weekly Divine Mercy chaplet and benediction, frequent confession, retreats and have classical education. So blessed!!

I was a public teacher. Now I'm a proud Catholic momma of 3. I love being home with my kids and we started a homeschool preschool coop this fall. It is thriving and the kids and parents LOVE it! Such a blessing from God. I'm so glad he has led me in this direction away from the toxic culture permeating public schools.

Private schools don’t even exist where I live. It’s public school or homeschool, that’s it. I pulled my kids out of public schools for similar reasons and now homeschool. I NEVER imagined that I’d homeschool, but here we are!

I also know so so many Catholics that went to Catholic schools and are not devout Catholics today. Sad. Again, it all comes from the home. It’s just nice to have a school to support your teachings.

Catholic schools sometimes or a lot of the times maybe, hire non-Catholic teachers or lukewarmish teachers........ so yeah, be VEEEERRRY careful of those too...... don't just yeet your kids to a private school and assume they're learning good stuff, they probably aren't.

I think that what is said and done at home is 100 times more important than what Catholic School has to offer. At the end of the day, school is just a brick and motor building, but home is where we learn our morals. I went to Catholic school, and i can also say the majority of my peers left the faith, luckily my family always put their faith first and taught me to love God above everything.

For me the reasons why I'm not devoted Catholic anymore not bc it came from home. My parents are very religious, made us go to church every Sunday, and pray et . For me I am no longer devout Catholic bc I went to Catholic school. Many of the nuns and teachers were verbally abusive towards me and other students. When my parents went to complained, they were completely ignored and stood by the nuns and teachers. One of the nuns was my esl teacher. Since I was dyslexic and I was slow learner. She would used that to taunt me. Whenever I couldn't understand something or have trouble reading, she would always yelled at me and accused me for not trying hard enough. She would get another student to do the reading or answer the question, when they did got it right. She would taunt me by saying, "You see she got it right, what don't you get it right. I know why bc you are not trying hard enough that why.," she would give that student a sticker and said " I cant wait to hear what your teacher would say once you come back from class, see how all your classmates have all these beautiful stickers and you don't even have one.," She would insult me until I cry. You would think she would stop there but no. She would either say some crying you big baby. You are in 2nd grade or she would minck the way I cry. She is a nun, aka a follower of Jesus Christ, she is pulling this crap on a elementary school student when she is like 40. My 2nd grade teacher wasn't any different either. She would even threaten to flunk us. She was also a dedicated Catholic. One thing in preschool, I peed my pants bc the principal who is also a nun caught me running towards the bathroom. She told me no running in the hallways, you lost the privilege of using the bathroom. You would get untroubled for the stupidest thing. My cousin got untroubled for having chapstick since it was makeup. She got detention for yelling at the teacher. She said she was accused of wearing makeup and when she said no she wasnt. The teacher just lick her figure rub it on her face to see if she was telling the truth. My cousin got mad at her, the teacher told her that she had detention bc no yelling at the teacher its disrespectful. My aunt complained to the principal and that principal stood by the teacher. Another rule, was no matter if you are full or don't like it. You have to finish that. I rmr I hated milk, so I threw it away. My teacher caught me fished it out and made me drink it. I even got sick for eating food, that made me eat.

Yes, I believe how the family raises their children makes a huge difference! If the kids see the parents in church, doing devotionals, and Bible studies they will see how important spending that time with the Lord is.

School is such a hard issue for all parents these days. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Homeschooling phonics is hard. We use a scripted program (All About Reading) because I am not good at teaching phonics. There are so many resources to help with those hurdles

YES!! 100 easy lessons is awesome- I know a grandma who is teaching her autistic grandson to read using this book- he's 12 and it's finally getting it!!! She says she cannot thank me enough for recommending this book- I've had a great time doing it with two of my kids also! (The others are too little 😋)

Please pray for me and my family as we are considering homeschoolimg. We have free Catholic education in Canada but still are considering this as a path for us. Not sure...

