Catching Sea Trout with Float and Ultralight Lure Setup - Shore Fishing UK Scotland

Ойын-сауық

Shore Fishing For Beginners. This was a short Morning shore fishing session, fishing with the bombarda float. I was targeting bass with the bombarda float with ultra light lures. Instead of catching bass I did manage to catch sea trout and Mackerel instead.
In the video I demonstrate how I use the bombarda float and how the float is setup. You will see in the video how effective the bombarda really is at catching sea trout even though this was not my target species.

    Put another flie on your leader, most of the time, the fish will hook the smaller top flie. Use Hard Mono 0,40 mm for the top flie.

    If your unsure about how do i stop at the right time, tie on the bombarda without your trace, whack out a few casts to fresh the line lie on your reel, then next cast wind in a few turns place some electrical tape/masking tape over the line just a 1/2 inch to inch tab not some massive wind of tape its justt to indicate a point ,then wind in. now tie on your leader then cast as the line reaches short of your max range youll see the tape and know to check your cast and help turn over the leader length, till your used to using it then you'll get the feel for checking and turning over a leader and fly from a fixed spool reel and you can stop using the tape check.

  • @PiscatorUK-Fishing

    @PiscatorUK-Fishing

    Personally I prefer the translucent bombardas as the white ones are usually floating or intermediate. I can make the translucent bombardas come to the surface just by working it a bit faster during the retrieve so I don’t use the white ones. I can’t really comment on which one has a better catching performance.

  • @PiscatorUK-Fishing

    @PiscatorUK-Fishing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Dave, the 25gram is what I use. The bombarda being close or on the surface is common. Usually caused by to fast a retrieve or jerking to fast. Try a slower retrieve and working it slower. You can also try retrieve and pause by stopping the retrieve the bombarda will sink a few feet again. If there’s a bit of chop on the water I haven’t had an issue catching fish when there’s a wake behind the bombarda. Same with the splash of the float on the water, I usually cast well beyond the fish, which are usually closer in the shallower water. When the float hits the clip try and use the action of the rod to absorb the the impact. A big splash could be caused by the float falling from a higher higher, maybe try a lower trajectory cast. Hope the helps mate, tight lines. Just one question on rigging the float, is the tail of the float at the leader swivel or the bulb? Ie when you’re retrieving the float does it come in tail first?

    Thanks for commenting. A long leader with a long rod is fine, I don’t try to cast a long way and the leader is shorter than the rod so no real issues with landing a fish. Great question. As you know if you’ve caught sea trout they are notorious for going airborne. I try to keep the rod low to try and keep the fish down in the water. I find it does help. It won’t stop them jumping completely but it can help reduce it. Thanks for commenting buddy👍

    Hi Ed, the rod you have sounds ok mate, nothing wrong with a stiff rod but if it feels heavy to you then maybe go for something a bit lighter. I started using a 10ft steelhead iconic by Ron Thomson, DAM do them too but for some reason the 10ft is hard to get hold of. A rod I would like to try is the Abu Garcia Orra which is available in 10 and 11ft but never used it, just looks like it will do the job and don’t know how it will feel in terms of weight. To be honest Ed, I don’t like recommending gear if I’ve never used it. Many thanks Douglas

    Hello Piscator question about fishing with the bombarda what is +- the casting weight of the rod for example can you also use a federrod to fish with the bombarda the advantage of the federrod is that you ussually have a few tips with it so you can exchange more for more or less hardness in the top i would like to receive your response greetings Willem

  • @PiscatorUK-Fishing

    Hi Willem, yes you can use a feeder rod, I would recommend using a stiff tip. I have just started using the Shakespeare Omni class feeder rod 11ft for the bombarda. It has a casting weight 15-60 gram and I use the 2oz tip. As the feeder rod is purposely build for fresh water, I would recommend whashing it in fresh water after using in the sea or estuaries otherwise the rod guides will corrode quickly. Thanks for your questions very much appreciated.

    Hi, I wonder if you could clarify, your set up from braid to fluorocarbon, I guess you are casting this through the guides? because you mention its 2 1/2 ft to the swivel, then your trace 9ft. I have a 8'8ft rod so the I am interested if you use a FG knot to enable the knot to flow through the guides easily, or are you stopping joining knot before it hits the guides. The videos are very informative, thanks for the content. 🐟

    Hi Graham no problem mate and thanks for watching and commenting. Yes I use the FG knot, I think it’s one of the best braid to fluoro/mono knots. My rubbing leader to the bombarda does go though my guides, probably the top 4. You hardly hear or feel it during the cast. The only time you know it’s there is when you wind it in. Hope this helps buddy👍

    @@michaelhocking9037 no problem, I use 29lb J braid 8 strand, it might sound a bit heavy but it’s very fine diameter. 20lb braid would probably do. I use approx 2-3 feet of 13lb fluoro, I use the FG knot to join braid to leader. I think I demonstrated it on my shock leader video. But there are many great tutorials on KZread. So this section is just to give protection to the braid during casting. Feed the fluoro through bombarda and a small rubber bead and tie onto a small swivel. Then attach your leader, it doesn’t need to be fluoro, I just like it for its abrasion resistance.

The set up is braid to 24inch 13lb Fluoro, braid to leader knot is the FG knot. Line through the bombarda onto swivel, I use the double Davy knot for fluoro or mono under 15lb . Then fluoro whatever length your comfortable casting as long as you can manage tied onto the lure, usually use a non-slip loop knot.
