CATERPILLAR 785 OFF HIGHWAY ROCK TRUCK ARIZONA PROVING GROUNDS 52434

This sales film from Caterpillar highlights the C 785 Off-Highway Truck by showing the machine in action at the company’s Arizona Proving Grounds. C 785s drive on dirt roads. The film shows the 785 from various angles (00:50), giving viewers a look at the truck’s folded core radiator, dual turbo-charged 3512 engine, and rear-mounted six-speed transmission. A man climbs up into a 785 (02:16), and viewers get a look at the cab. The dump bed is lifted. The film then shows the cylinder block of the 3512 engine (03:22); Caterpillar employees build the components of the engine in a production warehouse (likely at the Decatur, IL plant). Several men put the engine together (05:15). A 3512 engine is tested, and a man monitors the data on a computer screen (05:30). The 785 starts driving and the operator steers the heavy mining truck past other 785s. The truck cruises along a dirt road (07:50) hauling a load of rock. The 785 hauls a load of rock up a hill (09:00); it then drives over dirt speed bumps with a full load to test its shocks (09:45). Data from a test drive of the 785 is transferred to a van driving next to the truck, which is a mobile observation center and records the data (12:48). In a laboratory, a man tests various components of the truck (13:48). A 785 climbs up a 22% grade during the testing phase (15:25). A 785 demonstrates breaking as the narrator explains the Caterpillar braking system (16:38). The off-highway truck comes to a hard stop (17:55). The film shows a microprocessor-controlled transmission being tested in the Caterpillar facility (18:18), and then the film concludes with several more shots of the 785 performing various jobs at the company’s proving grounds.

I am so happy I found this. The music was incredible. And the guy in the Cubs hat reminded me of my late father. All around 5 stars, would totally recommend to a stranger on the internet!

This beast would probably fit in the bed of the 797F they make now. Great film, it really was more like a movie than a sales presentation. Cat should watch all their old films. They are better than the new ones. Shake Hands With Danger is the Citizen Kane of safety films.

Thanks, Periscope! A-PLUS! Cat makes a fine truck. And the way they're set up, if you can heard one, you can heard all the newer ones. Very little differences between. I really like the self shifting trannys. Thanks again!

I just mountain biked up that old test road and back down it, it’s a lot cooler than they showed in the ad. I just now started looking for a video of this to see what they tested up there, and this seems to be the only video I found

How times have changed. Operator walks up in his shirt sleeves. Now you would have to have a damn Yellow vest and reflective pants...sigh. The 769 truck looks like a wheel barrow when you put them side by side!

I can't imagine how hard it was to mount cameras under that machine I remember when I was a little kid in the late 90s we had a video camera that had a carryin case that was slightly bigger than a briefcase. And I imagine this was filmed before then!

My guess China....remember CAT Was not willing to pay their fair share in taxes. And decided that they were going to put their money offshore in the foreign bank so that they did not have to pay taxes on it. One of the many benefits of being a multi million dollar company. If you did that you would go to jail!

Small by today's standards, but still neat. They could use a water wagon, but I suppose dust is easier to deal with than 6 inches of mud if they want to look at anything. Put an L&M radiator in and you'd have something.