It really depends on the quality of the Catholic School you have access to. My boys go to an outstanding Catholic grade school (k-8). Our whole family has been enriched by the school experience my boys are having. We are all getting valuable lessons!! With 2000+ years of Catholic history and so many resources to sift through, there is so much to know and experience- too much. Even as devout a family as we are, I could not have provided the richness that my boys have gotten at school on my own at home. With that said, I am homeschooling my high school aged daughter because the high school doesn't have the authentic Catholic culture that the grade school has. She has a very solid foundation in her faith. I do not want her to get a distorted idea of what it means to be Catholic from the high school. My daughter was told she could not wear her Rosary! That’s when we knew it was time to change to private school.

I'm Catholic and was raised in the NYC public school and raised my kids in public schools. My daughter is an adult and out the house and my son is a Jr in Highshool. If I had younger kids going through the school system now I would NEVER send them to public school now. Especially if you live in a liberal state/city. There are so many homeschooling options now. Pray for our kids!!! 🙏 🙏

As a former public school teacher, now stay at home mom, I agree 100%. I taught in a middle school for 3 and 1/2 years and it is just not a good environment for your kids at all, not only because of the curriculum but also because the other kids themselves will tend to be bad influences.

Completely agree with everything you said. I’m a 69 year old grandmother, and it breaks my heart to see what my son’s family and daughter’s family are going through with decisions for the children to get an education and most importantly still be Catholic. I pray for all children and their families to make the best decisions, and I pray for all schools to teach as our Heavenly Father would have them to do. God bless all children and their families.🙏❤️

Great video Heather! Those are exactly my concerns about public or even Catholic schools and my primary reason for wanting to homeschool my children. I think my husband is somewhat on board, but he does think it is important for them to go to school. Please pray for us and for my husband to be completely on board! Oh for curriculums - I want to do a combination of MODG and Mater Amabilis.

We have 9 children. We’ve done public, private, homeschool, back to private, back to homeschool. It’s exhausting! Currently our 2 high school daughters are in a very small Catholic school, the 7 others are at home. 6th, 4th, 2nd, K and then a 4yr old, 2 yr old, 5 mo old. We started using Catholic heritage. It’s great for Iittle kids. But definitely boring. Homeschooling is not ideal. I love having them home, but it can be really frustrating. I honestly don’t know what to do. I would prefer them in school, but even in the Catholic school, their peers are just terrible. Every kid has a cell phone and they just have so much information. The bad behaviors and lack of discipline from teachers..rooted in just bad parenting. Im better off just keeping them home until high school. But, I may LOSE MY MIND in the process!

Very interesting. I thought in public schools for 17 years. At first I loved it. As the years continued, I realized that the school system where I taught just wasn't doing the teaching they needed to be doing.

Hi Heather. I attended a Catholic girls School in the 70’s. Catholic schools today are not like what they used to be. I believe a lot of it has to do with our upbringing and how Catholic our parents were. I know a lot of people that I went to school with did stay in the faith because they had devoted Catholic parents and then there were those few who didn’t and ended up leaving the faith. I think they’ve lowered some standards and they’ve allowed a lot of other faiths to come in only because of a private education. All in all I ended up putting my five children in public school, my youngest who are twins just turned 18 and are actually in their senior year of high school. If I could go back and do it all over again I would’ve put them in Catholic school even with the changes. I wish I would’ve never put them in public school. When you were talking about the family life that the schools teach I am in California and in our districts when that came up they did allow us to be in there, and some of the things that I heard just blew my mind. They did not promote abstinence it was the other way around, it was so graphic and some of the tools that they used were actual objects, and some of the things that they talked about, I was just floored. My children really struggled and I believe if it wasn’t for our faith and being strong in our faith we would’ve lost our children at some point to the beliefs that were being indoctrinated into them in the public school system. Even now there’s things that we’re dealing with that came up during those years and that stuck in their minds. My two older girls who are now 27 and 30 and I homeschooled them through an independent study program and that worked out well but I did take them out of the public school in ninth grade. What I did want to mention is yes, whenever family life classes are taught in a public school the parent has the option to attend one of the classes before your children actually take the class and then you have the option to opt your child out which we did. The number one thing to remember is that we are our childs advocates. If there are any Catholic parents out there that read this , I would cut corners , I would budget in every possible way even if that meant not driving that luxury vehicle and not having all the extra things that we have today to put my children in Catholic school, I would do it in a heartbeat. Again I believe that children can and will be successful in Catholic school but it’s also up to the parents if the parents are not strong in the faith and Catholic school would do no good. God bless you. God bless you. We were saving for college for our kids (a luxury in its own right, I know), but when we found out we were pregnant with our 4th it gave us enormous pause. "What are we doing? Why are we investing in the end of the game and not the beginning?" So we have stopped, and we are putting that money towards Catholic school, and utilizing every other tool at our disposal to make it work. We only have 1 school aged child at this time. We trust that we are discerning right for our family and that God will provide. And believe me, I will be on my hands and knees begging if I have to if it means keeping them in Catholic school. The things I saw and was exposed to from other students, from teachers, from the whole environment as a kid... rampant drug violence, total unchecked promiscuity with kids practically "going to 3rd base" in broad daylight, gangs, riots, catering to lgbt agenda...I am not kidding. Long Island schools! As early as 1st grade kids were cursing as a primary means of expressing themselves. The Catholic kids were definitely different, but they succumbed to certain pressures under the weight of such depravity and influence too. I get that public schools are literally the only option for some families, but if it is at all possible...their souls are worth it!

