Raw, 4K footage of intense Category 4 Hurricane Ida as it made landfall in Southwest Louisiana on August 27, 2020. We intercepted the eyewall and calm eye from the small town of Mathews, where we received wind gusts of over 120 mph, perhaps stronger. Many power lines and trees were snapped, and numerous buildings received significant damage.

You got lucky to get the eye. We didn't get a break. We rode the eye wall. We got slammed from nearly noon until nearly midnight. So, about 10 or so hours it was slammed us nonstop. I appreciate y'all risking y'all lives to get the footage though. I know it's rough. But, we're going to rebuild. This is home. Thanks for the support. I really do appreciate everyone that has been helping us in every way down here on the bayou and surrounding areas. From Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Saying much love to y'all out there

That's the scariest storm I have ever been through. I was in that exact location. Ive never evacuated for a hurricane in my life. I will definitely not be staying for anything above a cat 2 ever again. The strongest eye wall of the storm just sat above our area for hours. 150 mph winds the whole damn time. My house is up off the ground, so it was just swaying back and forth. The wind broke our screen door off, and then blew open our front door so forcefully it ripped the entire dead bolt lock off the door and we had to pile up furniture and sit on it to keep the door shut. Terrifying. Very thankful my house is still standing. Tho it has thousands of dollars in damage at the very least. I guarantee every building and home here has at least that much damage, every house had to have tarps, two story houses are now 1 story. It's insane

Great footage man. I'm from houma but I work out in mathews and Lockport. You picked the right hurricane to come down too cause we have NEVER seen a hurricane do this much damage. @@MadWXChasingoh the people here know what to do when this situation occurs. And a good thing that comes out of it is the community gets together and helps out. It really shows the southern hospitality here lol. i find it was worse than katrina if you exclude the new Orleans leevee giving in. They're saying for Terrebonne and lafouche (I'm from here and can't even spell it right) to fully get powered is on the 29th. And that alone shows how powerful this was. They actually do recatagorize hurricanes after the fact sometimes. We got hit by hurricane zeta last year and when it hit it was a cat 2 but they changed it a few months later to cat 3. Also hurricane Andrew hit Florida as a cat 4 and now it’s considered a cat 5. There’s nothing official that Ida will be reconsidered as a cat 5 but there’s reports that it will be strongly considered

Dude you are a fantastic videographer and great chaser, this being one of the many examples proving it. My big question is this: how did you manage to keep the camera from getting ruined in all that blowing rain??
@MadWXChasing
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words, Ethan! That’s a great question…I nearly had to retire my camera after Hurricane Laura last year, as water got into the LCD screen and caused it to malfunction. Thankfully, it dried up and returned to normal. To avoid anything like that in Ida here, I had a towel/cloth handy at all times. I would film for little spurts and then immediately wipe it down after. I bought a plastic cover for the camera but it didn’t really fit and was a hassle to use, so I nixed it and was just very careful to wipe it down frequently.

If I lived in any area of the US that has hurricanes I would have a Deltec home or purchase a round hurricane proof home from a company that specialises in this. I don't care if it doesn't look fancy on the exterior, what matters is my home is protected. Why keep rebuilding homes the same old fashion way just for them to be destroyed over and over again, that is what is wrong with people that insist upon living in these areas only to waste time and money. So sad.

@@lisanorton9746 I know that the poor are stuck and really don't have the means to buy a new home once the old one is destroyed or move to another state. But all homes should be be built to withstand certain categories of hurricanes at least. We all have to unite together and stop this global reset that is going to enslave people even further because if we don't Blackrock will own the majority of homes and we will be a nation of renters.
