ArtSurgery it’s meant to be twisted. It’s based off the experience and tormented imagination of the lead dev. How in the end, both are their own sort of hell that merge together and lead to the same darkness.

Even within the house of god Isaac is not safe. The cathedral is easily the most terrifying level in the game as despite being in a cathedral Isaac still imagines himself as under attack by numerous monsters showing his animosity towards religon.

More like religion seems innately hostile towards Isaac. even his own 'what mother wished I were' embodiment that you fight as the boss is actively hostile towards Isaac. It's not like Isaac is the instigator of hostility, enemies attack you no matter what, after all. When you look at it as with how Isaac's mother has gone full nuts with religious dogma, it makes sense that a little kid like Isaac would see anything religious as hostile and dangerous.

Whatever the translation is, it's pretty cool. Also kudos on learning Latin, I hear that language is hell to learn.

considering i always play as Azazel and solely took angel room items my runs always turned into the journey of a repenting demon trying to make it back to heaven as in the bible he's a fallen angel and was cast down for giving humans the forbidden knowledge and when i get to the final boss of the cathedral (issac) it was kinda like the good vs evil type fight as azael is basically issac as a demon.

Yeah azazel is what isaac thinks of himself in the story every othor character is just isaac (also isaac is confused with his gender so Maggie and lilth do make sense) (I'm not sure on lilith but I guess that's just up to specualation) also blue baby is dead isaac and isaac is dead after the ending of the game. Isaac is his hatred of himself Delirium is his mind becoming crazed The hush is his last dying breaths The skeleton in the chest (in the ending not the forgotten) and blue baby are his dead body The keeper is another thing The keeper is isaac's sin being greed. I'm getting bored typing so I'd suggest you look up the isaac lore bc it's interesting Edmund McMillan has very deep stories for his games even super meatboy! Anyways I'll be going

+david de haan Well, The boss for the Cathedral is Isaac, so it might be referring to Isaac being made to essentially prepare himself, and not fear what's left of him, either what he's become or the Isaac he's about to fight. All my opinion though, could mean something utterly different

It's a bit unfortunate that "my innermost apocalypse" is overrated. I'm not saying that it's bad, or that you shouldn't like it, because, it's great if you have a favourite soundtrack. But funnily enough, I hate it lol. Enmity of the Dark Lord was my favourite classic isaac soundtrack. And now the Hymn is my favourite rebirth soundtrack.

This level and soundtrack is way more ominous and unsettling for me than sheol, like, fuck Satan, with this song in the background i feel god is gonna wipe the floor with me any minute now, glorious.

I remember first hearing this and thinking it said "excrement"... ...and in future runs I kept singing this to myself as I walked into a room full of Dips.

Lots of people saying what the Latin is 100% when translated into English. Except, IIRC, the guy that made the music said he basically shoved together some good sounding Latin words. He never made it with the intention of it sounding good when translated. I mean, that's the reasoning, but it also kind of fits with Isaac, given that he's a kid so if he DID know any Latin it'd probably just be a series of nonsense words.

gibhib latin student here , I can prove that the translations are all false. Dei is dative or plural of deus, which means god, and reliquum est looks like an invective form of relinquo, to recede, in the perfect passive form, which wouldn translate to "gods, because/which have been abandoned. Nolite metuere is just don't fear in the imperative form. Et means and , tua and ossa are the same case and gender, so it's your bones, and liberabit is in the future form, which makes it "and he will free your bones, and expectans is a participle form of expecto, to wait . So the whole translation would be " the gods, which have been abandoned, do not fear, and he will free your bones, waiting. That just makes no sense

THERE IS BIG CONFUSION. Saxon people are of no use when dealing with latin in most of the cases, so I traveled from Minnesota to Vatican City, and asked a cardinal to translate the lyrics of this song for the sake of the internet: Dei, quod reliquum est, nolite metuere. De ossa tua liberabit, expectans. = You shall not fear what remains of God. Awaiting, he will free you from your bones. Now you can spaculate on the hidden meaning but at least the translation has been solved once and for all. Dei is genivive, nolite is imperative plural, quod reliquum est refers to dei: what remains of god, you shall not fear. Awaiting (expectans), he will free you (liberabit) from your bones (de ossa tue). HOWEVER, the cardinal told me that there is another translation as correct as the first one: Dei, quod reliquum est, nolite metuere. De ossa tua liberabit, expectans. = Oh gods, do not be afraid of what remains. The one who waits, will free you from your bones. "Dei" can be genitive singular or nominative/vocative plural. In this case is nominative plural, because the verb: nolite is plural and refers to dei. So dei=gods, and is the subject of the first sentence. Expectans is the subject of the second phrase. Actually, I think that the first translation is the one that make more sense and the cardinal (Monsignor Novarese) agreed with me. It always gives me a false sense of security being bright and clean. Also makes me think even tho it's a holy place it somehow reminds me even here those that dwell are hypocrites themselves...like there hiding something but also looking down from above judging lol.

I love this theme

To be honest, I sing this hymn as I clear the cathedral...it gives me a feeling of solace and safety. It sounds amazing and nothing will ever beat it. (I sing the hymn in Latin, although my Latin is not the best I'm practising.)

Nice theme :thumbsup: the extended version is just perfect. I wonder about their lyrics - haven't played the game, though.

My favorite song in the whole game. One of the reasons I go to The Chest to fight Mega Satan. Also because Isaac is a way easier fight that Satan.

If Anyone cares It actually sais something like: You who relies on God, do not worry(or "do not Be afraid"),and(or " for") he will liberate You of your bones, expect IT. This isnt perfect but either way I just can't bear IT anymore to hear that "and he will give You strength" thing and what not, absolute nonsense. But sure, go with the other one If You don't believe me.

Really love the Cathedral and the fellings this music passes while playing, I find it very funny that the entire game runs kinda slow on my computer, but in Cathedral it gets so fast that I get very nervous since I cannot accompany everything that goes on XDD