@@ashleyslack5960 I am on Long Island too! We are putting our oldest in Catholic school next year! My thoughts on public school have changed a lot in the last few years as things have changed.

I was a public school teacher & last year I left my job because of my health and we’ve converted and become Catholic in that time! Looking back Im horrified at the things I was taught and were normalized to me as a teacher. Trans ideology, same sex marriage, “whiteness” as bad, social justice above all else, and much more. I think if I’d stayed I would have been forced to have books in my room for children to explore choosing their gender & books for if they were homosexual. Also the “talks” where parents arent allowed to know are absolutely happening and teachers are brainwashed into it being a good thing & forced into it. All of this not to mention that the schools dont discipline (ex sending a child to the office) anymore. I had children destroying my classroom, standing on chairs, etc and the principal said there was nothing to do except keep trying to teach & if it got bad to evacuate the other children from the classroom. When I was student teaching we had several little kids (Kinder &1st grade) destroying the room so much that the whole class fell behind because we evacuated so often. I was even teaching in a rural kansas town, somewhere you would expect to be very conservative but its changing rapidly. My hubby & I also went to public school but had bad experiences, that plus what I experienced in teacher training & at my last school, we could never send our kids to public school. Its so sad & frightening what’s happening to the public schools.

Not too long ago, in middle school my teacher forced my class into a debate whether abortion is good or not and if medical suicide was ethical. I was 12. I was confused why we eerre learning this and it freaked me out. Later in 11th grade i had a transgender teacher. "She" had a deep voice and definitely made me uncomfortable. Our public schools are horrible. I babysit my nephew now during his zoom classes and my aunt caught his teacher forcing the kids on their knees and threatening to beat them. We got that teacher fired. But my goodness. Please take your kids out.

Thank you for making this video. We have also recently made the switch out of public school for the same reasons. Home schooling never crossed my mind - ever, until we found a hybrid program. 2 days in person instruction the rest at home. Wonderful support for homeschooling that I don’t need to do it all on my own. We use mother of divine grace and yes they go to mass together both school days and pray the rosary. Finding this program has been such a blessing. Hopefully more parents will become aware of what is going on sooner rather than later

