Catching DUNGENESS CRAB on the WORLD'S LONGEST Spit! Catch Clean Cook

Ойын-сауық

Catching DUNGENESS CRAB on the WORLD'S LONGEST Spit! Catch Clean Cook
After an extremely successful day drifting down the river catching cohos and chinooks (king & silver salmom) we switched gears and went crabbing for Dungeness crabs! To our surprise we baited the traps, dropped them to sea floor and only had to wait one hour for the crabs to arrive. We spent the hour visiting the worlds longest spit (similar to a jetty), the Dungeness lighthouse and said hello to some local seals. Once the hour passed we went and pulled all eight of our traps and loaded the cooler with the delicious dungeness crabs! In our last efforts to go home with our limit of crabs we attempted to catch some on hook and line! After a cold morning on the bay we headed to Karry’s house for the ultimate salmon and crab cookout!
Stay tuned because we have a BIG SECRET to reveal in this video series 😆

I'm glad you got to experience what I grew up doing and loving so much! We always boiled ours whole. Anyway, now I much prefer fishing the Gulf (Louisiana) but dropping pots for Dungies is straight up AWESOME!! As one of your first followers, it's truly AWESOME seeing how much you keep expanding-and you've been eclectic from the beginning! Endlessly proud of you Emily & Amanda, Twinning is Winning!!! NEXT TIME WEAR NEOPRENE FISHING GLOVES!! Keep your hands TOTALLY warm!! I spent many happy hours sitting by big driftwood bonfires with family & friends! The only thing missing is bottom bouncing & catching a big lingcod, and a pod of orcas going by your boat!

Ahhhh.... Dungeness... when I lived there back in the 60's and 70's, we would wait until minus level low tides and wade those flats inside the spit where you were placing those pots and we would pick up the crabs off the bottom.. this was done at night because the minus tides were in well after dark in December and Jan... we used a simple tool like a broom stick with a loop of copper at the end.. when you spotted a crab in the light from your lantern, you'd put your tool like you were trying to scoop him up and he'd do to that ring like he did to your thumb and just pick him up and shake him into a tub that we floated on the surface as we walkeed along... it was so cool... took about 30 to 40 minute of this to get out personal 10 crab limit... then back home and cook them!!!!

I love the PNW videos. Come visit us more often. Yeah, that’s the kind of crab pots we expect on the west coast. It’s crazy that you get so few rock crab after a week soak. If we don’t have full pots after an overnight, we’re moving. Also, if you find yourself over here again and it’s possible, check out Oregon. They have better fishing and crabbing regulations.

I wonder how many pounds of Salmon, the girls flew home to Fla. You had a great view of Mount Rainier from their roof. You could understand why Seattle would be in real trouble if it blew like mount Helan.

Also, you got lucky with the shallow drops, depending on season, we've gone to the 130s-140s near Everett! (we had a Scotty pot hauler plugged into a downrigger!) So ANyway you're officially official, WITHOUT splitting your thumbnail!
