20+ years ago i bought a 1936 D4. Needing a few parts I thought id have all sorts of trouble. A track pad, clutch lining, a couple of seals and brake pads. Went to dealer,,,he reached behind him on a nearby shelf and handed them to me!! You dont get that with any other brand,,its what keeps Cat used prices at the top. I know of a guy in calif,,,still logs some,,,,uses a 1919 cat,,,,what can i say??? HA!

Long stroke gives a lot of torque on moderate horsepower. There was also a straight 6 diesel of 1250 revs 172 horse. Used in boats dredgers waterpumps.

R d8 rpm is around 850 r

6 3/4 " bore and a 8 1/2" stroke. just over 18 L lol

that's one of the reason i pick it up it was a good price and i feel that it will be a handy thing to have around after a little tlc. it all work but needs some love.

Seen a lot of those on a display pad ... probably stuck, and not runable. That is probably one of two that I've heard run. Definitely have a sound of their own. I don't think I'd like to feed one of those at full load for a day ... not at today's fuel prices.

diggerop Yeah but the octane required is only 66. It's fine with unleaded with up to 10% alcohol, too. Go around shops scrounging all the stale gas they throw away and mix in a barrel of cleaning solvent, diesel, charcoal lighter and paint thinner and a little fresh gas and away you go.

well Cat for some there really quite good for some things. make one out of 2 that kinda thing. he has owned this one since the 50's. you better watch the video again as it's said how much. stock was 72 HP but this one is far from stock any more ;)