Thank you for making this video! This is a very critical issue in our society today. This issue about public education versus Catholic education is a tough one for sure. I am working on a Master's Degree and license to become a special education teacher. I love working with children with special needs and have discovered this passion for it because I have a sister that has special needs. I will have to start my career at a public school. I have always wanted to incorporate my Catholic faith into my job by teaching children about the faith. At a public school, I am not able to do this. It is really frightening to see the curriculum that is being used in public education. When I was working on my undergraduate degree in early childhood education, there were things about the curriculum that was very against my faith. I have never seen this before and it was really shocking. So far, I have never been forced to teach lessons or use a curriculum that has contradicted my beliefs and I pray that I will not have to. I went to a public school all of my life and this had never happened until fairly recently in public education. It is hard to teach at a public school because I cannot talk about my faith with students, but it is even harder ( actually impossible) when the curriculum is in direct contrast with my faith. Even though it is hard to be in this position, it is an amazing opportunity (so far) to reach kids that do not know God or have any sort of religious upbringing. It is really awesome to reach and care about students in this way because I get to show them God's love by my example, even though I cannot talk about God at all. I always pray for my students and get to pretty much be a spiritual mother to them. I ask that Mother Mary would protect, care, and guide them when I am not able to and she helps me to work on the "spiritual motherhood" aspect of teaching. If I am forced to end up teaching something that goes against my beliefs, I know I will have to quit teaching in public education and I just don't feel very comfortable about teaching at a public school anyway. However, I know I will have to do it for a little while unless I end up in a situation that could lead me to teach about something that goes against my beliefs early in my career. I still pray that there may be some opportunity to perhaps teach at a Catholic school that would have the funding and resources for students with special needs that I could teach at or some other opportunity where I can use my degree to work with children or students with special needs that only involves a curriculum that was created to be based on the teachings of the Catholic faith. There needs to be more of an effort to make Catholic education more affordable, accessible and accommodating to students that may not afford it otherwise, as well as students with special needs or learning disabilities.

I just enrolled my kids to Mother of Divine Grace School its a catholic distance education with homeschooling consulting services. Never did I see myself doing this but I felt God calling me to do this 💜 just trusting in God I know He has great plans💞💞

I truly want to homeschool my three children, but I have severe ADHD myself and have lots of trouble managing everyday life even with medication. I know I wouldn’t be able to give them a fair shot at a good education. I really wish I could though! I really need some prayers about this because we can’t afford private school and I dread sending them to public. 😔

There are so many ways to homeschool. I would look into unschooling in particular. But it is also a humble honesty to say that you just wouldnt be able to do it. It is not for everyone. And many Catholic schools have great scholarship programs to help families in all income brackets. Good luck.

I know homeschooling can seem crazy and stressful, but I agree. Look into unschooling! There are so many easy ways to help your kids learn. There are many great curriculums that can be used as a guide, but many kids do great with independent hands on real life learning!

I would really like to Echo that comment! Please, if you have access to a good Catholic School talk to them and see if they will work with you. They do not want cost to be a barrier to families pursuing Catholic Education for their children. The school's out here use TADS for financial aid and our Parish priest will also meet with families and work with them to allow them to pay what they can genuinely afford.

I can't speak for you because I don't know what you're going through, but if I were you, I wouldn't be able to put them through public school without getting to know teachers, volunteering, and making sure the kids aren't learning crap. Monitor the CRAP outta them because it takes just one seed of doubt to get kids to leave the faith.

My children are grown. I’m Christian and my family is home schooling because of all the things you talked about. Thank you. God bless.

I totally sympathized with you when you said it’s hard to teach certain subjects to your kids. I definitely struggle with teaching my kiddos sometimes. I went to Catholic school from first through seventh. We moved and I’m not sure the reason but I started in public school. I feel like honestly I might be different had I gone all through school in the Catholic faith.

I absolutely love Seton homeschool curriculum. They sent a book with the curriculum for parents called the Catholic parent homeschooling handbook and it really solidified why we chose to homeschool

Did you choose the whole curriculum or just enroll in individual classes? Do they have any online classes or is it all parent led?

I felt the same way. I went to public school, my husband to Catholic, yet he and his siblings fell away from the faith. I converted and my husband reverted to the Catholic faith when the children were young. All three sons went to public school with the last graduating in2018. Our oldest son has Aspergers, the UNMC is now chemically casterating him with hormones and cancer drugs. He didn't have one iota of an appearance of gender dysphoria growing up. His peers, his schooling, the culture and medical community has convinced him that he has it and that it's the only way to treat it. He's been in the ER twice because of the drugs given to him. There is nothing we can do because he is of age. He is now an atheist. God have mercy, please pray for him and our family. Listen, please listen to her words because the wolves are devouring our children right under our noses. Make sure it's a good Catholic school, CCD was iffy too. The Parish priest at the time wouldn't allow a mural of Our Lady and he chastised during mass that people were outside the Vatican praying for St. John Paul II. Many red flags that I felt but didn't act on. From experience I beg you 🙏all not to be complacent, the souls of our children truly depend on what and how they are being taught when they are young and vulnerable. My city is now going to be implementing "gender" teaching their way. Just as they did my vulnerable mildly autistic adult son when he left our home.

Good decision! We are in Texas and we do like the public school here but that is not enough. We attend an SSPX chapel and we are blessed that they have an academy from pre K-8th. It will cost some money but it’s doable and I’m leaving that part up to God and I’m sure he will provide. We are actually getting a tour of the school tomorrow. There is also a diocese catholic school nearby as well but they are very expensive and I’m sorry to say but the liberal ideas have infiltrated catholic schools hence our family coming into the SSPX for 3 years now. But I think you nailed it, the soul of our children is more important! Catechism begins at home though with a healthy family life based on God and the sacraments modeled after the holy family! Thank you for sharing! Another great video. My feelings are mixed on the subject matter. I grew up attending public schools but the rest of my childhood was immersed in faith. I completed high school more recently than you and your husband. I remember times when teachers would send letters home asking for permission to show us certain films or discuss certain topics. My parents always signed off on it allowing me to see it or talk about it because they didn’t want me to feel “sheltered” from what is out in the “real world”. I would proceed to come home from school and discuss with them in detail. Luckily for me, I received my first sex ed conversation from my Mom when I was relatively young because she didn’t want me to hear about it at school first. My parents were never the type of parents who said babies came from a stork dropping it off on the front porch, gave me the birds and bees analogy, or even had me believing in Santa or the Easter Bunny. They were always so transparent and honest with me. Something I truly appreciate to this day. I have considered Catholic schooling for my future children and sometimes wish I would have experienced it. I have childhood friends who went to Catholic school, some despised it and others loved the experience. My Mom had a blended experience of Catholic school and then public school for high school. She had a terrible experience in the Catholic school system, and truly enjoyed her high school years the most. I know some children have grown to unfortunately resent their parents for not allowing them to sit in on those discussions or films in public school and/or having them attend Catholic school. It is definitely a hard decision in this day and age. More worldly things are being taught in public school and you are correct that all Catholic schools aren’t good. I would be open to homeschooling my children, I pray that God would bless me with a schedule I could do that if I needed to do so.

My situation was similar to yours. We live in a top school district for our state. They were teaching things I didn't want my children to be exposed to. My youngest goes to Catholic school and absolutely loves it! My 12 and 16 year old I home school. I did homeschool my youngest last year, his kindergarten year. I was SO scared to homeschool. I cried so much with the feelimg of inadequacy. I spoke with a very Godly woman who runs a peivate Christian school and she encouraged me and prayed over me. She told me that I am the BEST teacher for my children because God gave them to me and I know my children better than anyone else. I was SUPER afraid of failing my youngest with the phonics (just like you). But I did it! So, I used ABC's with Ace and Kristi from the Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum. I followed the lesson plans exactly, and like magic Henry had it down! He was also reading by the end of kindergarten! You can do it! I use 'Catholic Homeschool Curricula' for my 12 year old. I think you should look into it. My 12 year old was on an I.E.P. in public school and does perfectly wonderful at home and loves it. Sorry this post is so long, but I identified so much with everything you said.

My 10th grade daughter never wanted to participate in those classes her school offered, she always would tell me to sign something but to check the box where it said She's NOT allowed to participate in that stuff. I am homeschooling my kids this year but I'm not sure if I'll do it next year again, I may or may not change my mind on that....I liked it but my son is not learning much at home. Prayers needed! 🙏

I so agree with everything your saying! I taught for 10 years in public school and it wasn’t as bad. It has really changed in the last 5-7 years. I homeschool now and I feel like God was calling me to get my kids out of the public school system.

When you posted the original video, I had just experienced my own conversion towards homeschooling (or Catholic schools, but the price range makes that not the right option for us). I never ever ever ever ever thought i would come to that decision and it was the biggest surprise of my life but God asked me, and I said yes, and I felt a bubbling of joy in my heart that has not left since that day in regards to our choice for schooling! I am a long distance teacher with Mother of Divine Grace and working with the families and students and other teachers was a big part of the conversion of my heart. I started working there thinking i would still send my own kids to public school... but God totally worked on my heart! I totally understood your original views because I held them myself for so long and now our current views match exactly (Except that we are doing homeschool rather than Catholic school- but i would totally be open to faithful Catholic schools if we could afford it. However I do also love the aspect of more time with my kids that homeschooling entails so even if finances were not an issue I believe we would still choose schooling at home). Thank you for being a witness of the importance of forming our children in the faith- it is our greatest calling!

Selecting how to educate my kids has been one of the toughest decisions, and my oldest is only 6!! I can only imagine going forward.

If you're near one, there's a system of charter schools called Great Hearts that is free and classical-based education. They aren't explicitly Catholic but do provide a more traditional education while also being a great resource for lower-income families

Such a great video Heather! My kids were in public school thru 4th grade. We moved them to a great Catholic school thru 8th grade. We had 2 Catholic high school options and sadly we chose the wrong one and wasted 2 years there...they switched this year and are thriving! Their all on the college hunt now and refuse to settle for anything but a “real “ Catholic college!

I will be finishing my first year homeschooling this June. I enrolled mine in Seton homestudy school. I LOVE it. The lesson plans are easy to follow and adjust to your childs needs. The books are so beautiful. My kids love them too. I will keep doing Seton and I recommend it.

Hey! I agree on the indoctrination. I was in advanced learning programs, and they taught open mindedness and logic. But, there was so much influence of the world in the public schools, even in the Bible Belt. One thing that can make a difference is having an extracurricular club. The school can’t discriminate based on religion, so they have to let the club exist. I’m praying right now that my children will be in good Catholic schools next year.

I def appreciate your candid opinion and insights into what is important when choosing a Catholic school, homeschooling curriculum or whatever they will do with their children. We def should be our kids' advocates through these formative years.

I went to Catholic Elementary and High School. I did not get good Catechism until we found the TLM in AZ. We also did private, public, and charter schools with many issues. Thank God we were called to homeschool and have been for 14 years and we still have 4 more littles to go! After so many curriculums we have found our foundation in Memoria Press. We appreciate how much are children are exposed to through a classical curriculum.

I used to be a homeschool mom (protestant) and I must admit I was judgemental. Due to some traumatic life issues, I ended up going through a divorce, experiencing the single mom life, and by God's Grace converting to Catholicism and being granted an annulment. That being said, I have been so humbled. I had no choice but to send my kids to public school, and hated it. I have since found the opportunity to send my babies to Catholic school. And as much as I truly loved homeschool, it's not an option at this point. We don't all fit in the same square hole, but we are in the same team. We should support one another as Catholic mommies

My oldest daughter started reading at 2 years old. I bought a program called, your baby can read. I think it was around $200 back then. It flip’n worked. I recommend that to anyone having a baby. She is the reason we homeschool. I was never going to do that. God is incredible. 😊

We homeschool with Seton, we love it! Phonics was hard at first. I have a four year degree in teaching from a Big 10 school and honestly we didn’t learn enough for me to be able to homeschool on my degree alone- it takes practice, like anything else! If you end up homeschooling, find local moms and dads to help you get started and give you tips. I just recently found your channel! It’s so nice to listen to another Catholic mom! Regarding your thoughts on homeschooling…. I started homeschooling my three boys last year, not because of the pandemic but because things started to go sour when my oldest son went to middle school and my middle son was in fifth grade. The issues increase as they get into older grades! The first year of homeschooling is difficult because it is quite an adjustment from public school. For my older two, it was an adjustment, for my youngest who was going into second grade, it was easy. We use Seton Homeschool. They are wonderful, and their Catholic religion curriculum is excellent! Don’t worry about thinking that you can’t teach… it is practically spelled out for you in the curriculum and my kids have gotten a wonderful education since we started homeschooling. They actually are starting to develop a love of learning which was not there during their years at public school. Once they reach older grades and like my oldest is in high school, a lot of the learning is independent so you don’t need to know chemistry or algebra in order to “teach” them. Homeschooling is WONDERFUL!! I never thought I would do it but this was God’s plan for my husband and I and our kids. It’s a completely different concept from a school. It’s about family and a love of learning. There is always learning going on - even when we aren’t “officially” doing schoolwork! Seton’s director, Mary Kay Clark, wrote a book called “Catholic Homeschooling” if you are interested. There are other wonderful resources too, such as HSLDA.org. Even Seton’s website has many resource articles to read if you want to start or are new to starting homeschool. I’ve only been watching you for a little while but just seeing that much, I can tell that you would be GREAT at homeschooling. Just a little food for thought!

Heather you were totally spot-on! God bless you for advocating for your children and raising them up to be virtuous so that when they go into this world they can glorify God. Public Schools, private schools, Catholic schools, Charter Schools, all vary depending on the state you live in. Many people where I live conflate schools with a good academic program as also being good for raising Catholic children simply because they are in conservative communities. They are still run by the state though, in the case of public and charter schools here. No one else will advocate for our children except us, and God gave them to us to help them become Saints and go to heaven. God bless you and your husband. And God bless your parents for raising you up to be an authentic Catholic! It is so hard to raise kids in this time in this culture and in this world that wants to tear down even a nascent of faith. I sympathize and I empathize because I am trying to navigate it with my husband as we raise our three beautiful children

Oh my goodness!!! I seriously thought I was the only one who didn't feel like I could homeschool. I have been home schooling them with Seton for a few months now and still feel like we aren't getting anywhere and am really hoping to find them a really good Catholic school to go to. I sure hope I can find one near us. Update: I found out our superintendent is a wonderful Catholic man and works super hard to keep indoctrination out of our school and absolutely does not allow the bathroom and locker room to be mixed. Seeing all the things that go on in schools on the Grassroots Army YT channel, I feel super blessed with our public school!!

So how do you choose a good one?

My children are all grown and I was really torn about where to send them. I wanted Catholic school but at the same time I remembered how awful some of my classmates could be. Even when my first daughter turned 5 and we were looking into schools, we were told that a lot of students in the Catholic schools (particularly the girls), especially when they got into middle school and high school, were spoiled and mean. We opted for the public school in a small town, and we moved 15 miles so the kids could attend there and my husband wasn't too far from work. It was pretty conservative and I think they got a good education. All four went to college and are becoming professionals. It's not an easy choice and varies so much from school to school. Even during my Catholic school years (I went for 8 years) I really didn't learn the faith and I didn't see a whole lot of authentic Catholic living. I look on websites now (I went to school during the pre-Internet age) and many say that they accept children of all faiths. So how authentic can they be in their teaching methods? Many parents seem to want their children to be there simply for the prestige, not the faith. If I was raising children now I would probably opt for homeschooling. There are so many resources and support systems now. Even in my small-town parish (the town itself is only 3000 people) the homeschool families are thriving. We also have a good faithful traditional priest who just came in 2011 and he as made the difference.

Great advice for all catholic parents. You do some really thorough research, God bless your efforts. There's an awful lot in that head of yours, it's hard to believe it. Hubby must be very proud.

I am Lutheran. I would have enjoyed teaching at my home church. Not sure about elsewhere. I wish I could have home schooled Bobby.

Greetings 🫖☕ Good morning you have great topics I enjoy to listen to your advice....I went to catholic private school for 9 years I enjoyed the structure and Guidance I didn't understand some things and had lots of questions but kept the questions to myself....When I went to college I researched my questions as a child that I had on the Scaraments, bible studies and having children out of wedlock.....I noticed that some parents leave it to the teachers to teach children about sex education..... Catholic schools don't teach sex education but teach about marriage......🤺💕🌹🦁🙏 At age 5, I wanted to become a nun and told the mama then she put me in Catholic school

I am 60, a cradle Catholic, and went though Catholic schools grades 1-12. I have never heard of the thinking that it can end faithfulness for Catholics. Everyone is different, I grant you, and yes, it could be and probably is generational, but I am still Catholic, my kids went through their sacraments, and I work at a Catholic school and have for 13 years. I have fond memories of Catholic school.

Correct! Thank you very much for posting this comment! I went to Catholic School for girls in Puerto Rico during the 70s and 80s and definitely impressed me with the most profound religious values. It is true that not everyone will get the benefit but it is a very personal choice! Blessings forever!

We homeschool and use an eclectic mix. Seton, memoria, IEW. I'm a certified teacher. If anyone needs help with homeschooling please ask me! Also, you can use 'Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons' around the age of 4 or 5. Then use All about reading level 1. Fantastic for teaching how to read (phonics, comprehension etc).

First year home schooling using Gather round and listening to a kids Catholic podcast with my 6 year old . We learn about all types of topics but I didn’t know there was Catholic specific curriculum. Can some of you share your favorite for 1st grader going into 2nd grade curriculum? Thanks in advance !

When I first dive into homeschool I went with Mother of Divine Grace which was really nice but 3 years in I have learned to pull from different programs to really tailor everything to my kids and it has been fantastic!

Homeschooler here! We homeschool through literature mostly and use a wide variety of curriculum. The Good and the Beautiful has some stuff we use, Harcourt complete is a cheap workbook we utilize, Singapore math.

This makes me very upset in general, that the public schools feel no need to disclose to parents what they’ll be teaching. I’m just tearful that we are located near a very faithful genuine classical Catholic School and high school , we’ll be sending our children there. Welcome to the DMV area, wonderful location but this is extremely common in schools here. my niece was taught the different sexual orientation flags.. in so-called art class when she was in 5th grade. 😠

As a mom sending my soon to be 5 year old boy to kindergarten, what in your view was the most objectionable for public school in the very early years? I’m mostly worried about gender identity/sex ed related. We’re in PA currently

I pulled my 3 kids out of public and now they are in catholic. But I hear so many great podcast to take them out of catholic as well. (Mother Miriam) I guess if u are lucky to have a orthodox catholic school then that would be good. I’m still searching!

We use Kolbe Academy. Our oldest "schools from home" rather than traditional homeschool (they have a great homeschooling option as well and has no problem with you adding/modifying other classes from other curricula in addition to those from them to meet your particular needs/desires for your child). For him, that live interaction (online) with a teach and a class full of other kids was a better fit given how absolutely extroverted and social he is (combined with him being in a brick & mortar school through most of the 7th grade). That is not to say that he is in front of a computer for 7-9 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Their live, online option is based on a university style scheduling (e.g. class is 65min x 2 days a week, or 80min once a week), so (other than doing parts of homework that may need the computer, he's only on it for maybe 3 1/2 to "sometimes" 4 hrs a day.

Anyone struggling in the early years of homeschooling, Kindergarten and 1st grade are the hardest. It’s because you have to teach yourself how to explain concepts to someone who has never heard of what you’re talking about. I’m in my 7th year of homeschooling and 6th grade math and language is SO much easier than 1st grade. 🤣 I’ve gotten better with each kid and know that the trial and error those first couple of years was well worth it in the long run. 🤗

After eight years of Catholic grade school I knew absolutely nothing about the faith. Fortunately all that has changed, but it was a waste of money at the time.

I homeschool my kindergartner for the same reasons. I have complete control over what my children are exposed to and what they are not exposed to. Plus, it strengthens sibling and family bonds. Next year, I'm going to be using The Good & The Beautiful for Math and Language Arts, Under the Home for History, Blossom & Root for science, and Writing Our Catholic Faith for handwriting. Once I get a little more confident in my own homeschool then I want to try either Ambleside Online or Mater Amabilis, the later is a free Catholic curriculum.

Hi ! Question ! It sounds like you are military ?! My husband is Navy we’ve been stationed in VA and now in North Carolina moving every three years. We currently homeschool but considering the Infant of Prague catholic school here in Jacksonville- I’m so curious if that was the school your son attended here in NC ?! Seton home school. When starting it was a huge sacrifice on my time with managing the household. But, over time I realized what a blessing it was to be able to teach my children the traditional Catholic faith that is hard to find nowadays.
